We create "magazine ads" for the hell of it. Now: Two Out Rally

wat!?? at the topic. I was under the impression that the thread was about games that are already out and someone has an impression on how it plays to actually market it...

Well the original idea was for pretty much any game or system or accessory or whatever. Good games, bad games, failure systems, favorite systems, the whole thing. It quickly became recent releases.

Anyway, Epic Mickey shouldn't be hard to at least form a concept around. We know the backstory and Mickey's so iconic that you can do a ton of things with his ears/top of the head. And that's not even getting into paper and ink.

Haven't done one in a while. Here's my contribution for EM.

I am an English major, and I even find it annoying when people correct "your" and "you're" on these advertisements...that will never be published. Instead of saying how FREAKING COOL THAT AD is, we choose to focus on something like that. Bleh.

Thanks! :D I edited the grammar errors. I kind of rushed through the tag line.

Lol, 3 words after another are wrong, and they are all notorious grammar mistakes. There's nothing wrong with pointing them out. It's not meant as an insult to the person making the mistakes, it's supposed to help him. And it doesn't take anything away from the ad's awesomeness.

I'm not a native English speaker, and I'm happy when people point it out when I make mistakes.

Considering that this is the best thread I've ever seen on GAF, I'm always disappointed to see how few people are submitting entries at this point.

I was thinking maybe you could collaborate with the guy that gives stuff away for free and have him give some of the better stuff away as prizes to the best of each round?

I dunno. I want this thread to be reinvigorated.

Good job man. I'm embarrassed to ask this but when is "your" used? I know you're is used for you are but your...

"Your" is possessive. As in "you" own it.

"That dog belongs to you."
"That is your dog."
"That dog is yours."

Or think of it like this:

That is you're dog = That is you are dog.

Obviously that doesn't make sense, so whenever it doesn't make sense, use "your" instead.

Easy way to think about it: You'll only use "you're" when you could replace it with "you are".

For instance: "You're going to leave tomorrow" could also be written, "You are going to leave tomorrow".

edit: beaten. Oh well. :P

I like your first one the best. I think the key to these is really playing up the whole animation/drawn angle. Of course, people like xintin have their style, apply it to anything, and still make it look beautiful and interesting.

mmmh, I prefer change the tagline instead, I want to express that Mickey is more "animal" now, more instinctive, this "bad" side is out because his animal nature... I can´t sumarize all that in a short tagline =P

Any idea?

Excuse the sloppiness of this, I made it earlier when I didn't have much time. May go back to it at some point...

And of course the fact that the castle door looks like Mickey's eye is completely and uteerly intentional.

Now you can't unsee it...

EDIT: Updated with Wii logo.

That's a pretty hefty message to send with that visual and text combo. I really didn't get that's what you were going for. And as far as the game goes, the bad side isn't out due to his animal nature.

Yeah I thought that too, that mouse image doesn't help too much becuase it's perceived more like a tame animal.

What I mean animal in the sense it's more rough character compared to the good Mickey, I don't saying that Mickey is a bad guy, just he's allowed to make bad things now.

Firestorm just linked me this: http://www.teamfortress.com/propaganda/submit.php

Current ads should be more like propaganda posters and very little like ads. Kinda goes against what this thread was about but I think we can write this one off as a sort of teaser for something big.

We've already done TF2, but I think this is different enough. Plus you get a chance to enter an actual contest. Remember, it's specifically for team blu (soldiers) or team red (demos).

Credit for this part of the thread goes to Firestorm.

In the light of the current bombing of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, I thought it´d be a great idea to revive this topic and initiate a Shattered Memories-themed week (or whatever timeframe). It´s so incredibly sad to see the game sell that bad, so maybe those who already played it (or have good ideas for ads) could change that a bit :D

I sat out that TF2 one out of lack of interest.

I'd be up for many more games in the future though. FFXIII, Mass Effect 2, Mario Galaxy 2, Persona 3 Portable, Mega Man 10, Project Needlemouse... lots of potential for future games!

Would love to see GAF do a project needlemouse teaser :D

I've only looked in this topic briefly before, but now that Android18a and others are showing some good stuff I should take a propaganda at this next one.

Noooo, what's wrong with, from time to time, have a bit of a reboot

I don't like endings mostly

I know I haven't been contributing for a while, but please - unless you got bored because of the few contributions or too busy to manage it - don't end this thread. Having it pop up from time to time would be really nice, it's one of the threads I love most on GAF.
That said, I'd be really honored (and I think the same would be for everyone else working on Dudebro) if you wanted to choose it as the next assignment (or a later one, once we have more art assets to share).
If the authors agree, we might use some of the ads they make to actually advertise the game (of course we'd contact them beforehand to ask for permission) once the release date gets closer.

What about a challenge with GT5 ads? :lol
I know, street date is still TBC, but maybe this can be useful (and funny too) in order to make greater ads... :D

The plan was this: do Dudebro and have it be the last one. Then this thread could stick around for people who wanted to do free-for-all stuff. On the year anniversary, I was thinking of starting a new thread with new rules for 2010. Maybe just have it be poster work or box arts since lots of people were doing that more than advertisements at the end anyway.

I see. It would be excellent then :)
