Web version of Miiverse coming in April/May?

hE20iqy.jpg

according to some blog(esuteru), this is a pic of the attendance for Nintendo's Miiverse panel at GDC ....

Is it usual to have so few?

Man, to take the time in preparing and organising a session and to see a turn out like that would be so disheartening.

Hm... We know Animal Crossing: New Leaf is going to have a new feature in the North American and European versions, and Nintendo has talked about the potential of Animal Crossing with Miiverse support... What if the new feature in New Leaf is Miiverse support, and Miiverse is coming to the 3DS before June 9th?

I've been to a similar conference. With many conferences running at the same time and free snacks outside, it's very possible that people prefer to go to the other conference or just step out of the room and build some network.

Nintendo is planning updates to Miiverse functionality, including the ability to more deeply integrate the social network with Wii U games.

The Miiverse API will be updated in a future version of the Wii U Software Development Kit to include features to improve interactions within games, producer Kiyoshi Mizuki revealed in his GDC talk. In future updates, more Miiverse functions will be available from within games. Players will be able to send and receive comments, follow users from within a game as well as viewing follower lists, and see lists of people who Yeah'd their posts.

Miiverse posts will gain the ability to launch games at a specific point from a link in Miiverse. For instance, posts from within levels in New Super Mario Bros. U are tagged with the in-game locations. In the future, players could launch a level directly from a corresponding Miiverse comment. Additionally, the Miiverse can be coupled with an online datastore, which could perform even more advanced functions.

User communities are already available, but no game makes use of the feature yet. User communities on Miiverse work similarly to those in Mario Kart 7. Users who have a community code can join a limited-access community only available to those who own a game and enter the code. Nintendo hopes that restricting interaction to a known group of people will allow people to be more comfortable sharing online. The feature can be used to organize and hold tournaments. Wii Fit U will be the first title to incorporate the feature. Within the Wii Fit U user communities, players will be able to share training records and activity logs with the hope that others they know will encourage them to stick with and enjoy fitness activities.

Mizuki sees the potential to link stage editors to Miiverse, allowing users to create and direct an entire game from Miiverse. He envisions a game where interactions aren't fixed, but people across the world bring the game to life. However, he is not working on such a game since his duties involve providing developer support for the Nintendo Network.

Nintendo is also listening to developer requests on how they might extend the Miiverse API to include more benefits.

That's far more attention than the Miiverse deserves. Some of 'em must have wandered in there by accident.
Sarcasm?

New miiverse features look great. User communities in particular, if we can have MK7 communities in all games = win.

Hell no. I really don't 'get' Miiverse. It's like some nightmarish Nintendo echo-chamber for people either saying 'I love this game!' or 'this level is hard!'. I can't understand what people are getting out of it at all.

The Miiverse thing could become really interesting with some good ideas.

Doubt that the 3DS has NNID integrated. Probably just a separated app for Miiverse that uses the browser and nothing else.

Do you also believe twitter is only made of posts such as "I had a great breakfast this morning"?

Your description of Miiverse is way too narrow. Miiverse is first and foremost about discussions and art.

Also, this:
Just seeing a few message pop up when playing Nintendoland or NSMBU really adds to the experience and this is just the beginning.

At last, massive & direct relationship with devs/studios already got us Rayman 2nd demo and 60htz support for PAL VC games.

Miiverse functionality in game is such a great feature. Just seeing a few message pop up when playing Nintendoland or NSMBU really adds to the experience and this is just the beginning. Can't wait to see what else can be brought to the table.

Would be interesting if they patched in some of those Mario ideas. They already released one patch recently for Miiverse functionality improvements.

You guys are nuts, mobile version should come first. 3DS doesn't come with 3G, cellphone miiverse wouldn't depend on your access to Starbucks.

For me - in the limited time I've spent with it so far - it's about being able to share my experience of a game (whether that's screens, comments, sketches, requests for help or whatever) quickly and directly with a group of people who are playing the same game. I don't have to log in to NeoGAF and track down an OT, or go to another forum. It's all about the particular game I'm involved in.

It's not perfect, but it certainly doesn't seem to me to be a "nightmarish Nintendo echo-chamber".

EDIT:

Oh, and that "user has played this game" checkbox? Fantastic.

Yeah and besides these are two different functions. Smartphone Miiverse will allow you to view Miiverse but it doesn't have games that would utilize it (
at least not until Nintendo goes iOS lol
.) 3DS Miiverse will (at least this is how I understood it) include games that support Miiverse. That takes longer to make.

yep you sound like you havent even looked at the thing but eh your level of dislike twards nintendo is allmost at joke character

Miiverse is very interesting. I wish we had something like it on 360/PS3(maybe 4)
Not just from gaffers, but developers comments and some of the art is pretty amazing. I do wish the 3ds was up and running first, but I understand the reasons.

This is excellent. They can create tournaments where players can be taken to the right stage instantly, or even link to secret levels that aren't normally unlockable within the game. Imagine a Pokémon game where Nintendo release a link on Miiverse that gets you to a new area to catch a 'mon.

Have you used it for longer than 5 minutes? Or used it at all? Because you're making it sound like you haven't.

It's basically where all social and messaging activity occurs. Would you say you don't 'get' messaging on the PS360? Or that you don't get Twitter or Facebook?

This stuff will definitely improve games

Better communication without suspending the game

GAF communities and other communities, privately match-making with one another

This one should make Miiverse broadcasted game-invites possible

I'm really not seeing that at all from my time with the service so far. It's full of extremely inane babbling and very little of substance. There is the occasional cool picture though.

The NSMBU integration I found extremely grating. It definitely didn't add to the experience for me, it made me feel like I was sitting in a classroom listening to kids talking about games. I think they ought to 'zone' it out better so that I only get posts from people more like me.

Upcoming User Communities feature means Neogaf on miiverse. And that is awesome.
Yeah, I definitely don't get it. A Neogaf limited to people with a Wii-U and all neat text replaced with hand-written scrawls really doesn't sound like a good thing.

Have you used it for longer than 5 minutes? Or used it at all? Because you're making it sound like you haven't.
I've 'used' it, in that I've read some of the babble on there. I haven't felt compelled to post anything personally because I have GAF for that sort of thing.

If it was limited to shallow chatter specific to Nintendo games, I'd ignore all of those services. As of yet, I haven't found the 'deeper' levels of Miiverse that you two seem to have.

it'd be a very quiet place then dave ;)

That's what the Follows / Friends lists and Activity Feed are for. They're not going to add a filter for 'People like SmokyDave' :p

Plus, you spend time on GAF talking to people from GAF -- I assume there's some like mindedness or entertainment value in that for you -- now you'll be able to do things like that for specific games. You won't have to entertain so much of the 'inane babble' if you don't want to.

It really shouldn't be that difficult to add an 'Adults Only' area. I know it sounds cranky but seeing a load of childish scrawls in my dashboard and in my games doesn't put a smile on my face, it makes me feel like a grownup on a play-park roundabout. Out of place.

oi whats wrong with roundabouts

You are the only one to blame if you don't follow interesting people, don't you think?

Do you not get 360/PS3 voice chat because of 13 year-old white supremacists?
Ignoring the fact that I use party chat for that exact reason, I can't see how there is any similarity there whatsoever.

I'm going to use the Miiverse a lot more over the next few days before continuing this conversation because I must be missing an awful lot so far.

But how would you ensure such a filter would even work? Even if there was a section where only users past a certain age would be allowed to post, it wouldn't necessarily stop the childish stuff from happening. In my many years of Message Board experience, I've ran into posters in the 14-17 year range that make much more mature posts than people who claim to be in their 30s.

I've talked with developers and got assistance from players. Sounds pretty good really. In fact I've had more discussions with a developer of a game there than I have somewhere like NeoGAF.

My guess is this is before it started. The panelists are all standing, the projector is just playing the standard Wii U warawara plaza, and everyone in the audience is looking at their phones. I'm not saying more people went, but at least at this second the panel hasn't started.

Miiverse is like tumblr on my console. A good lot of the people are posting things I will never care about but if you just look around you find interesting people doing interesting things.

This was my point, very misleading photo either way.

How do I find interesting people to follow?
Now that interesting people like game developers can add the company they work for above their profile pic, it would be good if Nintendo allowed us to click on that company to bring up a profile page for the company complete with employees on Miiverse.

For example, I follow Jools Watsham. Let's say someone else at Renegade Kid is on Miiverse. I click 'Renegade Kid' above Jools' pic, takes me to a RK page with company info, links to their games on eShop and the games' communities and a list of employee Miiverse profiles.

Good idea? Would be a great way to find interesting people to follow.
