Went for it, bought an Xbox One.

I just got my XBONE in July (first Xbox ever for me), and along with everyone else's suggestions i would highly recommend State of Decay. I'm very excited for the next one and I thoroughly enjoyed it even though zombies aren't exactly the zeitgeist anymore.

Nice, I almost pulled the plug on one this past weekend. I'll get one eventually just waiting for more details on the NX. For some reason that will let me know if I should get an X1S or wait for the Scorpio.

Killer Instinct.

It's F2P, so there's no reason not to try it, and Jago is going to be permanently free on Sept 20 when the single player Shadows Lords mode launches.

Even if you're not into fighters normally, you should give it a try.

Ori and the Blind Forest, Sunset Overdrive, and Rare Replay should be on your purchase list. I'll second that you should go with the female voice for SO.

You can set your own background if it hasn't been mentioned. Any jpg/png under 3.5MB will work. Also if you open your OneDrive (PC or browser) folder, create a Music folder, add your songs in there, then open Groove on the Xbox, go to Collection, and you can use that for background music.

I have Ori for PC and just started. It already seems like the best shit ever... Also, Inside looks really good and seems to be a mist play. I think Sunset Overdrive and EA Access are good buys. I don't even care much for Halo and I'd still buy Halo MCC, lol. Way too good of a deal.

Thanks everyone for all the recommendations. I've got a lot of stuff to look into!

That's actually really cool. Totally wasted on me though, I never listen to music when I'm gaming and never use my consoles for anything but. And my One is already set to high contrast display, just like my PS4. Thanks for the info though!

When you say shooter do you mean FPS or bullet hell? If you mean bullet hell Raiden V and Ikaruga on 360 BC.

FPS. It's not my favourite genre, but I do find it fun from time to time.

Any game that's anything like Halo, basically.

Out of curiosity: why is it so important? Is the performance vastly better?

Yes, vastly.

If we were to split the game into two parallel dimensions where in each the game either had only the male actor or the female actor, I'm convinced that the dimension with the female actor has the game with a metacritic score about 7 higher than the male dimension.

Well it looks like everything else I was going to say is already mentioned. It's not exclusive but I really enjoyed Wolfenstein on the XBO. It was a mixture of Half-Life, BioShock and Call of Duty.

Looks like you've gotten plenty of games recommendations. As for the Elite controller, OP:

What helped me get used to four paddles quickly is to assign them sort of by "functions" not buttons (This is a brain thing).

What I mean is that for every game that allows sprint, I map to upper left, jump to lower right, melee to lower left. For games where this isn't possible I just fill those paddles with something else and keep that in mind for that game.
I did this for a bunch of games, then switched between them all and got used to them and I think it really helped me a lot in getting used to using four paddles. I didn't want to just get used to two to have to relearn and get used to four later on.

You really don't have to mess with the trigger sensitivities unless you turn on trigger locks (and that's not even necessary for every game). If you do turn them on and have problems though, adjust the second number in each set to... I dunno, I do about half and they work correctly with the trigger locks on then.

Thanks for the advice. I like the idea of thinking about a 'function' for each paddle, instead of just assigning a button. That's interesting and I think I'll give it a shot as well. Could be good for muscle memory.

Whatever works in the end, I'll definitely be going with all 4 paddles from the start. I think sink or swim usually works out best :-)

Ah yep
Well Halo 5 is really good, arguably the best fun I've had with a MP FPS in years. But if you aren't going to get Gold then you're missing out on the best part of the game. Single player is okay but the multiplayer is where that game shines.

MCC is a good alternative, it also had split screen.

Ori and the blind forest
sunset overdrive
Dead Rising 3 and 4( 4 coming soon)
Halo MCC and Halo 5
Forza Horizon 3( coming this month )

these are a must buy for any xbox one owner

do NOT buy Ryse and Quantum flop, and i highly recommend not pre-ordering Gears 4 because from the looks of it, it seems to be a huge flop, so i suggest you wait for the reviews of Gears 4

Ignore this guy, QB is a good game, and well. he's trying to predict GEARS4 and offer it as advice, which should alarm all.

Don't listen to this. Both Ryse and Quantum Break are excellent games. Ryse goes on sale quite often so you should be able to get it pretty cheap.

I'm interested in getting Ryse at some point. It doesn't look like it would be a mind-blowing experience, but it's a cool setting and I think it'd be fun. It's one I'd grab on a deal.

How did Quantum Break turn out in the end? Is it kind of like a David Cage game (which wouldn't scare me off, I don't hate the guy like a lot of people do)?

Welcome! Exclusives worth playing:

Fighting: Killer Instinct
Action: Gears Of War (all of them)
Racing: Forza Motorsport 6, Forza Horizon 2 & 3

there are quite a lot of decent games on game preview

Elite
Slime Rancher
Prison Architect
We happy few

Also plenty of indie games of late, some of which are exclusive

D4
Party Hard
Super hot
Dangerous Golf
Kingdom New lands
Lovers in a Dangerous Space time
Kerbel Space Program
Plague Inc evolved

Plus of course lots of games on BC that you might have misssed last gen.
Nice thing about the BC games is that they often look better than you expect, they often perform better, but you have the benefit of all the next gen features with them, screenshots, videos, streaming etc

Quantum Break is story driven and graphically beautiful but it's not like a David Cage game. QTE are not a massive part of the game.

God of War is my favorite hack and slash series and the new God of war is exactly what i wanted, i wanted them to change the combat that they used the exact same one for 6 games, it's my most anticipated game of 2017

Gears 4 however looks and plays exactly like Gears 1(2006)

believe me i know a flop game when i see one, for more recent example, Empty man's sky, everyone got all excited and i knew it's gonna be a huge flop

So would you call yourself the nostradamus of video games?

Quantum Break is an very a narrative driven game ala Uncharted. It has a complimentary TV series with it that shows he actions of a few of the games supporting characters, this clocks in at about 5 hours of watching.
It's an action adventure with some third person shooter elements.
It looks incredible and lots of people did a 2nd play through for the alternate TV scenes.

If you like Sci Fi films and Tv then I would definately give it a play. I like David Cage': games but it's nothing like that.

Lolwut? Gears 4 looks spectacular.

I was thinking about grabbing one on my lunch break today, actually. Is it worth it to upgrade to the S at the moment? The only bundle for the S I see at Gamestop is the Halo Collection, but I'm kinda more partial to the Gears remaster; which is the base model.

Max and Curse of the Brotherhood
Quantum Break
Inside
Sunset Overdrive
Forza Horizon 2
All the Halos
D4
Crimson Dragon (The game is not very good due some stupid design decisions but it needs to sell so we get Crimson Dragon Saga)
Ori
Kalimba
Rise of Tomb Raider
PvZ
State of Decay Year one Edition
DR3
Magic the Gathering 2015

That list will get you going for a few months

Yeah, ignore that OP. Quantum Break is actually fun, but short. Not worth $60, maybe $30. Also Ryse is not bad, it's just not innovative is all. I would rent it through gamefly or buy for $10 or less.

Any of the forza games, I'd pick up Forza Horizon on BC since its free with GWG this month, then see if Forza 5 or 6 go on sale and get it at a steep discount. Generally I find I prefer the horizon style of games over circuit style of the main forza series, but thats your own personal preference thing.

RDR on BC for sure, fantastic game and the rumors of a remaster constantly come and go but might as well play it.

You can get super cheap Halo MCC and Halo 5 keys from various places, I think I paid $10 for each. They are in so many bundles so tons of digital keys floating around. Same may be true for the gears remaster. QB and Ryse are ok, definitely not worth anywhere near $60 closer to $10-20 each. Pretty easy to 100%.

Have fun, I have the elite console and controller as well and its a beast. Its too bad they haven't put out a S version of it.

I think it's only really worth it if you have/are going to get a 4K TV, or you want a smaller console. Unless there are other benefits I'm unaware of.

I decided to embrace the fact that, outside of paying the bills and keeping a roof over my family's heads, gaming is pretty much the only thing I ever spend my money on these days. I love this hobby. So now I'm the proud owner of an Elite 1TB Xbox One (I got a good deal).

There are games that I'm looking forward to, like Scalebound, Crackdown and ReCore, and I can't wait to make my way through the whole Halo story again, from the beginning right up to the new 343 titles (which I haven't played or even really seen anything about). I'm excited about backwards compatibility, I bought a few digital titles on my 360 and they're all there waiting for me. But I can't deny that even though I'd been thinking about buying a One for a while, the news last week that I'll not be able to play Bethesda games on my PS4 with mods was probably the final nudge that made me go for it. Skyrim is one of my favourite games of all time, and now I can get the remaster and play around with the endless possibilities of mods to my heart's content. That feels good.

Anyway, to give this thread some kind of point I'll ask a couple of questions.

Are there any hidden gems, only available on Xbox, that anyone would recommend? I'm into adventures, RPGs, platformers, shooters, walking sims...

And does anyone have any tips for getting started with this Elite controller? I've never used anything like it before, all I know is the thing feels bloody awesome to hold. I see there are options for remapping buttons, messing with dead-zones and adjusting trigger sensitivity and so on...Does anyone have any beginners tips?

Thanks in advance for any replies!

Outside of it being 100 should got an Xbox one S

Quieter, smaller, UHD built in, better controller longer range, HDR, better frame rates

Ori was so-so for me. Graphically probably the most amazing 2D game I've ever scene, but Castlevania SOTN/Super Metroid it is not. It's more about getting from place to place. The combat is secondary and not that good. Don't recall it having any bosses either.
