What about worst video game music?

I remember being pretty pissed off at the 'cave ambience' bullshit they pulled in every dungeon in Grandia games. There's some great music in those games, but its hard to in sound mind call the soundtracks good overall.

That atrocious boss music from Blue Dragon is definitely a contender.

The thing about it is... it's so bad, it's awesome. Too awesome to be counted as one of the worse, as there are genuinely bad mind-numbing tracks in some games.

Anything by Motoi Sakuraba.

Anything? Really? including all his pre-Tales stuff?

I'm usually not bothered by music that's compositionally bad as music that's stupidly short (although it can always be both!).

GD Leen was one of the first RPGs on the SNES, based on an earlier game for PC-88 or something. It has three battle themes.

The normal battle theme is 30 seconds, unfortunately not that unusual in those days.
The boss battle theme is about the same. Neither theme is very good.
But the final boss theme is an 11-second loop.

For some reason, when they produced an OST for the SFC version, they made the last boss theme loop for two and a half minutes.

Why would you do that? Why?

with the exception of the biostage, i'd have to agree. while i love gradius v, the music doesn't suit it.

You know something else about this? Haven't read further down and maybe someone pointed it out already, but Hitoshi Sakimoto did the soundtrack, and I agree it's mindblowingly boring, which is crazy considering how up on his junk I am for the Radiant Silvergun and Vagrant Story soundtracks.

Gradius 2/3/4 have amazing music (not so much a fan of part one) and this just didn't capture the same spirit. Sad really, combined 2 of my favorite things and failed miserably.

actually, "IMPREGNABLE FORTRESS" is about as Konami as you can get. Listen to it and then listen to "Theme of Solid Snake".

It's nice to hear Sakimoto break out of the usual style...

Sure, I hear that - it is very metal gear-esque in the instrumentation. I'm not exactly out of my seat dancing though!

It is cool to hear H.S. do different genres, though, you're right about that.

Oh and before I totally disown the Gradius V soundtrack, I really like "Intermezzo" - that's all.

You know that in the Atari and NES generations, there was game music that literally consisted of a 2 seconds tone relooping over and over and over again? Almost none of the stuff her could honestly qualify as 'worst' music in any sense of the word.
That's what I was gonna say. This particular one has a ~15 second tune but is horrible nonetheless. (Note how the rhythm stumbles whenever you switch screens.)

I'd like to place a vote for Jak and Daxter. Such a beautiful game brought down by its absolutely dreadful soundtrack. It was so boring and uninpsired to the point where it prevented me from wanting to continue playing.

I'm also going to add Zelda Wind Waker to that list and agree with the poster who mentioned the Tales of series (excluding Legendia, which features one of the BEST soundtracks I've ever heard, oddly enough).

Prince of Persia - Warrior Within

pretty much anything in there.
Oh, come on, there was some great music in there. Yes, many of the main battle themes were annoying Godsmack rip-offs, but the music used during exploration was quite atmospheric and well done.

Licensed music. I think DMC4 also had it. God awful.
I don't think it did. They simply used the same awful vocal song for virtually every battle. Terrible terrible choice. Some of the music outside of battle was decent, however.

I don't want to mention my opinion on the genre, but the application was distracting to the point where i had to mute it.

Tales of Vesperia has decent music but theres one track that plays every now and then when characters are joking or just being silly that drives me fucking crazy. If anyone has played the demo they know what i'm talking about.

Besides that I vote DMC4 for worst overall that i've heard.

Zoo Keeper on DS. The same tiny (terrible) tune over and over and over and over again.

Genuine reason to not play an otherwise pretty decent game.

San Francisco Rush 64. You'll want to put a bullet in your brain, but you can't stop playing because the game is 5 kinds of amazing.

Oh man, why didn't I think of it earlier, from long ago, I've always absolutely despised ROLLING STARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT from Daytona USA. It's worse than fingernails on a chalkboard to me.

Not all short music is bad. Listen to Shin Megami Tensei 2's soundtrack, almost every song is under 30 seconds, but good.
