What all character (or general) parallels are there between Marvel and DC?

Superman = Cap
Batman = Iron Man
Wonder Woman = Thor

That's how I always looked at the Trinity from each side. It's not 1:1 - Supes is far more powerful than Cap, Bats and Tony are different in just about as many ways as they are similar, etc. - but as far what each character represents on their respective team, I think it shakes out like that.

This makes a lot of sense.

Sodlier/Hero/Leader- Superman/Cap
Playboy/philanthropist/Billionare/super intelligent/alternate identity crime fighter - Batman/Ironman
Fantasy style/warrior - Wonder Women/Thor

Of course they are very different too, but they have similarities that link them.

Is there a copycat for Gambit, Cyclops and Nightwing?

Nightwing's would be Midnight. Moon Knight's ex sidekick

My favorite lift is the original Shi'ar Imperial Guard, who Claremont created as 1:1 rip offs of the Legion of Superheroes.

Edit: Should have known Slayven would beat me to it.

No not at all, Sentry is definitely boring. I love the other three.

I like that Sabertooth pic. He's up there with Ultron as my favourite solo Villians.

Man I hate how they can't figure out how to write The Sentry, his concept can make for a very compelling and tragic character.

He isn't someone that should stick around though, he needs to be contained in one long "event" series.

Holy shit. That is amazing. I mean, that one Shi'ar guy has Ultra Boys symbol for all intents and purposes.

I haven't read anything with junior Blue Beetle but Jaime Reyes seems to me like a Peter Parker type.

Also there was an arc of Superman/Batman where they beat up the Avengers. The arc was called Vengeance (the title just occured to me this morning, heh).

Blue Beetle has more in common with Dark Hawk.

And...what happens next?

From memory, supes helps anyway, and with the help of an engineer gets power working in part of the city. Criminals attack trying to get a monopoly or something and supes fights them off, but when he comes back people are going to the engineer begging for power like he's a don or something. Superman asks what the hell he's doing, the engineer replies helplessly something like "what can I do?".

Supes has no answer because that's the mindset of the gothamites at that point. Even though the engineer is a good guy, they're still paying fealty to him because that's how they understand the world to be, and they stick with what they know.

Bats knew this which is the point of that smug smile.

But at the end of the day, batman has always proved far more effective at helpting gotham as bruce wayne then as batman. With his brain, wayne enterprise resources, and superman willing to drop everything and help out, he could have ended no mans land in months.

but he's a douche who wants to be a vigilante all the time, so it dragged on until Lex Luthor decided to do something about it

Pete Wisdom

Huh. I never would've made that connection. What makes you say that...? He's much more capable in a fight and (I could be mistaken here) not so much of a manipulative, self-centred shit who gets by on wits and a badass rep.

EDIT: Wisdom isn't my area of expertise, clearly :)

He has all kinds of connections earhtly and otherwise

I thought his friend was the genius, it was his boombaby power or something? Or was that just in the tv series?
Static is a genius in comics, but he did bring his friend from the cartoon in later.

The machine he's attached to has a vocal processor or something, I think.
No, it just pushes air through his voice box and mouth.

Does Marvel have a Firestorm knock-off?

I've always felt that character was pretty original. I mean, obviously you have people like Element Woman who can do similar things, but the way the power is generated always seemed unique.

Darren Rawling's "Little Friends"

They are little friends so they wouldn't fight :p

Holy shit that reminds me, when I was little there used to be these Marvel VS. DC trading cards I collected. A few of those are the same matchups. Dr. Polaris VS. Magneto along with flash vs. Quicksilver for a couple examples.
I also remember the cards had Hulk VS. Superman, Spider-Man vs Superboy (D&R of Supes era), and the Arcade vs. The Riddler
Not to mention countless others that I cant recall atm. I'm gonna go dig through my garage in search of my binder :p

If you mean his power? You got Molecule Man and Sersi. who honestly out class him, but over all he feats in that Spiderman kid learning what it takes to be a hero mold.

Captain Marvel and Rick Jones

Even if he lost it he would win. Superman is still mortal, he's just very difficult to kill. The Sentry has "died" a handful of times but usually he just manifests elsewhere and The Void pops up to put a world of hurt on some people.

For the most part yes. Deadpool definitely doesn't lose out to Deathstroke. The only way you can really "beat" Deadpool is to just contain him e.g. cutting his head off and sealing his head and body seperately. Deathstroke can regenerate, but nowhere near as fast or efficiently as Deadpool can.

Deadpool once regenerated his arm when it was cut off and the arm regenerated another body

The Squadron Supreme is The Justice League
Deadpool is Deathstroke
FF4 are partially the Challengers of the Unknown
Xmen have similarities to Doom Patrol
Aquaman is Namor ...
Shi'ar Imperial Guard is the Legion of Superheroes
Hyperion is Superman
Thanos is based on Metron and Darkseid(size)
Swamp Thing is Man Thing (creators were roomates)
Wonder Woman / Superman is/are rebooted to receive Captain Marvels powers post lawsuit
Black Cat is Cat Woman
power wise Quasar is similar to the GL with the constructs and stuff
Amazing Man is the Absorbing Man and his name Will Everett is tribute to Bill Everett the golden age amazing man creator back at Charlton Comics)
