Max Payne 3 deserves a re-release on current Gen.
The bolded captures my point perfectly and is exactly why I can't get behind any of the the comparisons to John Woo style shooters that people are sharing (Max Payne and the like -- as excellent as they are).
Aiming absolutely cannot be a mechanic in a John Wick video game because then it means you could fail at it.
That's a few dislocated vertebrae right there.

But he does miss shots.
Twice actually, against the same person, in the same movie.
So while I can follow that logic when it comes to scores of nameless henchman, it does not hold up when its someone a little more experienced then that.
I don't think a proper John Wick game could be a third person shooter.
John Wick doesn't aim. His reflexes and muscle memory are so superior, that lining up his aim and acquiring targets is not something he needs to think about and thus something the player should have to think about. Crowd control is the challenge John Wick faces so it should be the challenge the player faces. Reacting to the existence of an enemy threat is what you should have to worry about, not lining up a shot. If John sees them, they're shot. (Unless they're another assassin.)
I say again, it would have to play like an evolution of the Arkham combat. I just don't think there is a game like that yet.
The mark and kill feature (or whatever it's called) in Splinter Cell Blacklist.

Arkham games make you as good as Batman by not being a combo-heavy brawler like every other Batman game. It's still a challenge, more about rhythm and flow than fighting prowessSaying "aiming doesn't work in a John Wick game because he doesn't miss" is missing the point
By that logic you can't have a game because you personally aren't John Wick, there would be failstates and John Wick doesn't fail.
Take the RE6 combat. Instead of bullet sponge zombie enemies you kill with one headshot. You have melee stamina and quickshots still, but quickshots are replaced with headshots. Body shots can stun and lead to melee executions/takedowns leading to more headshots. You still have counters for melee, but implement counters for firearms too
In theory you create a game system where you are constantly maintaining momentum between shooting and executions like DOOM 2016 but with a stylish 3rd person perspective.
By all means add systems to emphasize headshots and give the player an advantage, but at a certain point it is still a game and if you make a game where you are just automatically as good as John Wick it wouldn't be a challenge. Give the player the tools and make it so that by the end of the game you are as good as Wick himself
Arkham games aren't combo heavy brawlers?Arkham games make you as good as Batman by not being a combo-heavy brawler like every other Batman game. It's still a challenge, more about rhythm and flow than fighting prowess
So why does a John Wick game have to let you shoot and aim?
No. By combo-heavy, I mean button combinations. Compare the Arkham games to Rise of Sin TzuArkham games aren't combo heavy brawlers?
Just because they let you fly around and use gadgets doesn't change the core combat scenarios
John Wick doesn't swoop into a circle of thugs and dance around them, he lurks in the shadows and headshots them
Yes please. With loading times greatly reduced so you can skip the cutscenes.Max Payne 3 deserves a re-release on current Gen.
Oni. Nobody really remembers it but it was a real gem of a game. Mixed martial arts and guns to a great combination.
There's also the Enter the Matrix and Path of Neo licensed Matrix games.
And at a stretch, without much physical combat, the Max Payne series.
Still though, the feeling of switching between weapons on the fly as you roll is the closest thing you're going to get to feeling like JW. Especially since Payne holds two handed weapons with his other hand when you're shooting with a handgun.
