What are the best end credits in a game?

Best ending credits that I've seen so far is definitely InFamous 2's.

I love the visual style with its heavy sepia style look and images splashed to one side. It kind of has that weathered look that I associated with New Marais. The tidbits of the story and spots of gameplay give me this sentimental feeling, especially when I pick the "blue" ending where
Cole dies (actually dies).

I'm also a big fan of the song that was chosen, Fade Away by The Black Heart Procession. Although I don't really listen to indie rock, I feel that the song was fitting, maybe for the same reasons why the visual style fits for me.
What gets me though is the start of the credits. The sudden flash of the game's title along with the beautiful solemn piano followed by the logo fading into the background struck me deeply.

Visually and audibly, the credits simply felt like a fitting send off for a long and legendary tale that I enjoyed for every second. I must've watched the credits at least a dozen times.

Final Fantasy 8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FffWazMVcOo

Hell its the best part of the game, you dont know what happen to Squall till the very end of the credits.
Yes ! I love these kinds of "Where are they now ?" credits/ending where you can see all your PCs, with whom you spent a considerable amount of time, what they become and what they do.

I also like Persona 3 and Persona 4's credits for the music.

The more recent example I loved is Guacamelee, and particularly the contrast between the (spoilers !) normal ending and the golden ending. I felt damn proud and damn good after watching it.

Okami
So beautiful. My favourite game of all time, and Ammy running with those animals with the recount of what happened in your journey was amazing. The instrumentation in that song is great. This game was really a labour of love by Clover, and it really shows. I heard that Hideki Kamiya's mother did the calligraphy for the ending.

All of the Pokemon games
I love how they all have medleys of memorable themes in each game. The newer credits scenes stand out the most, though. Pokemon is by far the most nostalgic thing in my life for me, and the familiarity that comes with the credits is amazing.

Chrono Trigger
Just a feel good game. It never drags on and always keeps you hooked. This is probably the only story focused game where I felt that there was no filler. The piano that comes in halfway through the song is so poignant. Here's that part I'm talking about. There couldn't be a better title to the ending theme - "To Far Away Times". Awesome.

Okami.
The credits sequence is already top notch by itself, but Reset on top of that? Jesus Christ.
As if the game wasn't good enough, it ended with a stunner of a credit roll.

Devil May Cry 3. Playing Devils Never Cry while you slaughter dozens of demons alongside Lady never gets old. What's cool is that you earn the secret ending if you kill 100 of them before the credits end.

Metal Gear Solid 3. Kojima knows how to end a game, man. This is right up there with The Best is Yet to Come, IMO.

Kingdom Hearts is definitely another one. The little scenes showing you, the music playing, and then Dearly Beloved waiting for you at the end? Perfect

Persona 4 also delivered at the end. I was sad to see the game end, it was like parting with good friends. That track playing while the train rolls down the track (at least that's the effect) was so good.

I know there are a ton I'm forgetting, but these immediately spring to mind when I think about great ending credits.

Wind Waker's finale music always hit me hard.

Also Majora's Mask's credits, if only for the reveal of the
Deku Scrub's identity...

I would say Ninja Gaiden original on the first Xbox.

You get to see all what you've been through from start to finish with one of the most heroic soundtrack ever. Then there's a last video showing ryu giving back the dragon eye to his dead friend and flies away with the birds.

That is fucking epic each time you beat the game.

Metroid Prime, simply for the fact that it has my favorite video game composition in all of gaming.

In more recent memory I liked Tomb Raider's for the fact it showed the design teams pictures. I wish more devs would do this as I like to see the faces behind the games.

And even more recently Pikmin 3 for being adorable

And of course many here that have already been mentioned like Okami, Madworld, and Ico.

Just top of my head? Super Mario Bros 2.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPXtir65p40

Remember when i borrowed it from my friend and played it through for the first time and when the end with Mario sleeping and you saw him dream and all the names of the monsters are listed with names.
My mind was blown apart from the graphics when Mario was breathing and snoring. Super Mario Bros 2 is still my favorite mario-game to this day.

Off-topic: I miss all those old games where you got a manual showing all the bad-guys and bosses with names and points for defeating them.

Silhouette Mirage's was nice on PS1, just because of all the cool, interactive sprite stuff going on.

Lots of people still don't know to this day that you can attack the silhouettes and mirages while the credits roll in the US version of the game. Since you get to control the boss character, you have access to most/all of his special attacks.

There's also a smash bros-like game as a secret for the US version.

Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is probably the best that I can think of. Seeing all the denizens of Hyrule and how your actions impacted them was great. And then the rotating Triforce and that music. . .It was sublime.

Yes! That was such a great finale for that game. Love seeing how people were doing and going about their lives after you restored peace.

Bayonetta had problems IMO, but its credits weren't one of them.

Bayonetta.

Bayonetta

...and Vanquish

I always loved how in movies or anime that they would give you a little bit more story during the credits.
Being able to play the game during the ending credits of a game gave me that same loving feeling.

More games (with great gameplay) should do this

Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask have some pretty hefty endings with great songs, but this one takes the cake.

A Link to the Past
From the moment you enter the light and the Triforce appears, all the way until the credits end. You get music that makes you feel heroic, and as if all your effort had meaning.

The dark world returning to normal, the lives of those you helped. Perfect

Link's Awakening
The impressive visuals of the much talked about Wind Fish, the notion that by leaving the dream world, means the end of everything and everyone you met. To the glimmer of hope as you find yourself stranded in the middle of the ocean, with nothing in sight.

Ocarina of Time
Seeing Ganon defeated, and being sealed away (the events only mentioned in ALttP, but never seen)

Whilst not as successful as the ending from ALttP, there is still a nice feeling seeing all the characters you came across living their lives in peace, and that awesome version of Princess Zelda's theme.

Not to mention the minor head-fu_k at the end with Young Link meeting Zelda, and holding the Triforce of Courage

Ocarina of Time's Ending on YouTube

Majora's Mask
One of those times where the ending reflects your level of involvement with the game itself. Depending on how many of the character's lives you became involved with, would determine the ending you get.

Two moments that get to you everytime are Anju and Kaefi's union, and the Deku Butler mourning his lost son.

Skyward Sword

As much as you may like or loathe Fi. Her farewell and fate will tug at your emotions.

Seeing the whole adventure from Zelda's perspective was a stroke of genius, and then the implications of the final moments. That being the moment that Hyrule was founded, and the arrival of the Triforce for the first time, on the world, and what troubles would arrive from it.

Skyward Sword's Ending on YouTube (its long, but a fitting length after completing the game)

Twilight Princess
Some nice ending shots, and filled with poignant moments. Ganondorf loosing the Triforce's grace. Zant's symbolism of breaking his neck. Ganondorf dieing on his feet. Midna's true form. THE MUSIC. Midna's goodbye, and the final shot of the Triforce symbol above the throne!

Killer 7
Absolutely rocking music, and brash end credits. The whole ending sequence to that game was a total mindfu_k which comes from much of Suda 51's work!

Ico
Whilst storywise there is not much to wrap up with the end to Ico, and what closure there is feels somewhat unexplained.

DAT MUSIC!!!!!!!

And so sad to see all the environments sinking into the ocean.

Ico's Ending on YouTube

Shadow of the Colossus
More thought provoking, and somewhat sad an Ending, than Ico. But without as an Iconic ending theme. You are left with a cold and haunting feeling when the ending of this game happens...

Metroid Prime
Whilst the animation in the background is cool, its the music that makes this credit sequence...

Super Mario 64
It may seem simple, but damn if this ending hasn't stuck with me. The simple peck on the nose, and the music...

Mario Kart 64
For the same reason as above, the music!!!

Super Mario World
Not sure about anyone else, but I came away from this game feeling a little sad. I'm sure its the music that did it, but it was nice seeing all the characters getting their curtain call, and seeing them all pass by.

Mystic Quest
I never enjoy playing RPGs, but I watched my brother play through this one, and I always remember liking the ending to this one. The music as the boat sails off, and the seagull sounds.

Metal Gear Solid/Twin Snakes - The Best Is Yet To Come
Last but not least...

That song, nothing more to be said...

Twin Snakes Ending on YouTube

Haven't seen it posted but ones that left the biggest impact on me were

Phantasy star online - on had some satisfying credits
red ring Rico was the new falz setting her spirit free at the end and following credits were a nice touch

Max Payne 2 - Late goodbye so good fit the tone of the game so good

Batman Arkham city -
joker singing only you was the cherry on top to the end of this game I loved it

Off topic
Does anyone know how to post YouTube videos from a mobile if you could tell me or pm I would appreciate it thanks in advance

The Zelda Games, except WindWaker, really nail this.

OOT-- those emotions

MM -- if you 100% this game, the credits are amazing (the wedding scene)

TP -- really nail home the fact that Link can never be the same again after the adventure

SS -- showing the story from Zelda's perspective was really awesome

wat

Link leaving home again and seeing the King of Red Lion's closed eyes was at least as emotional and TP's and SS's endings.

It was Wind Waker's end credits that let the whole thing down. The King drowning with the kingdom, and Ganondorf's impaling were great moments. The music was wonderful, but the credits were dull dull dull.

Probably because of loading times with the Disc etc, not allowing them to move from area to area instantly to show us different moments.
