What do you expect from Team Ico's next project?

I'm wondering what people are expecting/hoping for?

Let's try to keep the thread orderly so people bother to read it. Say what you expect/hope for on the following points:

Gameplay
Graphics/scope/environments
Controls/Camera

For example:

Gampleay: I'm hoping that they continue along the realistic acrobatic/movement of the past games. It adds to the immersion/credibility of the game and yet even tho movements are realistic they still gave us unique and incredible actions to perform within the confines of that realism (where most devs would say realism is too limited, "we're making a game not reality", fools!). I am hoping for more enemies and diversity of enemies as well, maybe you don't always have to eliminate the enemies you encounter, maybe you'll want to escape/hide from some of them (imagine a SotC-like enemy you suddenly encounter, and you try to hide from him behind rocks or by plunging into a lake, until you can make your escape unnoticed).

I think they'll try to include some sort of online component in the game too, so I wonder how that could go. Big open world a la SotC, co-op gameplay of up to 4 players (if you find no one you team up with AIs), with a village used as a hub maybe?:p But I would be cool with a single player game too.

Graphics/scope/environments: They did a lot of next-gen-like effects on PS2, at the cost of framerate, so this time I expect them to make great use of post effects and the likes without hurting the framerate too much. Hopefully a constant 30, and ideally 60 at 720p would be good to me. I'm also hoping that the environments are more dynamic, maybe you have a layer of "scripted" enemies positioned at specific places, and an additional layer of enemies that roam through the world at any time, to break the linearity, at least when not in a specific area like a dungeon.

Controls/Camera: Hoping for a camera that is a bit closer to the character. The controls were excellent IMO in SotC. Keeping the camera closer to the character would make it easier to handle the movement of the camera by linking it moreso with where the character is looking, which means slower camera movements but more in line with what the character is actually seeing (which would imply preferably not having enemies attack you from behind).

But really, their next game could end up going into so many different directions. I can't wait to see what they do.

I'm sure they will deliver.

Something of earthshattering beauty and grace that will transform our hearts and make grown men weep like small children.

For it to be unveiled at E3. Oh wait.

I don't know what to expect, I just want something that maintains the beauty and feeling of Ico and SotC.

I'm not expecting anything, just hoping that their third game is tied in some way to the first two. Can't wait to see what they've been doing for the past years.

I don't know what to expect, but I hope they have some nice use of the sixaxis. They did a wonderful job in Shadow of the Colossus control-wise, and holding the hand of the girl in Ico was pretty neat too.

Animations were already excellent in SotC, the horse is still absolutely unbelievable. When you call him from afar and he starts running towards you, and then slows down as he approaches, the whole motion is perfect. If they do have a griffin for the sequel, I can't wait to see how he'll move.

And funny anecdote; my father HATES video games, yet the only time he said something positive about them was when I played ICO and SotC, he said ICO looked interesting, and when he saw SotC (probably because he is a big fan of nature's strength, animals, etc.) he was really impressed by the horse, the movement of the character and the giant colossi.

SOTC is my best game ever but it's hard for anyone to make something that unique and new twice , i don't think Ueda can do it for third time , I think he will go to ICO style again and copy it but he will try to make everything bigger and with more emotional story .

I really can't believe he can do it three times in a row, no one can , so i will not setting myself up for disappointment , sorry thread of hype :( .

I really think that these guys can pull off an action/adventure game in the vain of Zelda and Okami. If in fact, I know they have the talent capacity to put Zelda to shame.

Their next game could easily be something completely different from Ico and SotC, so who knows. I would like to see some flying though. The Last Canyon/Gryffon rumors got me fucking pumped(Both probably fake, gryffon thing was never confirmed). Think I'll just go with:

i expect a game that is unique and beautiful in many ways and a videogame that is realy artistic and lets you sink into another world.

That is what is so difficult for me, working on next-gen games I always feel like we could be closer to SotC and ICO in presentation, and simplicity, as well as cohesiveness, but sadly few understand that.

EDIT: The griffin thing wasn't fake was it? And the chain going up in the air seems to imply some flying stuff IMO.

Was fake, yes. Plus that chain doesn't go up, it's lying on the ground. Look at it from this angle:

:lol funny, the game I'm working on; we were supposed to originally allow the player to ride a griffin later on in the game to travel quickly between different regions. But the idea was dropped early on. Then when I heard the next ICO game would have one I thought "OH SHIT!! Good thing we dropped the idea, people would have said we copied them!". :lol

EDIT: Ah I see it is lying on the ground, hmm. Maybe the game will be about Dormin, a prequel to SotC.

Didn't that rumor surface on GAF? Some guy said he had a friend working over at Sony or something. Pretty sure he got banned, but it was it really confirmed to be fake? I don't remember him confessing and saying "lol fooled yall".

I'm only asking this because riding a griffin would be so fucking awesome

Yeah from what I remember he was banned, then immediately un-banned after mods said "well, it's not fake :lol " as if they had received proof it was true.

I want the next Team ICO game to be completely non linear. SoTC almost had this, where you could explore anywhere you wanted, but you still had to kill the colossi in a set order.

Too bad they dropped the random encounters at some point. It would have been a lot more exciting; say roaming freely, then spotting a colossus in the distance - or being chased by one of the smaller ones.

Yeah I think they will do this if it can fit in the game. Like I said in the OP, imagine you are roaming around looking for an object, and suddenly this huge creature emerges and starts chasing you, but you don't have (or can't) kill it, you just hide from it, eventually sneak your way towards the object you wanted, and then make a dramatic run for it and escape:p Maybe later you can kill it.

This kind of non-linearity would be cool.

And great graphics without the horrible framerate à la SoTC.

It's actually really funny. I'm a stickler for framerate, and SotC's was not very good. For example, I just got Killzone on PS2 to learn the story and play through before the PS3 version, and I was debating if I even wanted to bother after playing through one level...

But with SotC, I didn't bat my eye once. It's just such a deep, epic game with beautiful environments and a story that actually makes you care about the drive of the protagonist...(if tyou have a heart, that is...)

So I feel like the PS3 should fix the framerate issues, BUT, I could probably still forgive it for a good enough game...

That would greatly improve replayability as well - something Ueda emphasized on recently by saying he's looking to make a game which can be played not just for weeks or months but years.

Sounds like online to me!!!:D

I would like online even tho usually I prefer linear games, because it would mean an ever lasting world set in the ICO universe! Day and night cycle + weather also help to break linearity.

I'd like it if they tried to implement online elements in a single-player game. PSN can be used not just as a hub for multiplayer gaming but also to make a game less linear. Say weather changes, random events and so on. Kind of you're playing Shadow of the Colossus and then you spot a new colossus in the sky - one you've never seen before and that it has just been added to the game. It's a dream, I know - but they must be doing something with online considering they were looking for people experienced in networking technologies.

And also Sony is not interested in funding single-player games much, they want to create communities through their games (and so does the whole industry now). It's really important for the sake of profitability. I'm pretty sure Ueda wouldn't have a problem with making such a game if Sony asked him to. In fact, didn't he say something along those lines, that he could still make a great game even if he was told it needed to be more marketable?

creativity: who says you should be able to have a Barrens-like chat? Maybe it's not that kind of online game.

Oh let's not forget the soundtrack! One of the best ever, it added a lot to the game.

Fair enough. Let's say there's no player communication in the game.

Instead imagine user created colossi a la Spore.

That means hundreds of thousands of giant colossus phalluses to climb.

I know I don't speak for everyone, but I'd kind of rather leave this sort of game entirely in Ueda's hands.
