People on this site are great and moderation control seems to be spot on - which is putting the hammer down on stupidity. And they don't get tangled up being SJW hero taking political sides. A recent dumb Reeee example is the Chic Fil A discussion where people are gabbing back and forth, then some mod storms in says Chil Fil A is homophobic, does a last jab saying Popeyes is better and then locks the thread. Nice maturity there Reee mod. People can't even have fun bickering about a fried chicken fast food joint.

Feels pretty relaxed and, within reasonable limits, people can just chat shit and joke about whatever.

The community is at a pretty nice size just now where there’s a good amount of discussion going on but not so much that you feel like whatever you say gets lost in a flood of other comments. I don’t post nearly as much as a lot of people but I still feel involved in a way I didn’t in oldGAF.

Reactions are a good way to show you support a comment or say you find it funny without replying with “this”

Mod contributions in threads are pretty minimal. Which is good not because of the mods themselves but how people used to fawn over them. In retrospect when you combine that with the arbitrary bans it was pretty bad for the culture here. The ban tracker also helps keep them accountable to the community.

The politics forum keeps that stuff mostly contained in there.

But its also saying something that it was possible, either way.

Compared to 2019 GAF, there is a lot more going on and the ban page reflects exactly that. But it makes it easier to sit back and enjoy and take things in stride.

I think Papa and Cunth are actually alright. Just different. But compared to the crazy year that was 2020, they actually are normal, hah.

So what do i like most? Well, i can just make posts and hope they are useful.

Yes. I lost access to my old account when I left university a few years back and before that I left the site on a whole for 4 years bc of what it became after Bishoptl was banning people for calling him out on his bs. I think you had to use an offical email address back then to sign up for GAF.

I not sure if anyone remembers this but my breaking point on the old GAF reached its limit when OverWatch was released (back when I was a big gamer) and people were complaining about the lack of diversity in characters even things like the lack of old women and how Mei was too fat or skinny.

My close and personal friend was banned for saying people were being crazy for arguing over crazy and minute details. (After he got banned and I left soon after).

GAF like people evolved into something better. It certainly has become a much more tolerable and thought provoking place.

I notice some old posters no longer need to tip toe that line for fear of being banned (even when they not breaking TOS). Its great not having that constant fear over you, just obey the classical rules and you’re golden.
