• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

What do you really want this "gen"?

-For MS to put their Windows games on Steam.

-For Horizon to be 60fps on the Neo.

-For Gsync monitors to go down in price

These are a bit cheating but I'd like to know before next gen begins:

-For PS5 to have BC and also have Neo upgrades when applicable.

-For Sony to be transparent if PS5.5 will be just like a Neo.

Now that games are completely installed on a hard drive to run them, physical and digital. I want to be able to choose what I install. Like install campaign and multiplayer then after I've beat single player, delete it and only keep multiplayer installed.

If I have Resident Evil 5 installed but I only play Mercenaries, then I shouldn't have to have all the movies, dialogue and sound taking up space on my hard drive.

An open world co-op-optional RPG (action or turn based, something similar to Dragon Quest IX or Dragon's Dogma) with online play
A handheld game that uses your own music collection in a meaningful way

Same things I've wanted for a couple generations now.

EDIT: Forgot to throw in: Cross-Platform Multiplayer for multiplatform games

For Japanese developers to make a come back without trying to imitate Western developers

More 3D platformers, turn based RPGs and action games

For local multi-player to stop getting axed

Not having to pay for online multi-player

Less of a focus on overly cinematic clunky games

Being able to play your own music within a game

For the Mario RPGs to go back to being as good as they used to be and, if not that, then just move on and make a new IP

For Nintendo to get at least GameCube-level support with the NX (Don't know what gen it counts as but it'll likely compete with the PS4/XB1 for a good 4 or so years so I guess it'll be Nintendo's second 8th gen system)

Well, this gen is almost over. New hardware has been announced and we know a lot already.

So I guess what I want from this gen is for it to be over as quickly as possible so we can move on.

60fps as a standard
I really hate to use this word because it sounds obnoxious
but developers were really "lazy" in the PS3/X360 gen & just blamed the hardware for the lack of a 60fps support (and it is a bit justifiable sometimes especially with the PS3)
but now we have this new hardware and they're all like:
BUT CINEMATICS THOUGH!
gimme a break...

That Konami is trolling us the same way SE was and will end up announcing MGS3 remake for PS4. I still can't believe those graphics are being used solely for a pachinko game. After getting the FF VII remake and Shenmue 3 announced, I have reason to believe miracles can happen.

I really want Mecha games to come back this gen.

Armored Core V and V day were the last ones of any note I can think of (released in the west) and those games were oddly more multiplayer focused than any armored core in the franchise and it hurt it a bit. 4 Answer is still pretty awesome.

Now there are more Free to play PC mech games but those arent the same as big console releases. Titanfall counts I guess but mecha only share the spotlight. Japan still makes Gundam games that occasionally come over but mostly the fighting games and Dynasty Warriors ones now.

I'd really like to see the genre resurge this gen. Maybe From Software's next new IP will be mech based (it's going to be VR compatible after all).

Nintendo to stop needlessly censoring dumb stuff.

Persona 5

A good Sci-fi RPG, hopefully set in space.

Mandatory fps targets are needless for games like RPGs and thusly not likely.

Games that stoke my imagination, rather than sequels, rehashes, copycats, games playing it safe, or yet another iteration of familiar themes.

I want EA to reboot the Dead Space franchise.

I want Burnout Paradise 2 from Criterion.

I want Sony to make another Getaway game.

I want Sunset Overdrive 2.

I want Sony to give us BC for ps1/ps2/ps3 games on PS4.

I want another inFamous game starring Cole McGrath.

I want Sony to reboot the Socom franchise, GR Wildlands just makes me think what could have been.

I want Peter Moore to give us another EA MVP Baseball game with Noah Syndergaard as the cover star.

I want a Zombie Army Trilogy 2.

I want Insomniac to give us a Resistance game and I want it to be called Resistance 4.

I want a Halo game in which we finally get to see Master Chief unmasked.

I want MS to hire the folks who are devloping Yooka Laylee and give us a new banjo game.

I want MS to rehire all the Lionheart folks, hire Molyneux and have then give us a proper Fable game.

I want the NX to just be a box that I can plug to my tv, use a gamepad and play awesome Nintendo games on it. No fucking gimmicks.

I want Sony to provide servers for online play on Resistance 2 so I can finally get the remaining 6400 ranked kills I need to get my Resistance 2 platinum.

Finally, I want Dylan Jobe to answer my damn tweets, get off his ass, and give me a Warhawk for ps4.

If I could only have one...giving up BC for all 3 generations would be tough but I have to take Warhawk for ps4. If that game came out, I feel like it would consume me whole.

I want Nintendo to kick ass with the NX and deliver something new and different (that won't be regarded as a gimmick).

More powerful hardware (neo and scorp)
Less shooters
Less games in the first person
Less cinematic games
Proper Nintendo account system

not holding my breath (aside from #1)

Decent Trade In Offers for upgrading existing consoles
More options for 60fps/30 toggles and visual effects (CA etc)
Be held back as little as possible by xbone/Ps4

I just want some truly great games.

Outside of Nintendo, there hasn't been a single game this gen that I'd consider a GOAT competitor.

PSN name and region change
PSN prices in my currency
NNID name and region change
Remove Nintendo region lock
Vita 2: SD card boogaloo
Open world Zelda
Demon's Souls remaster
Halo 1-3 on Steam/W10

Great Games

Now hear me: I know there are plenty of good games around. But I feel like there's a real lack of quality, incredible experiences out there. Most titles feel rushed, incomplete or lacking content. I'm sick and tired of the race to photorealism and cutting edge graphics, I'm pissed at DLC/season passes and I'm not sure online is the future.

I want goofy sports games (Red Card Soccer, NFL Blitz, etc.) Rocket League is great, but it's the only one

I want platformers like Mario 64 (hoping Yooka-Leylee delivers)

I want games that are a hit in my living room (think Mario Party)

I want grand JRPGs that will engulf me in their stories and universes

I want games made of love and not greed

NX to be a success,
Konami to return making console games like MGS
Capcom making other games from their expanded library
Platinum games to have a break out hit both critically and financially

....yeah i don't see these happening :(

Final Fantasy Tactics 2

Halo 6 on PC

Better internet speeds in the United States

One of those things will actually happen.

Games:
- Devil May Cry 5
- Capcom All-Stars/Marvel vs. Capcom 4
- Bayonetta 3/Bayonetta x DMC
- Suikoden 6 #fuckonami
- Shadow Hearts 3
- A real Breath of Fire 6
- Alundra 3 (so Matrix Software can be saved from making otaku games and iOS ports)
- Tenchu 5
- Garou 2 is finally finished and released
- A new SSX that lives up to the legacy and potential of the franchise
- New mid-to-big budget 3rd person horror IPs (and Silent Hills)
- New IP: Big budget turn-based JRPG
- New Miyazaki IPs
- Remasters: Shadow Hearts, Suikoden, SSX, SMT: Nocturne, UMvC3, God Hand, Vanquish, Bayonetta
- PC ports: UMvC3, DMC 1 & 3, DmC Definitive Edition, 3rd Strike, Last Blade 2, Garou, Shadow Hearts, Tenchu, SSX, SMT/Persona, Suikoden, Silent Hill, MGS, ZoE2, God Hand, Vanquish, Bayonetta, etc. etc.

Trends and events:
- More indies
- More games with in-depth combat mechanics
- Franchise revivals to be as faithful and polished as DOOM 4
- Return of arcade sports and racing games
- More companies, Japanese especially, to dump their catalogs onto Steam.
- Japanese companies putting their games on GoG.
- Variable pricing
- Local multiplayer
- Valve to crack down on Steam Greenlight trash

I miss modestly budgeted, quirky/experimental Japanese games. (And I don't mean those of the otaku-bait or iOS pachislot variety.) Indies have bloomed in the West, so it would be nice if that spread elsewhere. The most we can hope for these days is PC ports.

Innovative gameplay
Advance AI
gigantic wild west battle royal type of game with towns, mini games, some rpg elements, open sandbox wild west game...(online - sort of like red dead redemption GTA Online infusion)

Kingdom Hearts III
Final Fantasy XV
Mirror's Edge 2
The Last Guardian
Final Fantasy VII Remake
Beyond Good & Evil 2

Really, those are the games that I ever want out of this generation of consoles and so long as they don't completely screw up those, I'll be pretty happy with this generation. Everything else is just a plus. At this point, we are well on our way to fulfilling my most anticipated games list. Ubisoft just needs to get off their ass and actually make Beyond Good & Evil 2 a reality instead of all the empty promises so far.

Return of good jrpgs like the good ol days, that aren't all focused on fan-service

and aren't cringey as heck

A) To be surprised. Good job, DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM.
B) To be not surprised. Where the hell is Colony Wars VR? This is so frigging obvious.
