What does Nintendo mean to you?

Hey guys and gals, I'm doing a write-up on the history of Nintendo and would like to hear what everyone's thoughts on the company, their games, and what they mean to you?

For me, Nintendo has always been a constant in my life from my earliest memories and best memories all the way up to today where I still get with friends and family to play Smash Bros and lately, hunt for Amiibos.

Great games, memorable all-star cast for all ages and a company who truly lives on redefining styles of play. For better and for worse.

Or as Yahtzee put it; "have fun, play games".

Nintendo:
Out of touch with the the youth and internet / multiplayer connectivity
Awesome Games,; could be seen as childlike, but adults love em too.
Amibo addiction

i do think that if nintendo came out now, they would struggle !

Used to be some old ass fun games I played when I was young (I´m almost 40).. nothing out of the ordinary..

Today Nintendo is a game company I let my kids bother with.. nothing in there for me, unless I want to take a walk down a little of my childhood memory lane.

Wonderful, timeless games. Games whose quality is expected and delivered. All coming from a company that is kinda really bad at reading the market. Their games shaped my childhood and define who I am today. The legend of zelda holds an incredibly special place in my heart for many reasons. I just wish I didn't have to jump through so many hoops to get what I want all the time.

Even though, they aren't really currently part of my rotation (I only own a barely used 3DS) Nintendo are the reason video games are such a big part of my life. It started with the NES, and, then, right into the Game Boy and SNES. From there, my relationship has been scattershot, but, they'll always hold a special place for me.

Region locking (born out of greed), bad online account system, bad supply, weak hardware, bad marketing, awesome games.

EDIT: And short sighted greed (content creator program).

Nintendo means wonderfully polished games. I have no problem buying Nintendo games pre-GAF impressions/reviews primarily because Nintendo is my favorite dev but also because you know you'll get a quality product. Even Nintendo games I don't play, like the Kirby series or the Mario Kart series among others, I can appreciate the effort and polish that went into them.

Good games, bad everything else. I could make a list a mile long about my problems with current Nintendo, but their actual games being good saves them from stupid management decisions.

Game before everything else in videogame (movie,story,sandbox,social)...We need a strong studio/publisher keeping doing this.

I grew up with their consoles and their games, so I have a lot of nostalgia for everything form the GameBoy to the N64.

These days, I'm happy that they still put out high quality first party games and buy most of their handhelds. I think there still is a market for them and their first party and third party games, which wouldn't be possible anywhere else currently. I don't think that they have a place in the home console market anymore and would prefer they made games for other consoles.

Online system and DD pricing sucks, region locking sucks.

Great games, dumb business decisions, sadly less focus on franchises I really enjoy with Pokemon and now Fire Emblem being exceptions.
