What does Nintendo mean to you?

Nintendo for me is the prime example of a quality game maker and publisher. They consistantly made great games since the beginning of the 80s and they knew how to keep my interest up to today's games. There's nothing else like them I must say and I will remember some games for the rest of my life, let alone their many titles that are actually timeless and that I replay like once a year or so.

It used to mean an innovative company that led the way in gaming with unique, original, high-quality titles.

Now it means an aimless enterprise that caters only to a shrinking number of fans whose nostalgia keeps them loyal and generous with their dollars.

Well there isn't much saying it would do well other than fans saying they'll buy it. I mean of the franchises that are on both portable and handheld, handheld always seems to sell more.

This cannot be real life, you are telling me that you doubt how succesful a full fledge 3d pokemon game would be? It would not save the Wii U but to say that it's success would be questionable is just, wow.

a company guided by ethoi that lead to them often making the not-obvious decision. this leads to antagonistic befuddlement (some of it understandable if not justified) on the part of a sect of gamers whose chief use for the hobby is wish-fulfilling escapism. on the other hand, its somewhat-out-of-fashion emphases on gameplay and polish have endeared it to a vocal minority, who (again understandably if not justifiably) frequently find it necessary to protect the company as if it's their own newborn from the "vulgarity" of those who don't "get it."

that's what nintendo signifies to me. now when it gets narrowed down more specifically to their franchises and games, well, i like or love most of them.

* Producer of some of the finest video games on the planet, 40 years running.
* A company run by video game devs, not suits.
* Frustrating. I think everyone wants Nintendo to do more, which is good.

Nintendo = video games. Always have been, always will be. They don't make clock radios or office software. Just video games.

They were basically my Disney growing up. I remember being about 8 years old and counting down the days until Super Mario 3 came out.

Being a kid and playing The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past was a magical experience. It was akin to seeing The Empire Strikes Back for the first time. I haven't really felt that way about a game since.

Nintendo is like that crazy kid in the corner of the class you think sniffs glue but actually makes works of art that would make Picasso poop his pants in fear.

Nothing really. They produce annoying fans who think they are the patron saints of gaming which is very annoying. They don't really make the kinds of gaming experiences I'm looking for. It's cool they they have funded Bayonetta and Xenoblade, but that's really it. They just aren't a company that makes the kinds of games I want.

Having the most polished games around.

Having the most fun games around.

Having some of the most annoying business practices around.

Gameplay above all else, Fire Emblem, Advance Wars, Pokemon and of course awesome local multiplayer games. The amount of hours I played Melee, Mario Party, Strikers, Kart, Tennis and New super Mario Bros with my friends was huge, I durely miss those days, they will always be some of my fondest gaming memories even though I'm more of a single player kind of guy.

For me there's two Nintendos.

The 80s/90s, ruthless Nintendo who produced good games.

The later, blase Nintendo who tried to live off past glories.

They will always be an important feature of growing up and I will always have a soft spot for them for that reason, but I find their current output so far below the quality of the pre-GameCube output that I am kind of disappointed.

Disappointing.

Irrelevance

I think the SNES was the last Nintendo system I really cared about. Now I just see them as that other, non competing, system that I have little interest in. I rank them up there with the Ouya or niche gaming box.

Nintendo to me means fun and enjoyment, often combined with a lack of any commercial reality. They truly are the ones making the games that they want to play themselves, and blindly trust that others will also enjoy them. Alas the market they helped create has grown up and their tastes have changed. I hope there is a way they can stick to their guns and retain their relevancy at the same time.

Nothing. Aside from Super Mario World, their games never interested me all that much and I didn't grow up with any Nintendo consoles in my home.

They're the only big publisher at the moment that is putting their name on games that are among the best in their entire genres (donkey kong, bayo, w101, etc)

I only care about good games.

Outdated, unmodern, lagging behind and subbornness. Like how they are the only ones with region locking, disastrous online features such as friend codes, always a generation behind with graphics etc.

Needless to say, a company that I don't support or admire.

Childhood memories of N64 and now mentions of great games that I never played

I bought a N64, greatest times of my childhood playing super smash bros
I nearly bought a gamecube, glad I didnt...
I never bought a wii, few times I wanted to but largely not even considered.
I never bought a DS (any). not a portable gamer.
I havent bought a Wii U, I hear of greatness but... I am hesitant..

My childhood of the 80s/90s. The NES and SNES and their great quality/quantity of games were a big part of my life back then. Still love the trinity of Mario/Zelda/Metroid, though.

I was going to say "childhood", only to realize that I still enjoy Nintendo games immensely. That said, most of my fondest childhood memories are Nintendo-related one way or another.

Basically this.

They've gone from my favorite game company as a child to the company that is least relevant to me as an adult.

Innovative games and gaming system.

Mature games and kids games are equally important.

Smooth, responsive gameplay and great graphics.

Almost the last big publisher that dares to put innovations in middle and even high budget games and even dares to change concepts of very successful game series.

Sometimes strange decisions in not gaming related topics, like 3DS ac adapter or only New 3DS XL in US.

Great games and interesting hardware, made by a company that I am starting to increasingly despise and resent supporting.

I.e. 3 fucking days straight that I can't login into CN to enter my codes and order rewards. Really, Nintendo?

Terrible hardware, over priced games with shit production values, and mediocrity all around.

Just look at MM 3D, they can't even do a proper port anymore without screwing it up!

The last Nintendo game I played that I really enjoyed was Radiant Dawn.

I have fond memories of NES era Nintendo. Also love their handhelds up to Game Boy Advance. Newer stuff? Don't care tbh.

They make up about 60% of my video game interest. They are so integrated to my life, it'd be so hard living in a world without Nintendo games and hardware. Luckily that will never happen. I want to play Nintendo handhelds of future when I'm 90 years old.
