....What?

Tell me this is a fucking joke.

It basically erases Homer's entire childhood and flashback episodes of his mom younger and him as a happy go lucky hippy child running around naked in the fields. That episode was so fucking sad and brilliant.

BRILLIANT. ARGH!

Omg, it actually did happen. There was an episode called "That 90s Show"...you have GOT to be kidding me.

Al Jean, you can go fuck yourself.

I don't remember to be honest. Sometime in the early teen seasons I'd guess. Homer seemed to go from being dumb but well intentioned to an outright buffoon. Lisa also became way too preachy.

Required reading.

It was early in the original Futurama run when I gave up watching. The show had gotten bad for a while but it was the episode where Homer was yelling out Jebus a bunch presumably because he was so stupid he never heard of Jesus before. That's the last episode that I watched. Wikipedia tells me that this was episode 241: Missionary Impossible in Season 11. Never watched the show again after that one.

It was a real bummer finally giving up on the Simpsons because it had such a good initial run. I watched the show pretty much from the beginning. My uncle brought over a bunch of VHS tapes for me of the early episodes when I was 7 in 1990 and I watched those a bunch and started watching the show when it aired after that. I have a lot of good memories of the Simpsons throughout almost the entirety of the 90s.

That was mine. Its...I dunno? Hateful? Sophomoric? It has that sneering anti-religeon blue-state wash on it, but it also goes for the "savage jungle cannibals" as a plot point. Just icky and narrow-minded all around. Simpsons for me had been smart people writing from the heart no matter how bitter and ascerbic it got, but that one was clearly by smart people with no heart desperate (or too incompetant not) to advertise that fact. It had felt like it was slipping for a few years, but that one was the point of no return and I ain't seen a live episode since.

I didn't stop watching the Simpsons because any particular episode repulsed me. One thing that does stand out in my memory was when they were hyping up an episode with some sort of James Bond theme that I was looking forward too. However, that day I ended up watching a showing of The Lion King on TV instead. I was a little bummed at missing the episode, but watching the Lion King was worth it. I think that's when I just stopped caring about watching new episodes as they aired. Next thing I know, people are talking about episodes I have never seen and it turned into people talking about how bad the series has become. I guess I left before the down-turn really began in earnest.

don't think it was one particular episode but i just got tired of waiting for good episodes and quit around the 12th season.

I'm not sure the exact episode, but the one where they retconned the entire series for absolutely no fucking reason at all was a big warning flag for me.

Somewhere around the time all those pointless cameos started.

This. Around 1999-2000, I still remember my friends and I going through that joyless ritual of tuning in and coming away disappointed, except for a John Swartzwelder-written episode. That Super Bowl episode is emblematic of the series' downward trajectory.

The Tony Hawk episode when Bart starts referencing Tony Hawk's name about 5 times. That was the moment I realized The Simpsons was actually behind the curve instead of ahead of it.

I don't remember a particular episode was just getting bored of it. It was tradition to watch it every day at 6pm when I was 8-14.

I can't pinpoint an episode but I think it has to do with being disappointed with the Halloween special's for 3 or 4 years in a row. I realized then that the Simpson's I knew and loved was finished.

I'm not sure what happened to the writing. Homer went through some sort of personality change. Initially he was dumb and smug. Now he is just dumb...

it's real and it's horrible. Not only because the jokes don't work, but because it damages the (already flimsy but endearing) continuity the show had. And I don't know what they were thinking, trying to lampoon the early 90s, when they were actually part of that era and helped define it. It's a bit of a mindfuck in every sense of the word... and not a good one.

The show has been on for 25 years. Anyone watching it from the start has aged like 20 years or so and are completely different people. I'm not sure there is anything any show could do to keep the same audience for that long really. The magic of that show is that it was able to bring in new audiences continuously even as the old bow out.

I forgot when I stopped watching regularly. I remember watching the episode where homer had a heart attack and getting a wierd feeling on that episode. I don't remember it being that funny overall, and the jokes were really out there causing my parents to call it quits right around then. I kept watching, but definitely became more casual. Somewhere in the initial family guy premier I stopped

My tastes havent evolved. I've always felt funny about Simpsons. Modern day people view Simpsons as garbage and a Family Guy rip-off. It tries too hard, that's what modern day simpsons is.

The show had been on the air for 20 years, so the current generation was clueless about the '70s.

Of course, they could have stuck to their guns, but...

The reason the show is still on is because it still makes money man. People like to dream that no one likes it but that is nowhere near reality. It still wins Emmys and they can still charge a shit ton to advertisers cuz the key demos still watch it. Anyone watching the Simpsons back in the day have probably aged out of the key demographic by now.

I don't get how it's still on the air. The viewership has been in decline for the last 4 years. I know it's been renewed up into Season 26 but who's to say it'll last past that?

The worst episode for me was with Frank Grimes' son. This was the straw for me. I ENJOYED the Lady Gaga episode though.

it's probably going to end soon... i'd say season 30 at the very latest. the voice actors are getting too old. i don't mean to sound cold but there's a good chance at least one of the main voice talents will die or become ill within the decade

or barring that, they're asking for too much money as it is. so as McClure put it, "when the show becomes unprofitable"

In my country, several main voice actors already died. It's getting disgracing and just embarrassing.

BRILLIANT. ARGH!

Here he is in his grunge band "Sadgasm" singing a song to Marge called "Margorine", to the tune of Bush's "Glycerin"

I believe I said enough is enough When Homer went to rock camp. Season 14 I think? I was the biggest Simpsons fan in the world otherwise I would have given up around season 10 or 11.
