What exactly was the tech level of Atlantis?

When it comes to pseudo-historical nonsense I prefer stuff along the lines of ancient Romans or Phonecians washing up on American beaches after being blown off course.

I guess we're going to turn this into a history lesson...

As many of you know, in 1827, famed Portuguese explorer, Diogo Paiva discovered 54 scrolls 108 kilometers off the coast of Madagascar. The scrolls were preserved through what we would recognize today as lamination using an unknown synthetic polymer. For 13.5 years, they sat in the drawing room of Paiva's second cousin (and rumored homosexual lover), Bernardo.

A chance visit by world renowned linguist, Fernando Penito, to Bernardo's home uncovered this great discovery for the world to see and study. 90% of my research is based on the scroll translations provided by Penito and his assistant, Duarte Lisboa.

Why can't I find any of this in Google?

I went to Greece this past summer. The ruins of the Minoans civilization don't match up with the story at all. If they are the "tech level" we are talking about then its a pretty boring discussion. They basically had running water and some nice architecture...that's about it.

I thought th ere were quite a number of things that lined up. Pygmy elephants for one.

I don't know about their tech level, but they built with really strange geometrical shapes. They had a war that lasted a long long time before their city, Rel'ya, sunk under the ocean with their ruler, Cthulhu.

Wow, I've never heard of any of that. Please go on. What did the scrolls say? Do you have any sources or books on this? Or maybe your dissertation too?

I actually did get one link when I searched Diogo Paiva 54 scrolls

Have...have I created a paradox??? O_o

Bullshit. We all know the Atlanteans purposefully sunk their city to protect it from their final enemy the Wraith.

Erick Von Daniken already covered that for us. I want to know more about Atlantis!

Bomba's dissertation is like the my most wanted thing right now. I think I want it more than Star Wars VII.

Actually according to most Ancient Astronaut theorists, the pyramids were actually built by human Egyptians, they just had the knowledge of how to do so provided by Aliens.

Giorgio Tsouakalos should post on GAF.

When I was in the natural history museum in Crete I learned that the elephants on Crete went extinct well before humans ever inhabited the island. (about 9,000 years ago I believe).

None of the Minoans sites are beyond the straight of Gibraltar like Plato said so there is that.

Also, Crete is by far the biggest island associated with the Minoans and it would still be way too small to fit the descriptions. Thera is the one that would make the most sense due to the volcano exploding but when I was at the archaeological sites there they said they have never found any human remains so everyone appears to have left ahead of time. That and the most advanced tech I saw there was a toilet on the 3rd floor of a house. Doesn't really fit with the story.

My bullshit detector is going wild, but his well-articulated explanations make me genuinely want to hear more about these 54 scrolls. Even if it's fiction, I'm interested and hooked.

So much ignorance in this thread. People who are awake know that Atlantis is the name the white devil gave the Space Moors who colonized Earth.

This is getting good. Like the opening minutes of a Michael Bay movie. I'm in.

I always saw Atlantis as acient world's Florida. Ancient civilitations actually went ahead and removed them from the face of the earth.

I'm pretty sure Atlantis is the civilization behind the binding of magical spells into specific phrasings of human language. Their civilization represented the apex of magical society and their hubris one day lead to their demise. Modern day wizards have the specific genetic markers that allow them to hook into the force that controls the spells we use today. Read it all in a Harry Potter fanfic, it's legit.

I'll be glad to elaborate if you want to hear more. In the interest of my time, where should I focus?

Thanks.

I'm interested on knowing the physical location of Atlantis, also if their technology was somewhat akin to ours (vehicles? devices?).
How come there is so few info on this?

I understand that stargates were involved, or possibly the television show Stargate had drawn some inspiration from the stories surrounding those untranslated texts. I'd be interested in seeing the translations myself.

For now I'd love to know what was on these scrolls, as I've never heard of them.

In the long run though I'd like to know what was in your dissertation, possibly even read it if I can. Any evidence or even info on Atlantis is always welcome! Educate us man, educate us!

It's finally finishing early this year, I should bump the thread.

Did you develop an expert system for generating copypasta and unleash it on this thread? The above is AMAZING work, I refuse to believe that mere human minds could create such a work of copypasta magnificence like the one above.

They can't have been that advanced as they sunk into the sea and totally vanished, you think a few would have survived to pass on their history.

I'm of the opinion that ancients very well may have very well had access to much higher technology than what we give them credit for

You would think that. You've gotta be more open-minded, man. I wrote my thesis about the sinking of Rel'ya. It's legit. I'd say more, but out of respect for NeoGaf's expected modus operandi, I'll refrain from taking this conversation even further off topic. I'll be happy to talk about it more in a "What, exactly, happened to Rel'ya" thread, if such a thing were to exist.

I can't understand how people can just believe something like this, without having any proof to support their beliefs.

I mean, why not crack a book and actually learn what they were about, instead of wishfully thinking there is some kind of massive unresolved mystery left?
