• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

What game are you currently playing?

So 65 hours for this playthrough mainly focused on lightroots/batteries?
Basically! I just checked and I've completed 87 out of the 152 shrines. I did some exploring and cleared a bunch of caves and similar stuff, but my main focus was finishing the Lightroots and upgrading my battery.

I also think it's basically mandatory to upgrade your gear beforehand. You don't want to get one-shot in encounters and have to respawn over and over

I put in a lot of time but have a lot of unfinished sidequests and collectibles in my main playthrough, was considering at least completing the lightroots while checking out the Switch 2 update. Worth it?
I honestly think the game is phenomenal, so yeah, I'm gonna say it's worth it. Unless you disliked the game of bounced off it for certain reasons.

I'm playing on a Switch Lite right now, but I'm probably getting a Switch 2 tomorrow. I can't wait to play this in 60fps.

Dark Souls III

Welp, here we go again. I've bounced off this game a lot of times already. I am working on a boss weapon build but of course I am somehow stuck on Rotted Greenwood. He's killed me like 4 or 5 times now. I've been way past this point in the game. It is so frustrating and I don't think I'm going to last more than two or three more tries.

I wish they'd make a version of Dark Souls III and Bloodborne with no stamina, and Sekiro with no posture meter; just let the player go ham. Tune up enemy aggression and defense. I don't think I'd need another game for a long time; I'd just live in those.

Finding new love for RE2 Remake with the PC version. I mean, I love the game already but playing it on PC with M+K is just icing the cake. So good. Will be the definite version for me from here on in.

Last week I finished, Metroid Prime 4
Disgusted Jim Carrey GIF

I started Alan Wake 2, I am having a blast! I like the game a lot, good weird interesting story so far, I am liking it a lot, the whole FBI investigator is good, having fun exploring the initial setting, solving puzzles, the action is good, good characters, great production values, sound is really awesome. I hope I get to finish before I go back to work next year. I wanted to start Resident Evil from Zero to Village, but I rather play something new. I have played all of them, but, never got to finish 6.

I finished my second Resident Evil 4 Remake run last night, what a fantastic game from the level designs to the phasing.

I'll continue the RE marathon with 7 & Village and get ready for Requiem, but my next goal is to get a clean platinum for God of War Ragnarök. I missed Kratos and felt this was exactly the kind of game I needed for the new year season.

I decided to fire up Dark Souls III and see what kind of save files I have.

It looks like I have two game files for DkS3:

Level 53
977 HP
112 STA
10 Estus +6

Sharp Longsword +6
Heavy Astora Greatsword +5
VIG 24
END 20
VIT 21
STR 21
DEX 21

lvl 53 and I was getting destroyed at Central Irithyll just past the plaza bonfire. Fast dancing sword enemies are absolutely destroying me and I barely get a swing off. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do here with these guys, and I think that's why I stopped playing this file...

Then I guess I started another file. Lvl 12 Knight still at High Wall of Lothric and when I loaded the file...

YOU DIED

lol

When I don't have time, or I'm not in the mood to play this game or something complicated, I can play some online slots, and I really like it. Slots really entertain me, and it's mostly based on luck, so I don't need to dedicate such efforts. Some time ago online casino magyar helped me to choose which casino site to try next, and the info provided there really helped me out. Before, it was harder to find a reliable site, but when you know some info beforehand, it's much easier.
Yeah, I've played Dark Souls III too, and Irithyll is honestly a big wake-up call. Those fast sword enemies wrecked me more times than I'd like to admit. They're brutal if you try to trade hits or rush them
And you know, at first I didn't even like the game, but now I find it really cool.

Final Fantasy VII
Just arrived in Kalm. Still haven't decided who I'll use in my party. I always tell myself I'll use Cait Sith but that never happens.

Resident Evil Director's Cut
Just about to leave the mansion behind and head underground.

Astilbra
Cured Kuro and now I need to find a way into the church. I'm loving this game. The only criticism I have is that the boss battles can be quite long.

Tomb Raider Remastered
Left Peru and now I've arrived in Greece.

Why does my quoted post have some weird-ass ad at the bottom?! lol

Dark Souls III

I finally managed to kill Rotted Greatwood, and then used the Transposing Kiln to get Vordt's Great Hammer. Now I'm taking my time going through these early areas and kill everything for fun, explore, find materials, etc.

How do you like the Remaster, its the old games remastered, right? Tomb Raider I-III.

Yup, it's the original trilogy of games from the PS1 days. I'm enjoying it a lot. Took a while to get used to the controls. I love the level design and atmosphere. Sound is also excellent. I miss these older games.

That weapon carried me a long way.

I think I went from that to the Guts Greatsword and finally to the Fume Greatsword during my playthrough.

That's what the guide I followed talked about; this hammer is supposed to be viable for most of, if not the entire, game.

I want to try some of the Greatswords too!

EDIT:

Dark Souls III
I'd like to explore some more Fashion Souls in my current playthrough, but I am not knowledgeable about armor sets/clothing and where to find everything.

Are there any specific guides or lists that are really easy to use? Which would you recommend? Thanks!

Yeah, the old games were more about exploration and puzzles rather than action driven uncharted clones.

In theory, every weapon is viable for the entire game.

I will say that this hammer and the two greatswords I mentioned trivialize a lot of boss fights.

Also, FightinCowboy has the best Walkthroughs for just about every souls and soulslike game.

Finished Nobody Wants to Die the other day. The game started so strong but ended up as a letdown. The second half of the story takes an interesting noir cyberpunk murder mystery and just takes a giant shit on it.

Back to my NG+ run of Expedition 33, Sea of Stars, and resuming a Mass Effect trilogy run that I paused at the Horizon mission in ME2.

Hell yeah. I used Vordt's Great Hammer when I replayed the game in 2023. Fun weapon, and the only really formidable Frost weapon imo.

Winter Burrow: played literally all day yesterday. The game is great. Probably the best winter game I've ever played, along with I Am Setsuna. Really captures the feeling of cold on the screen and in the gameplay and artwork. The artwork is one of my top picks for best art of the year. The whole game looks like a dark, melancholy Hallmark card, with pencil sketch lines everywhere. Doesn't reinvent the wheel for survival games but will likely be the 1st one I actually finish.

Winter Burrow: got the platinum. Feels so satisfying to start starving and freezing and progress to the coziest Burrow ever.

Commandos Origins: on mission 1. Not quite as elegant as Shadow Tactics but pretty dang similar. Fun so far.

Completely forgot about that game. How does it compare to the originals?
I actually never played the originals. I've beaten Shadow Tactics and Desperados 3. I bought the pirate one but haven't started it yet.

So far its very similar to Shadow Tactics. Same view cones. 2 characters now, one with a lure and one with a trap. So far so good. But I'm pretty early.

They just introduced command mode so you can program 1 action each. And a gun finally. Game is fun so far!
Nice! IIRC Shadow Tactics is basically old Commandos, so I guess this one must be similar too. If you like the new game, you should check out at least Commandos 2, imo the best of the original trilogy. Some real pretty pre-rendered scenarios in that game too.

Shinobi was really good, I enjoyed it a lot. Great mix of action and platforming and some side stuff. Now playing Ninja Gaiden Ragebound and enjoying that also. Gonna try to bang out a handful of smaller titles to close out the year.

I've seen bundles on sale cheap so I might have to do that. 👍

Is Praetorians worth getting? They have a Comm 2 and Praetorians bundle or a Comm 2 and 3 bundle.

But is it fun and addicting to unlock stuff, or does it feel pointless?
That depends on the individual, I suppose. Do you like looking at scenery and artistic views? Do you like fishing? If not, the game isn't for you, unless maybe you just like to complete games for the sake of it. There's no adrenaline rush or dopamine hit, just Cast N Chill.

Sorry man, I never really played that one, at least not enough to be able to recommend it.

Might be worth checking out if it's very cheap tho.

Finished Alan Wake and the 2 dlcs and got the second installed now.

Got loads in the backlog too, plus I keep eyeing the Crysis remastered trilogy on GOG that's on sale at the moment....

Finished Claire's run in the RE Remake. The finale was incredible on PC but the port seems a bit strange. My GPU usage was all over the place. Mostly at around 60% and than randomly jumping to 100%.

But anyway, now up to Leon's 2nd run. Yes, I'm still salty at how they butchered the 2nd run.

As a huge fan of the originals I couldn't help myself but love it. There are some cool maps in there, took a decent time too to clear all maps, though I'm not exactly sure how I ended up with ~84 hours on Steam after one playtrough on hardest.. maybe there's a good 10 hours idle in the background but still way more than what I'd expect so who knows, maybe the countless reloads :messenger_grinning_sweat:
Anyway the only real issue that I had was the last map, because it's mostly inside buildings and the camera was kind of a nightmare there. Also there is already a DLC too with 4 new maps, I still need to jump on that sometime soon. For fans of these type of games I'd absolutely recommend, we need more of this genre.

On topic I'm doing the new Diablo 4 season for now, had great fun with the new Paladin but I guess I'm close to dropping it being so close to max out this season. After this not sure yet what to do while I wait for my new 5080 card, yeah kinda bad timing with the holidays going on , but I'm still hopeful it arrives next week so then I can pick up some heavier stuff for a good testing period, tinking of Kingdom Come 2 but then I should also start and play the first game before juming in so yeah, I need to figure that out.

Steam Deck indies:
1. Ball x Pit.
2. Slay the Spire.
3. Polytopia (dumbed down Civilization for my dumb brain, I hope to improve enough to be able to start and finally understand the real thing).

Steam Deck older games:
1. GTA V (I actually beat the story, side missions are waiting to be done.). It did not have the best performance on the Deck due to some minor stutters and low population setting.

PS5:
1. Persona 3 Reload (quest for all trophies takes so long, it's so fucking boring doing all social links on a second playtrough when you are OP af. Been playing this irregulary for an entire year and DLC is still waiting to be played.).
2. Hogwarts (already paused for more than a half year).
3. Miles Motales (also already paused for a few months)

I bought Cyberpunk, Tomb Raider 2013 & 4-6 Remastered and Onimusha 2 this week for my annual Christmas splurge. Little did I think I'd be up till 2am last night playing, and enjoying the shit out of Turok 1 on my Switch. Saw it for €3 around midnight, bought it and got totally caught up in it. Gave it another hour this morning and am on level 3. How the hell did I go almost 30 years without experiencing this gem?

Needless to say the other games I bought will go on the backlog.

Dragon Quest 1 Remastered
Got this as a Christmas gift from my mum which made me really happy. I don't have much experience with the Dragon Quest games; I owned 11 but I didn't play for more than a few hours, not sure why. I like how simple the game is so far. Doesn't seem to be any complicated mechanics or growth systems. I've arrived in Rimuldar.

Astilbra
Beat the snake God which was probably the easiest boss so far.

Finished Ninja Gaiden Ragebound. Liked it a lot. Not as much as Shinobi but thought it was really good. Playing Monument Valley next. Wanted to try these games for a while, little puzzle type games to relax during the holiday.

Bravely Default HD Remaster (Switch 2)

I did not play the original on the 3DS. I remember a lot of interest in it by neogaf back in the day.

The music slaps. Normal mode provides a decent level of challenge. The story and characters feels like Final Fantasy. I can see once I get further into it, enjoying making various builds.

F1 Challenge 99-02 may be over 23 years old but it's still kicking ass. Great Sim.
Also Grim Dawn with Reign of Terror Mod which is basically Diablo 2 in Grim Dawn, awesome mod.

Fired up the Xbox 360, after a couple of months hiatus, and this Christmas day I decided to venture further into Transformers War for Cybertron from the Decepticons perspective, never brought it when it first came out, and it seems quite good, though I do get the criticism of everything being a dull grey black colour and not much in the way of visual variety....also it can be frustrating when you run out of ammo...there aren't often may refills about..

Lords of the Fallen

This game slaps hard. Probably the best Souls-like that isn't produced by From. The graphics are top notch, they've nailed the dark fantasy theme and the combat is a lot of fun. Doing a pyro build and burning enemies to crisp never gets old. It balanced well with the difficulty, has lots of cool weapons and fashion Souls. The level design can be a bit confusing but the world building is excellent with how everything is connected. Very impressive stuff.

The lamp mechanics bring a fresh spin to the concept. The fact that the devs have built a secret hidden world underneath the real one is so frigging cool. It adds tension and variety to the combat and exploration, and also cool bits of lore and character development. It's probably the first game I played where devs actually did something with the "power of the ssd" when creating this dual world mechanic. Love the creativity at display here 👌

I can see myself putting some serious hours into this, with different builds every playthrough, just like I did with Dark Souls. Lotf feels like a spiritual successor to DS, hell it even feels like Dark Souls 4 at some points. And that's the highest praise I can give.

I've been playing Soul Calibur III most of the day and it's been great. I've also been playing No Man's Sky on Switch 2 and that's been a lot of fun, too.

I've been playing a bit of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment

You can control several characters, but when you're not actively playing as them they barely do anything. That's a bit odd, because once you switch to them they suddenly have all kinds of moves and combos. It pulled me out of the game a little, but it's still a lot of fun overall.

I've also been playing dem Bananzas

The gameplay is really satisfying
