What game genres do you hoard?

My collection is full of JRPGs I haven't played, for the same reason OP listed. I'm nervous of them getting rare or expensive. I try to only play one at a time but with school its not easy to pick up and play one, so I play a lot of mindless stuff and don't touch my current RPG until the next break.

Music games have also piled up. I got a full band set when people were clearancing them, and since then i've picked up nearly every RB/GH game that came out this gen for $5 or less. I've barely played any because I typically like one or two songs on each game, or none at all. I've bought some great DLC songs but I still can't play any of the games for more than 30 minutes.

On that note, I also have nearly every DJ Hero release because they were so heavily discounted at a local store. I have the special big box version of both games, along with the regular versions that I bought long beforehand. I don't really care for the music tbh, but people always have a blast doing the first few songs so I set it up a lot when I have company.

Fighting and 2D shooters.

They're always good for a fun quick fix when you're short on time or don't feel like investing hours into a game. The more the better.

Not genres but Platinum titles. Own all 4 of their PS3 outings. Got W101 + Bayonetta 2 preordered.

RPG's. My brain tells me I'm still in high school when I buy them, the reality is I have no time to play them....but I still buy em.

Platformers. I'm pretty sure not many people bothered with games like sPRay, Death Jr. II, Mushroom Men, or The Kore Gang on Wii, but I'll scoop up even iffy platformers just because I'm a whore for the genre. And yeah, it definitely backfires sometimes.

Same. I have all of those listed and even such "classics" like Floating Runner, Tork, Malice, and Flips Twisted World.

JRPGs, RPG's in general, Quirky platformers, Anything where I can fight with a mecha and
Roller Coaster Tycoon games

I've been getting into Survival Horror lately so I'm trying to get ahold of all the must have's there. My friends love rhythm games, and I'm generally the one who picks/buys the "group party" type stuff so I've ended up with more of that than one would expect.

I have some Cave games for my 360, a few of which were even imported. That's as close to 'hoarding' as I get these days though. Sold off all my rare games a couple years back. Only keep what I want now.

Looking through my backlog I've noticed that most belong to a certain genre. JRPG's tend to pile up in my backlog due to worry of being scarce or small print runs. I keep buying them even though I haven't opened half of them (Xenoblade, Fire Emblem, Persona Golden to name a few). So GAF which genres do you pile up on?

Yup this is me. I have Xenoblade, Last Story, both Digital Devil Sagas, and probably a bunch of others that I'm forgetting (a lot of the DS jRPGs) just because I know they'll likely be limited print and I'll never see them if I don't get them now.

Suikoden II. I cry myself to sleep over not ever getting it.

JRPGs. I then end up not playing them, even when I get around to going through my backlog.
Tragic, really.

The worst part of not "growing out" of JRPGs as some claim to is realizing that you A.) Now have a life; and B.) Not having the patience to tinker with menus that haven't had their mechanics updated in 15 years, yet going out and getting new ones anyway.

As most people are saying - JRPGs. I pretty much only buy the ones I'm interested in but since they take so long to play, there seem to be so many good ones, my interest wanes in many of them and I switch around between them frequencly, and I try to do my part to "support" them (by buying at launch) they tend to pile up on me.

I buy pretty much everything when it drops below $20.

jRPGs, sports, and racing tend to build up because... I just don't play them.
