What game this gen has the most imersive world?

This gen, I'd go with Bioshock.

Overall, I'd have to give it to System Shock II.

I think it's the incredible sound desigen that helps makes those games so immersive.
 
Read Dead Redemption: literally sucked me into John Marston Survival on the Wild west. From chasing other outlaws to fighting bears or taming wild horses... the variety and vast world really makes for a great experience.

Mass Effect 2: I owned it for a while before I really allowed myself to give this game a chance, once I got the hang of it, I was hypnotized by its world and challenges. Great game.

Skyrim: I am yet scratching the surface of Bethesda's new offering but it sure makes me feel part of something already. The immensity and amount of things to do is almost overwhelming yet exciting when I think about it.

Thank you to all developers who make an effort to provide this amazing experiences.

*On the fun and lighter side of things: Just Cause 2 and its over-the-top action also managed to sucked me into its World. I had so much fun jumping of cliffs, flying over jungles, exploring the random islands for easter eggs, landing helicopters at night over huge skycrapers only to jump off the building... it really got me hooked for a long time.
 
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Those who aren't picking this game as the most immerse of this generation tells me you haven't played this game. You want immersion in video games, go play through Shadow of Chernobyl and then come back to this thread.
 
- Far Cry 2 (This one got to me, the openess, the map. Traveling down a stream at night in a rickety old boat. Amazing game that I still haven't finished.)
- Red Dead Redemption (This one not so much but riding around at night out in the middle of nowhere was amazing)

I think for me, first person perspective is crucial, otherwise I don't get pulled in as much. Guess I'm buying Skyrim and Stalker.
 
For me it's got to be any GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption. The amount of detail that went into those game worlds was enormous, it wasnt just the way they looked the people in game (for the most part) acted like I expected them too and you could stand in any part of the game world and feel like a smaller part of a big world, while at the same time feel like a complete badass when you start ploughing through enemies.

Skyrim comes close but I didn't think it quite topped it, I cant quite put my finger on why yet but check back for an edit xD

Just gotta give one more mention to Battlefield 3 as well, while it might not use the enviroment or the NPS's AI to suck you in the sound is what I would call the best at drawing me into a gun battle.

Skyrim for the exploration of a believable world (environmental presence), Mass Effect 1 and 2 for the characters that I started caring for (interpersonal/social presence).
I liked going hunting in RDR, especially in the woods for a bear. That was a nice immersive touch, also when you first came into the city it almost felt like a culture shock. But ultimately I think the game was too barren and the characters to cardboard cartoony to win out in this respect.

I don't really get people saying Deus Ex; the cities were so boxy and confined, 90 % of the characters just repeated a single line. I liked the game for sure, but everywhere I looked it shouted I'm a game! I'm a game! to me.
 
The fact that I've stuck with Skyrim on PS3 for 77 hours despite its pathetic technical gaffes is testament to how intoxicating this game's atmosphere is
 
GTAIV and RDR, mainly thanks to the absolutely incredible sound design. just walk around in RDR and talk to random NPCs, you'll get a ridiculous amount of different reactions etc... just talking to the nuns in Mexico, there were so many different things Marston says to them (some of them hilarious, like "you look like you could be a great breeder!") and so many of their reactions that i didn't even bother to go through them all. it's ridiculous. in most games you'll get tired of hearing the same lines over and over again (AC1 anyone? lol), but Rockstar makes NPCs that almost never seem to repeat themselves.

i dunno maybe it's just me, but this sort of attention to detail in audio design really makes me immersed in a game, ALL the characters (not just main char) just feel more alive... doesn't hurt that Rockstar also picks believable voice actors.
 
No mentions for Crysis yet? I'll go with that one.

Honorable mentions to both Metroid Prime 3 (even if it is the weakest title in the series, the immersion was still top tier) and Demon's Souls (I REALLY want to play more of this game and Dark Souls, but I don't have a PS3...)

Calling Minecraft's world/atmosphere immersive is downright hysterical lol.

I'm not a fan of those type of experiences normally, but from what I've read about the game, there's nothing hysterical about calling it highly immersive. Is it the graphics that you're hung up on? Because I can think of NES titles that rank among the most immersive gaming experiences ever.

Skyrim and RDR for me. Skyrim, at least for the first 30 or so hours felt so alive. RDR was incredibly immersive for me because I can't recall playing a similar game of the same style or time period that made me feel like I was actually that character. It was fantastic and they did a great job with it.
 
While it was far from perfect, I'd go with Mass Effect.

It was really the closest thing that I've played to a fully realized Star Trek game. Sure, most of the planets were barren and boring, but I could explore every inch of them if I wanted. I could go and explore the moon or fight Geth on some random planet. And there were truly incredible locations that I could just get lost in (primarily the Citadel). It really felt like I was exploring (albeit, just a fraction of) some vast, incredible universe.
 
Oblivion, Fallout 3, Skyrim and Bioshock.

Yeah, I know. Pretty heavy Bethesda bias there, save for the last one. To my mind nobody else makes games quite like them. I'm an 'ESAK', if anyone here is familiar with the Bartle test, and that goes some way to explain why Bethesda's games work for me. I don't need plot devices or the heavy hand of a developer pushing me around forcing me to look at stuff. In fact, that makes me uncomfortable. Let me off the leash and let me do whatever I want, in the order I want to do it.
 
Mass effect is pretty imersive. Havnt played much skyrim yet as far as imersion in worlds go i think the first person mod for GTA4 is fantastic, the city looks great at night in first person.

The atmosphere is so thick I can almost taste the grit on my teeth.

Its difficult to counter your incredibly condescending post.

In the first week of playing Minecraft, a lot of things happened. I felt a solitary, one-person-versus-the-whole-world feeling that bettered even Super Metroid's legendary sense of isolation. I discovered that beyond every mountain and sea there was an organic sprawl of land, to be survived and conquered. The explorations underground, in the vast dark caverns leading to the bottom of the world, are some of the most tense and absorbing moments I've ever encountered in a game - rather than the superficial shocks of this generations supposed horror games, Minecraft channels the sustained sense of danger and dread to a degree only equalled by the great System Shock 2.

The entire industry has gone for over-designed environments that are calculated to death. Minecraft counters this with its wonderful, procedural chaos.

Tell me Riposte, what is so hilarious about this?

My opinion: Its the most immersive game of this generation, by far. Hell, its probably the most immersive game I've ever played.

If you are unable to enjoy it, well that's more unfortunate than hysterical.
