One of the best games I've ever experienced as a kid who didn't know games can involve such pure puzzle solving mechanics. From the Motel level to the memorable Garden of Eden-esque level where you have to solve a jigsaw puzzle!
I never completed the game because I was too young to figure out how! Maybe this year I'll make an LTTP for it
Rock 'n' Roll Racing SNES, it still holds up today, and why it wasn't on the SNES mini is anybody's guess.
Jackal for the NES.
It's like Ikari Warriors but you're a Jeep, and it has co-op.
Rain World!!!
Its also on steam and ps 4
Please play this fucking game!!!
Two immediately come to mind, though Enslaved has gotten more attention lately, it kind of fell on it's face at launch.
Majin and The Forsaken Kingdom. Really fun action/platformer where you and a monster work your way towards freedom. You control the protagonist Tepeu, but only give directions to the Majin Teotl (similar to Last Guardian, but with more precision). I loved the art style of the game, and really enjoyed Tepeu and Teotl's inteactions.
Enslaved. An excellent take on Journey to the West. It was fun to play with a good traversal system and combat. Voice acting was really well done. I actually cared about the characters and their relationships. I would kill for a sequel to this game.
Recently discovered Arx Fatalis and I love that game, yo.Arx Fatalis, uhm, Ground Control, uhm, Lumines Block Challenge (psp), uhm, Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast, uhm, TES 5 Oblivion, uhm... Operation Flashpoint, uhm.. Metroid Prime, uhm, Stick Soldiers... I'll give up there.
Arx Fatalis for sure.
When you say Death Gate do you mean the Weiss Hickman series? Because that sounds awesome!
Yeah, i mean, Oblivion was a joke.. i think ground control seriously needs to get a tsunami of appreciation for how it directly influenced every 3d rts from world in conflict to deserts of karak and beyond, not enough people pay it lip service... JkII and Metroid Prime I'm really just trying to stand up for games with sequels/spiritual successors (Fallen Order and 3 other MP titles, respectively) which consequently might not get thought about anymore... Stick Soldiers was a browser game/usb game in the early 00s I'm sure that one at least is legit obscure, at least to later generations.Recently discovered Arx Fatalis and I love that game, yo.
Great suggestions but those games are hardly obscure.
I hear the combat is janky?Greedfall. Amazing game. Spiders studio could be the next Bioware as long as EA does not get their greedy hands on them. The current Bioware is a shadow of its former self thanks to EA.
I would love to see it in a high quality TV show.Yeah that's the one. It's the perfect world for an RPG, but unfortunately paying for the licence to worlds is an unattractive move for most companies. It would be a great follow up to Game of Thrones for streaming companies too...
One of the most immersive games I've ever played thanks to an old roomie who knew how to read different Japanese scripts and a list we saw on Gamefaqs.
Hungry Ghosts is a lot like King's Field IV (or a first person Dark Souls 1 if you're unfamiliar with the KF series) if it was an open ended survival horror game focused on puzzles and exploration instead of combat (present in sparse amounts). It isn't a perfect game by any means but a damn fine one if you can dig in and definitely one of the most atmospheric games available on the PS2--though most of that atmosphere can be attributed to amazing monster designs that approach BB levels of quality.
Cons: Controls can be unwieldy, mainly because you use the right stick to perform actions and attack while L1+LS is used to look. Some actions can take more time than you'd like as a result but it adds to the immersion
Menus can be too cluttered
A few guide dang it moments
So basically King's Field IV mixed with Amnesia/Penumbra.
I hear the combat is janky?
Wow, did a quick search of the guy and saw the amazing list of games that he directed. Thanks for the info tidbit.Amazing game... as curiosity It was designed by Tokuro Fujiwara creator of Ghost 'n Goblins.
Obscure
LSD for PSX and Parodius ... and Tetris Effect on PS4/VR and PC. I can't believe this game is not at the top of every GOTY lists.names please
Not sure how unknown this is, but a lot of gaming circles I have been in have never known about this gem.
