What is the General Consensus on Battlefield 1?

Couldn't for the life of me getting into this game. Just found the majority of maps dull, the weaponry a bore (no fault of its own), the progress system seemed broken, nothing grabbed me.

Not a patch on 3 and 4.

BF1 has 83,556 players online right now on PS4, Battlefield 4 has 21,847 on PS4, so I assume the general consensus is BF1 is fun and doesn't seem like it will slow down so much as Hardline (which I actually really like).

I can't help but feel that it isn't as good as 4.

Personally I put it on the same level as Hardline, which.... isn't good.
Actually, thinking about it. I had more fun in Hardline than BF1...

Really soured me on the franchise and if the next game will be in the same vein, I'm going to pass on it for the first time since BC2.

Thought that the simplification of just about everything might bring it back to the fun levels of Bad Company, but instead it made the sandbox the least diverse of any BF I've played.
Tons of matches play out the same way and everything is so predictable.
Not to mention the extreme noob friendliness that instead of being inviting to new players while teaching them the basics, is just off-putting.

Got the vibe that it was pretty much Battlefront with a Battlefield coat of paint and I decided to give the game a try anyway, hoping first impressions were wrong.
Wish I passed on it completely.

I like it but it's hard as fuck. You get shot from every direction at all times. The weapon progression leaves a lot to be desired too. I can't tell the difference between any of the guns. Doesn't help that they all have very similar names. I guess that's how war should be? It has some amazing graphics though. I have a hard time playing it cause I just stare at it a lot (the dlc map that's on fire is unreal) Still, I enjoyed BF4 a lot more.

And I had a match last week of rush where we actually came back and won. It was pretty exhilarating.

Some great quality of life changes but the game itself pales compared to Bf4/BFBC2 just in terms of pure fun

Very little verticality and destruction in maps, nowhere near enough weapons or weapon variety, slow progression, some really bad map design in some otherwise decent maps, fog was a dumb weather choice, vehicles are either useless or very much over powered.Time to kill is also quite high with weaker weapons.

Even with all that it's still good, but I would still choose BF4 over it, but then again I love Bf4

Too casual, too fast, bring back BF2 and BC2's more weighty gameplay.

But you never listen DICE and that's because fucking EA wants to appeal to the CoD crowd too.

You completely ruined the BF franchise now.

You are losing even the most hardcore Battlefield players now just because you want to be too much like Call of Duty.

I bought it on sale a few weeks ago and as an above poster said, it hits me like Hardline did. I enjoyed BF4 much, much more and hope for more in the next sequel. Those vehicles are indeed a chore, but I'll give it a bit more time and see if I can acclimate.

Does anyone have any good beginner guides? It's been a while since I played battlefield? And I jump in and just get destroyed it seems like or die in like two seconds

Tried over and over to get into it, but just ended up being turned off to the whole franchise. Spending all my time in Overwatch now when I barely played any other online shooters after BF2 released. Hoping the next one isn't so boring.

IMO, it's solid, but it has never once felt as emergent and chaotic to me as your average BF4 match. YMMV but that makes it worse in my book.
I've never played a single match in BF1 that was as exciting as any BF4 match I ever played in Guilin Peaks

Among my friends that's the general consensus but that's pretty anecdotal

It's one of my favorites battlefield games. I like it a lot. My only issue is the stupid paywall dlc. Atleast dice is learning from it and is trying to allow non-premium players to play the dlc. hopefully the next battlefield game will completely remove premium.

I'm in the minority who hasn't been happy with Battlefield since BF2.

Ok? The OP asked for a consensus. It's pretty well received in general, the consensus is in no way that it's "terrible."

The only really bad thing is the DLC policy, which seems to be somewhat splitting up the base. But it seems like this will be the last EA game to offer this kind of DLC and there are still plenty of people playing (on PC) last I checked.

It's just a reskinned BF4. It doesn't play like you'd expect a period game to play, it doesn't even play like a WW2 game. No Battlefield recently has surpassed Battlefield 1943.

General consensus has been overall positive last I checked, but I also haven't followed it closely for a month now. Maybe Dice and EA have caused a raging fire in that time? Don't think so, though.

By the way, why is it so hard for some of you to answer a question honestly? They didn't ask for your youtube-level commentary/opinion, but the consensus.

General Consensus that ive seen: It's ok. Not great . DLC is too spread out . Operations is awesome. Not enough unlocks. Graphics are awesome

Personally It's my 2nd least favorite BF after Hardline.

Don't listen to this guy.

BF1 is great. Operations are fantastic.

Legitimately awful post. Because BF4 is amazing and BF1 is good just different.

Terrible first post.

Great game held back by the premium model they are stuck with. I still play it at least a few times a week on PC and as long as I don't play operations it's not hard to find a game.

As a series veteran I disagree, these games have fallen from grace. DICE is a sham, Battlefront is fucking awful.

When your best entries are still the original games, and a contention to BC2 because it was legitimately good it just needed bigger maps and jets, and fucking prone.

BF3 they lied about so much shit, they toned destruction down to the point that it might as well be a non feature. BF4 I don't even want to go into what a fucking shitfest that game was from Alpha to release. Like holy fucking shit. The only good maps are in the last three DLCs.

BF1 is awful. It's not different, except that everything has an inaccurate as fuck pseudo WW1 veneer, and it still feels like BF4 with clunkier weapons. It looks pretty, that is about it.

It didn't really do it for me. Thought that the last DLC for BF4 was really really good so I had high expectations. But I just don't really feel the ww1 thing.

BF1 is kinda what I expected Battlefront 1 to be.

It seemed very good but the Titanfall 2 came out and I haven't played it since. After finally burning out on TF2 a few months ago, I still haven't gotten the urge to hop back in. It feels like it's missing that special something though.

I thought it was pretty fun but the rewards were too grindy, and the single player was forgettable. I stopped playing when the first expansion came out.

The game is good in many ways (better than the previous one for example) BUT the lack of weapons due to the period, the lack of possibilities due to the same principle and a better campaign but not too good makes it feel a lost opportunity to me. Also, the premium model doesn't help at all. With all this said I like and enjoy the game more than BF4 but I miss some things.

I can't help but feel that it isn't as good as 4.
I'm with you. I bought a PS4 at launch just to play BF4. I loved it. I was expecting BF1 to be the second coming. I bought it at launch, played for a week, put it in the box, never touched it again.

I don't know, the only thing good about BF1 are it's grahics. A I don't even like them so much. To me, BF4 is leagues better. I hope we get a true Battlefield in 2018.

Love the graphics and like the maps, but that's about it.

It's less fun, less emergent.

I haven't saved a gameplay video from BF1 yet, while I have dozens of BF4 vids.

It was a nice change compared to BF4, especially in the "oh no everyone on my team is awful at planes/vehicles so we are getting obliterated by everything possible" with the WW1 weaponry. The weapon progression was short and not impressive, only a couple guns per class were worthwhile, and even taking the previous sentence into account, it's really hard to take out a vehicle unless you are in another vehicle.

Overall a good game, but I felt like I had seen all the game had to offer much faster than I did in BF4.

do you have any fucking idea what a general consensus is

Probably my least liked and played battlefield. Rounds feel like an eternity. DICE seems hellbent on being a super casual spectacle. All you hear these days about battlefield is sound this and graphics that. I miss the slower paced BF2 and BC2. Those games felt right to me and not a pointless effort to peel away COD players with faster gameplay that makes killing other players meaningless. I don't get excited playing it. It just feels like you are in a big killbox and everyone is the winner.

I really enjoy it. But not as much as 4 and 3.

Weapon variety/customization is one reason I believe.

I also am not a fan of vehicle spawns, although I appreciate not being strafed by a jet before I get to take off. That's bogus.
