What is the General Consensus on Battlefield 1?

It's at a point now where I enjoy it but there are still some obvious issues that hurt the fun of the game.

1) Behemoths. Bad idea. Yeah, reward the winning team by giving the other team a crutch. Makes sense.

2) Elite kits. Kills the purity of infantry combat, and in the smaller modes they are basically instant-win pickups if you're good. If I pick up a perosa I'm guaranteed to finish the game like 30-0 and win. I believe I once read a dev stating that the stats show the perosa kit in terms of kills/deaths is as powerful as a tank lol.

3) Bayonet charge. Lowers the skill floor too much. Fun to use but not fun to die to.

4) Sweet spot sniper mechanics. Now snipers are just a spam class. No need to get headshots for the average player. Zzz.

5) Fog. Yeah ok it looks nice in a trailer and it's cool the first time you see it in-game. Gets boring fast though. Being able to see is pretty underrated.

Other than that it's alright. DICE clearly didn't want all guns to be good at all ranges, they sort of forced guns/kits into specific roles and optimal ranges. I've warmed up to that after hating it at launch.

I don't know what the general consensus is but I think it's great. It's Battlefield in WW1, you either get it or you don't, the series is not for everyone.

Don't play it as regularly as I used to (its usually my weekend game) but still love it when i do. Nothing else comes close to a decent war experience on console than this for me

I almost never think to play it. But when I do, I usually have a great time with it.

The thing that stops me jumping into it more are the load times and the fact you have to run or drive to the action, so we are talking about a long time to really get into a game and I have precious little downtime.

In lots of other shooters I play, within one minute of firing up the game, I can be in the thick of action. That's usually what I want out of a game and Battlefield isn't like that.

Also it's a shame they kept the Premium model for what might be one of the most interesting Battlefield's in a while and only a year later Battlefront 2 comes with a fresh new take just giving us the maps. Wish they started that trend with BF1.

I think it's great. The mechanics are solid, I enjoy the more focused roles of each class, and it's all presented in a great looking package.

Are there modes where people stick together more?.

I feel like everyone just runs around like chickens with their heads cut off.

There's no "General Consensus" (why the caps?) since you can't cast any votes or precise opinion of a representative sample of the players.

People have different opinions, can't disagree on the reasons why they like or dislike the game etc. You should stop asking for a "General Consensus". Instead, ask for the diverity of contentious opinions (who can't form a "General Consensus").

Usually, if a game is successful, it well like by many, thus forming a general consensus.
NeoGAF is a much more particular bunch.

However, if you feel like actually adding something to the thread, feel free to come back later.

it's the only game I play

Frontlines is a game mode that tries to force this, as there's only one objective and there's no benefit to people skirting around it (in fact, I think the game area restricts it) but to really have people sticking together you need a squad/platoon and headsets and coordinate it manually.

Does hardcore mode tend to make people stick with allies better?

It's a fun and addicting game, but doesn't have the longevity of previous Battlefield games.

The player base drop much faster than BF3 & BF4. The hardcore BF community kept talking about how the game gets boring and repetitive much faster than BF4 and even Hardline.

For me, I feel like it's a great game that doesn't offer a lot of depth. It's fun for about one or two month. Eventually I just sold the game.

I used to play Battlefield 3 with a lot of friends, all the time...

Battlefield 1 is very beautiful, but I since I haven't been able to team up with any friends (because they all play PUBG or something), I just can't experience the same fun.

Maps are pretty bad overall.
