What is the most underappreciated game this generation ?

Bam. SG was too good for all of you.

Also quake wars.

I already mentioned Crackdown back in November and I'll add PGR4 now. Such a great game with amazing graphics and locales. I won't offer my opinion on PGR4's graphics in comparison to other racers; that's a bit too controversial ;)

The Godfather: Blackhand Edition on Wii.

Showed that motion controls cannot only work in 3rd person action games, but that they can also elevate an otherwise average game to another level.

The biggest crime this gen is that The Godfather 2 isn't being released on the Wii.

Shadowrun
Excitetruck
Test Drive Unlimited
Just Cause
Army of Two
Prince of Persia Rival Swords (Wii)
SSX Blur
Too Human
Battlefield Bad Company

Warhawk and Motorstorm- Pacific Rift. Warhawk is the best online game I've ever played but I can undestand why it didn't set the world on fire, it's a bit different. But MSPR seems to be inexplicably unpopular.

this is the only correct answer, I can't believe people are listing games that sold over a million
like the poster below me

Super MArio Galaxy.

No matter how much it sells or how much people love this game. There's nothing good enough for this perfection.

Lumines
-My favorite puzzler, and maybe my favorite portable game ever. The gameplay is addictive, music and presentation really make the game though. Still the zenith of Q! games IMO.

The World Ends With You
-Best handheld RPG, bar none. A story no one would expect out of a JRPG, a fun battle system, and a great visual style.

Company of Heroes
-THIS IS THE BEST RTS EVER MADE. And it's a shame that it didn't sell the way it should have. While it's not 100% realistic by any stretch, nearly every single thing I've thought of wanting to do in previous RTS', I could do it in CoH.

Too Human.

Yeah, I said it. At $20 (used) its a damn fine console hack and slash with some nice depth, trippy world, and *fuck-awesome* combat once you take the time to figure out how everything works.

I got it about a week ago on a lark, and since then I've clocked a nutso amount of hours with the thing. Its damn good fun.

Valkyria Chronicles
Motorstorm: Pacific Rift
Sega Rally Revo

Sonic Unleashed and Lost Odyssey deserve no love. Imho of course :P.

In my original post I stated that Kameo was my choice for the most under appreciated game this generation, now though I'm leaning towards Valkyrie Chronicles, it's sad to think that VC is probably one of the best critically acclaimed RPG's this generation and yet practically nobody has brought it :-(.

I'll go with Shadowrun. Without a doubt the best mulitplayer FPS I have played in years. The game got shit on since it was MS's pet for their PC-Console shit. And people threw out the notion is could be decent.

Turned out it was fantastic in all regards. I can't think of a game with better balance todate. No class ran the same speed, Had the same health/magic, special ability, etc. And how every power/tech had a fantastic use for it.

Like for instance, Gust. Gust if could break your fall if you timed it right, knock enemies off the ledge, Could use it as an extra boost with the glider, only thing that could affect a smoked character, knock grenades back at the enemy, and more.

Or how teleport complimented using the blade. A common tactic was to get a bull character. The more you shoot them, the less damage they take. They harden under constant fire. And then get the tree of health to constantly heal. But if you got behind them and hit them with the blade, they get a bleed out and it doesn't stop. So now they are forced to be by that tree at all times. They can't move around unless they can plant a new one. While at the same time if someone had the resurrection spell, They could heal the bleed. But that also leads to something about resurrection, where if the resurrector dies. Then anyone he rezzed will start to bleed out.

There was so much of this little stuff, yet everything was surprisingly well thought out and completely balanced. Not a single level was fantastic, Not a single gun was overpowered, and more.

Sam & Max Season 1 & 2

Telltale Games managed to revive the franchise, and people aren't shitting bricks? Shame on all of you.

Not the best game but definitely under appreciated. Heavenly Sword.. the story, the motion capture, the facial animations, the graphics, so much potential. A sequel that would have fixed its flaws would probably have been the perfect game. If nobody agrees with that then I guess Dead Space.

I agree with you. Its one of the few games I've played that just flat out stunned me again and again. Even the goddamn chapter select screen left me speechless.

Heavenly Sword is when next gen really started for me. Breathtaking.

It's hard for me to see 98% of what's in this thread as under appreciated.

I thought I was going to wow everyone with appreciating The Con, but someone actually mentioned it earlier.

The PSP is where interesting games go to die and derivative shit sort of flourishes, but this is one of the most interesting titles I've played this gen. Nothing like any other fighter, it's...maybe it's not even a fighter, it's a business/acting sim with fighting mechanics. Some generic bullshit scenery, some 1st wave psp optimizing stand in your way, but it's very inventive within common packaging. I only wish it were ported to PS2 so I could play it on my PS3.
