What is the wierdest thing Nintendo has ever done?

But it worked.

I still remember the days of this game taking on GTA IV. Good times.

Actually weirdest?

Standing up to Universal over Donkey Kong was fucking crazy. Like, any lawyer in the world would have told them to settle and they only won by Universal being dumb as shit.

Keeping Yokoi on the payroll while he worked for other companies, making it likely he was telling Nintendo about the hardware he was working on.

Iwata announcing that Gamecube production was halting temporarily. It was a pointless move and basically killed investor and third party confidence in the system for good (though I've heard more than one person suggest he was trying to Bernie Stolar the system).

....huh. man you're full of interesting info.
where else did Yokoi work, and i don't even remember the halting - and Stolar'ing the system is pulling the plug early, yeah?

I'm not sure what you are referencing.
Could you explain?

Problem wasn't Iwata announcing it but that they had to stop the production chain bacause GC missed the yearly target by half.

How about giving Sakamoto a sizable budget and a free hand to develop his first full fledged 3D console game, paired with.. Team Ninja? Such a weird mishmash of influences on that project. Don't get me wrong, Other M has its moments in spite of everything, but the iffy parts are so bad it's kind of a wonder no one stepped in to make a few course corrections or talk some sense into Sakamoto during development.

The Wii. Completely threw away the estabilished concept of console generations, and creamed the competition with it. Very cool move.

I've been sitting here trying to figure out what's so offensive about this post, post #23. Took ages before it dawned on me.

First time I've seen a poster just be *eradicated*, rather than simply banned.

Satellaview is telling you to STFU, troll. ;)

But speaking of.... having a 1st-party online service in the 16-bit era, even if it was only in Japan, was just..... BIZARRE.

Sega sort of did the same thing 5 years before Nintendo with the Sega Meganet. They even had downloadable games and online multiplayer in 1990.

It got some good reviews, if i remember it correctly. I wish i could play it.

well, the concept is bizarre enough to be intriguing but IMHO it was badly executed. I had a lot of issues with the mic: it didn't recognize my voice a lot of the time and even when it worked there was some lag imput between the vocal command and the response of my troops.

combine this with a really challenging difficulty level ad you have an almost unplayable game.

i mean... not only the game is hard as hell but that damned ball keeps slaughtering your own troops...
