What is with this "Exclusively for Prime Members" BS Amazon has been pulling lately?

They've started doing this more and more. Like, I can't even buy certain brands of toilet paper or body wash anymore...because only Prime members are apparently worthy of that.

New thread title: "Do you feel guilty for all of the benefits you pay for with an Amazon Prime membership?"

No guilt here!
I've been a member of Prime for years. One of my best purchases as it saves me a shitload on shipping and video games.

If there is an in-demand item and Amazon wants to save that for Prime members then that is their decision and I'll gladly consider the purchase.

If I wasn't a prime member then I'd just have Best Buy price match and move on.

Was gonna buy a DVD set some weeks ago, but they I couldn't since I don't have prime and there's no real value of getting prime since I don't live in a country that got amazon locally...

Isn't it possible to get bootlegs if you buy certain items though?

Anymore than anywhere else? I dunno.

But also another part of what makes "fulfilled by amazon" more or less == to "amazon" is that those items have the same return policy. If I have an issue with anything I just send it back.

Yeah, I don't really see what the problem is. You said it yourself, it's available for a comparable price elsewhere, so tell Amazon off with your wallet and get it elsewhere? They clearly do this to both entice you to subscribe to Prime and to make their current Prime subscriber-base feel smug with their subscription. Non-Prime customers are the minority of their customer-base now, it's really no wonder they short-change you at every opportunity.

I wish I could say that this is a limited problem, but I can probably count half a dozen times where I went to buy something and literally couldn't - at any price - because of this nonsense. I don't maintain a consistent Prime subscription so sometimes it's an issue and sometime it isn't.

Honestly, from my perspective I wouldn't have a problem if they made certain limited colours of the Dualshock 4 as a Prime exclusive. It's just that i take issue with the standard black controller being locked behind a subscription as if it's some kind of extra special item.

This strategy feels like it's designed to take options away from normal customers, rather than add value for Prime subscribers. The main benefit of Prime should be primarily faster and cheaper orders for heavy users, not arbitrary exclusivity on random items.

I probably spend ~$500 a year on amazon, so no I'm not dropping an extra $99 so I can get the privilege to buy something from them.

Sort of unrelated, but I'll post since I many don't know about the other things a Prime membership get you...

That $99 gets you a lot of other things though. Rush shipping, unlimited picture storage, free music (limited but there's a lot of good content), Amazon Prime Movies, Amazon Prime TV, access to a 5% cash back card (that gives you $70 Amazon dollars at sign up), early access to lightning deals, and a lot of other things.

My wife and I aren't big on memberships but Prime is a no brainer for us.

Had Prime for years.. so them reserving stock for us Prime members is something I like.
Seriously. Been a Prime member for four years now. We deserve benefits.

This guy is crazy, anyway. He claims to spend $500-$600 a year on Amazon. There's no reason not to have Prime.

I'm all in with Amazon, and A-OK with this. I buy all Christmas and Birthday presents from Amazon. I use Prime Now for emergency groceries. I'm subscribed for multiple household items that are sent to me regularly. I listen to Prime Music on my commute to work. I have access to good children's programming through Amazon Prime Video (including classic Reading Rainbow, which I love) and I'm considering Amazon Fresh now, since going to the supermarket with an almost toddler is an exercise in torture. Prime is super worth it, in my opinion.

Thankfully I had a free Prime trial available to me back in January when the Switch pre-order appeared for eight-tenths of a femtosecond. or I wouldn't have been able to get one.

But yeah, prime exclusive items is some bullshit, so thankfully most retailers price match amazon these days so I can get Amazon's price and not have to pay them $100 a year for the privilege.

I love the exclusive to prime member stuff for pre-orders. Makes it easier to get things. As a prime member I am fine with this as long as it's a good price. It's just like Costco really.

Don't think of it as them screwing you, think of it as giving Prime members priority on low stock items.

It's not that weird. If you want it, buy it elsewhere. It's a business.

Vote with your feet. It's the only way I can think of to effect change and I'm a Prime member (as is my wife... bizarrely). Of course, where your feet can take you is another matter.

LOL. You don't pay for Prime to secure prices. You pay for Prime for the million other things they give you.

Agreed. It's petty and dumb. Nobody's actually gaining anything.

I have Netflix and Hulu, so I don't need their video service. They already offer free shipping since my orders are typically over $35. I can't imagine what else Prime offers that I would need or want.

I have Netflix and Hulu too, but Amazon Prime has movies and shows that aren't offered on these services. Also, I like Amazon Prime because I save 5% on all my purchases there (through my Amazon card) and get free same day, 1-day and 2-day shipping (depending on the order). Really though, it's worth it to me, just for free 2-day shipping during the Christmas season.

I let my Amazon Prime membership lapse this year for the first time since around 2010. I'm kind of annoyed with Amazon's practices and would rather just buy from Jet, Target, Best Buy etc. when I can, or the times I do buy from Amazon, just wait until I have $35 worth of stuff for their slow-ass free shipping.

I've totally stopped buying from Amazon months ago once I found that Walmart and Jet.com offered similar or cheaper prices on a lot of items. I haven't been back and reading this kind of stuff I'm glad.

Walmart.com is better than Amazon these days. 2 day shipping on $35, no required number of "pantry" items to get free shipping, and 99% the same prices as Amazon.

Had Prime for years. Decided not to use it anymore. Without it though, Amazon is pretty awful. It's a club, it should be treated like Costco or what have you.

Subscribe & Save though is still legit and so are their Warehouse deals on consoles and the like if you have the patience. No Prime required, for now.

Will pick up a monthly sub during the holidays.

Most new movie releases also come with "instant watch" digital copies thanks to them owning VUDU.

I use walmart.com a lot more now that they have free 2 day shipping on orders over $35. Otherwise I use Amazon.

Prime is SO worth it. I've had it for almost as long as they have. No concerns here! Their streaming service is just, like, the icing on a delicious cake.

I feel like I'd be more compelled to be a Prime subscriber if their full slate of features was available where I live (Prime Now, Lockers, etc.)

Walmart.com has no where near the content on Amazon, especially if you don't want to deal with 3rd party sellers.
