What is Your Definition of a Slut?

That's not equivalent to "slut". It's not said with near the amount of scorn.

As far as I know, there is no male-specific term that is used so harshly against an individual's sexuality as those gendered to women.

As I said, its the version of slut for men. Since anything anyone can go on is personal experience, I've been told "Ewww I heard you were a player!" And that was it. I didn't get any points, and it ruined me for the rest of the night, as the more drunk she became, the more she let it be known to anyone she would see me getting my claws into.

Now, this isn't an isolated incident. Getting called a player by your boys, much like being called a slut by your girlfriends, is different. When people of the opposite sex, or non friends, call you one, its not a term of endearment. Men don't have the 10000's of years of oppression that women have to deal with, so there will never be an identical term. But the outcome from being labeled a player is undeniably similar. Women don't fist bump when they find out you're a player. When they hear you're a player, there is a look on their face as if they've eaten a bad oyster.

Women are going to be less likely to pursue a known player, as a guy might not want to pursue anything serious with a slut.

See those girls on Maury who sleep with guys for hamburgers and other shit: those I consider sluts. They'd sleep with anyone for things. I don't what is worst being called a ho or a slut.

The Slut Pride parade/protest was interesting because it was the first time women saw to own the word by embracing its context and essentially turning it an irrelevance, a "Ok, I'm a slut, so what?". Normally the attitude is reactionary - one to find offense at the context behind the term.

So the question isn't so much as what constitutes as a "slut" but rather why its a derogative. I mentioned the Slut Pride protest earlier. Listen to this interview with one of its organises responding to, firstly the background story of the cop who made the slut comment, and then later on her commentary on society as a whole.

When Beccy refers to “a culture” in her interview, she is in reality remarking about the underlying perceived sexual prejudice society has in regards to the role of women compared to men. Part of the reason why Sanguinetti’s (that police officer) comments gained such reaction was not necessarily the content but also his use of the word ‘slut’. In the debate of social attitudes towards sex, promiscuity amongst women is generally frowned upon if not condemned and ridiculed. Although not every woman will agree on the acceptability of casual sexuality, I think what all women would be united in, and are in this case, is in recognising the hypocrisy within society; promiscuity amongst men are not only accepted but in some circles heralded as masculine.

Helen E. Fisher, PhD, professor of anthropology at Rutgers University and author of First Sex: The Natural Talents of Women reasons there are differences between the two genders. “Why should they have desires in common? Men and women are very different creatures,”. Men, she adds, already know that they need to appear fit and socially powerful to attract a mate and women certainly know what attracts men. ”Men are looking for youth and beauty in the short term — women really do know this,” Fisher says. “They do try to look young and pretty. It is remarkable how the makeup and clothing industry constantly plays on this. Makeup makes the face clearer, the eyes bigger, the lips more baby-like red, the hair the sweet light colour of youth. Clothing, too: The belts and things that show off the waist-to-hip ratio, the tight blue jeans and shirts that mould the figure. Both sexes always know these things.”

However, David P. Schmitt, PhD, who led the research project titled “Universal Sex Differences in the Desire for Sexual Variety: Tests From 52 Nations, 6 Continents, and 13 Island”, explains that “Both men and women show signs of being programmed to be monogamous in a certain way and promiscuous in a certain way”.

But irrespective of the above, it does not change the fact that the sexuality of women is judged through a different prism to that of men; the male variation of ‘slut’ being ‘stud’. It's worth adding also that the veracity surrounding the term doesn't come from just from the men's only club, but also echoed by many women. This is quite obviously a consequence of a bigger underlying topic than purely sex; this stems from morality

I think slut is used in a derogative matter as opposed to player since men are typically the ones chasing women. Men in general will have a harder time having sex with women, than vice-versa. Which is why being a player might be seen as an compliment for some since it takes effort. A women doesn't have to put as much effort to convince a men to sleep with them. Especially if they are good looking.

Now the question is why is this behaviour seen as bad? I don't know. Maybe it's a bit of instincts mixed with social pressures from religion.

Slut is too broad a term.

Oh wait puns in there

Slut is too non-specific for me to find use for it. It doesn't even make a judgement quality for certain. Unlike a word like "that girl is trouble." Slut can be like, "she's a slut" or "I wouldn't touch that slut" or "she's my little slut". Each of these three have different judgements of character involved. The first example being somewhat benign in this day, the second being a rejection of the person and the third an admiration.

That's why a girl you know who continually tells herself "I gotta stop ending up in some strange guy's bed" and then meets your friend, gets drunk and fucks him that same night is "trouble". I could say she's a slut, but that doesn't really get anywhere. Trouble works much better. You wouldn't trust her in a relationship, you worry where she'd get you in a bad situation and you know she can't stick to what she says. Slut doesn't really encompass these greater issues that a guy is thinking about.

because they are, by definition, not sluts.

BY DEFINITION Chaucer used "sluttish" in reference to a man, so BY DEFINITION the word can apply to whoever you want. The way it's used is a female pejorative like "bitch," and just like "bitch," if it's used to refer to a man, it carries a connotation of femininity, as if that's just as much of an insult.

I think an underlining theme that people don't mention often is the fact that it's a lot easier for a woman to have sex with a man than the other way around (in terms of just going up to someone and asking if they wanted to have sex). Guys are probably jealous at this and decide to shit on women who are promiscuous because they secretly want to do the same but don't have the looks/confidence etc. to do so when it comes to getting women.

But most guys are probably just dicks and want women to be their own caged perfect mistress that no one else should have.

I wonder how far people are willing to go with this discussion though. Like would people also be okay with their 17 year old daughter having sex with a new guy every day/week? What about porn stars do you feel they shouldn't be demonized etc. and so on. I remember there was a topic about the latter asking if you would date a porn star and that was discussed in great length.

Well, there is the increased risk of diseases, but that's not why women are called sluts. Because otherwise men would be called sluts too.

The reason is because it is taboo for a woman to be sexually free, or to give up her affections easily. A woman is not supposed to have sex for pleasure, like a man is allowed to. She is only supposed to have sex in a committed relationship with a man that she loves.

Also, love how butt-hurt sportsGAF is.

Why can't men be sluts?

Remember "slut" isn't so much about a woman who enjoys sex but rather that women who enjoy it as much (and seek it) being a negative. The pursuit of sex for men isn't considered atypical - this is based on a belief that lust is a symptom of XY, that men are inherently more driven by their desires than women. By extension of that, men whom are popular with women (by that I mean have slept with many) are admired and envied because of the perception they have conquered (or achieved) a feat; that feat being convincing several women to sleep with him when they were supposedly naturally less inclined to.

A similar although less incendiary label is "easy".

It really comes down to what we culturally have as gender roles, when a group breaks away from the established morals they are frowned upon. For example, during war drafts, men who were afraid to go to war and dying were ridiculed, pressured and mocked simply because a man is not expected to be cowardly or walk away from fights. The latter sentiment is still there in schools.

Anotherwords, it's used by largely ignorant people.

Isn't butthurt bannable?

Slut to me is a girl that is sexual just to get attention, or to get things. A girl that is careless, and doesn't value what she has. I would also call slut someone that is in a relationship, but still sleeps or fools around.

Finally, I have the image of a slut as a that girl that goes to the bathroom in school and blows like 5 guys, but then again, I would have loved to do that with 5 girls. I could be considered a slut I guess, but I rather subscribe to the term manwhore.

No, just surprised you'd use such a word that offends a particular group of people. A group that faces persecution throughout our country. A word that is seen by many as derogatory.

What group is that, pray tell, my good sir, oh my most excellent sir?

My sir of sirs. My sir of 1,000 sirs.

On Google Images this one popped up as the 5th result:

So, I guess that solves it.

Hottest girls on the dance floor. The ones dancing with their friends, and wearing the least clothing (comparatively, a guys who wore no shirt to go to parties is just a douchebag, so this is the fair part of the definition).

They also sleep with a lot of people. Why doesn't that draw equal ire for men?

Well (and please, correct me if I'm wrong, because I don't intend to be offensive), it's because it's significantly easier for a woman to have sex than a man. Significantly. Hell, I had some female friends talking about it a while back, about how easy it is to get laid. To get laid as a man, it requires a bit more finesse, and skill. As my friends have said - if you want to get laid as a woman, just show interest. That's all it is. And it takes much more for guys.

So a woman who puts herself way out there sexually is usually described as a slut, because it's that easy. A super attractive woman, despite other things, is significantly more likely to have had sex than an attractive guy. Men have to put themselves out there. Women just choose among the people that comes to them.

That's also why I wouldn't describe an attractive woman who makes moves for the guys she wants a slut.

But "slut" is contextually a derogatory term. What's wrong with enjoying sex and wanting to have a lot of it, if you're safe and not hurting anyone?

I disagree with this entirely. Again, think of the relationship between guys and girls when pursuing sex. Attractive woman can literally sit in a corner and people will come to them. Random attractive guy is still expected to pursue. So when one gets a lot of sex, one has to try harder than the other in general.

Or that's imo, anyways.

Makes no sense. Because a woman has a much easier time acquiring sex, that means that she should not want to have sex as much? She should repress those urges instead of acting on them, as a man would?

Sorry Time but until I understand how you will tear my post apart I dont see the purpose for answering your previous question.
LOL, more dodging. Cool beans.

Can't tear apart your answer until you give me your answer. Right now I'm making a pretty informed assumption about what your answer will be, but I could be wrong. I'll restate the question in case you're confused, as you seem to be.

What group is it you're referring to that would be offended by what I said?

The most popular definition is a woman who sleeps around with a lot of men.

But a man who does the same thing with women is called a player. In my eyes, he is no different than her.

Sounds like a woman being able to acquire sex easier is not their problem. Women shouldn't be vilified simply because men will have sex with them.

Well, my purpose was explaining it, and how it could work differently for men and women without necessarily being sexist.

But it's like someone who's inherited money from rich parents, and someone who has to work hard for everything they get. Many, MANY people would be inclined to insult the rich person, without knowing anything about them, just because it's so easy for them to get what they want. And then they praise the hard worker. This is an example where sex isn't even brought into the equation, and you can already see how this works.

Then we can pose your question - what's wrong with buying the things that you can afford, and wanting to have a lot of enjoyable things, if you're in financially good shape and not hurting anyone?

Absolutely nothing. But it isn't simply a sex issue.

Question: What are the qualifications for a girl being called "easy"? One who requires less work to get into bed.

Many (most) guys are by definition easy, but they have to work harder themselves to achieve the same results as women.
