What is Your Definition of a Slut?

Unless you're in a committed relationship, do whatever the fuck you want. Can't get mad if people judge you for it though, it's human nature.

That's your definition of slut. There are men who want women with a limited number of sexual partners and get put off beyond a certain number.
Isn't this entire thread predicated on the question: "What is your definition of a slut?"

If you wanted to discuss why men get put off by promiscuous women and insult them with negative words such as "slut" or "whore" than you should have aptly made it clear in your thread title and opening post.

Sexually liberated self respecting women don't look to you for what they can and cannot do. If you want to avert your eyes than do so, but don't label them as sluts just because you think they're showing their belly-button or are flirtatious.
You've mistaken my post if you think my criteria for "sluttiness" is simply being flirtatious or showing off your belly-button.

It's a word that, in my experience* at least, women use against other women way more than men do.

*Facebook

As for the definition, well I only ever use the word completely out of context, or to emphasize over indulgence in anything except for sex. I've never called anyone a slut for sleeping around.

Discussions morph, and now we're talking about it, deal.

It's not fashionable to talk latent biology but the fact is: for 99% of human history a man's role has been to win the right to spread his personal DNA as widely as possible, where as a woman's was to choose the best DNA partner to nurture a family with.

The most recent 1% of human existence has seen a massive social shift where gender 'equality' has trumped everything else, so when we see women doing the male dance it feels counter intuitive.

That's not to say it's wrong, right, whatever. But you can't ignore millions of years of human evolution.

You're criteria for sluttiness is dependent on someones outward perception. You are the worst kind of offender when it comes to using the term. Without even speaking to the actual act of sex you are associating a woman with sexual negativity simply for how they dress and act.

How do you know this was the case, and not a situation like that of our closest primate relatives the chimps and bonobos where both males and females have multiple partners?

Never really used the word in any serious manner.

I jokingly use it to describe girls I want to have fun with, who aren't my girlfriend, to my girlfriend. She uses it the same.

Not sure that will make sense.

Personally, I'd say that a slut is someone who is proud of the fact that they regularly have indiscriminate, unprotected, sex with strangers they have no intention of having any kind of relationship with. A habitual one-night stander. It bothers me whether its dudes or girls.

1. Someone who is irresponsibly promiscuous

2. Someone who exploits their sexuality to advance an agenda

3. Someone who engages in sexual activity outside of an established mutually exclusive relationship

4. Someone who makes sexual advances on someone whom they know is in a mutually exclusive relationship

Pretty much this.

If they're being irresponsible about it and not using protection, exploiting people with sex, or going against pre-established agreements about their own or other people's relationships, then that's kind of slutty.

ANYTHING other than that is a-ok by me. Consenting adults can do whatever the hell they want at whatever frequency they want, and they won't be judged by me. And they shouldn't be judged by anyone.

Yeah, keep wishing for that.

I'd like you to elaborate on why a woman who has lots of sex doesn't have any self respect.

Please?

Yah im not trying to say that a women who has a lot of sex doesnt have self respect, I guess in a way you can tell who's a slut most of the time. We use the word to loosely now, all us girls always say "ugh shes such a slut".

Oh geez, I'll answer it for him so that both of you can stop the word games: gays.

Yes, what he was almost assuredly getting at but now refuses to cop to because he realizes what an idiotic comment it was.

1) If it was a reference to anal penetration, that is not an act that is inherently homosexual. The fact that he's attributing it to homosexuals and self-defining it as a derogatory term could be considered highly offensive, especially considering his use ( 1 2 ) of the term.

2) It's quite obviously a reference to physically attacked in the rear end (where the term "ass-kicking" comes from, spankings, etc). Y'know, like in EVERY OLD CARTOON EVER MADE when someone does something wrong, kicks kicked in the butt comically, then walks away holding their butt whimpering or muttering.

3) It's especially funny how many times he's quoted the term from other GAF'ers and not said a peep about it being bannable or offensive. Yet he decided to quote me when i used it because, well...he's butthurt.
KuGsj.gif

There you go, Cloving. Ripped. To. Shreds.

I don't believe I am all over the place. Just take a gander on the web and you'll find a few examples of people stating that 'butthurt' is in deed offensive. I could swear that on NeoGAF over the last few years I've seen the same being said. My point in this whole thing is that people are offended by words. The power isn't in the word itself. The same goes with slut. It's a freaking word and people have many definitions for it. Stop giving a word so much power if you have a problem with it in the first place.

I agree about the power not being in the word itself, you can say a word jokingly or not really mean in it's intended way. But there is also common usage of words. When we don't know someone we defer to common usage. That is why you never say a word that is overly offensive in public around people that you don't know. If my best friend calls me the N word jokingly, do you think I give a shit? Does not mean that I find it acceptable for random people to call me it.

What people are arguing in this thread is the acceptability of the common usage of the word.

Oh. My. God, Becky. Look at her butt.

Well you see, that's just it isn't it? They're "your criteria".
I understand your point, but I doubt you'd find many young men who are going to call women sluts simply for being flirtatious or showing off their belly buttons.

You're criteria for sluttiness is dependent on someones outward perception. You are the worst kind of offender when it comes to using the term. Without even speaking to the actual act of sex you are associating a woman with sexual negativity simply for how they dress and act.
That's because, to me, sluts aren't desirable sex partners.

I don't find their behavior, demeanor or look the least bit attractive.

Yeah, keep wishing for that.

I will keep wishing. I realize it's unrealistic, because people like to feel superior about pretty much anything. But really, why the fuck should I care about someone else's sex life? Why should I think they're slutty if they've had a lot? To me that smacks of a jealousy and superiority complex. As long as they're being responsible about it and using protection or getting tested and all that then what's the harm? They're not hurting you or me. Have fun, I say. Have a lot of fun! You've only got one life to live, so go live it. If sex makes you happy, go have it. No skin off my back. There are far worse things they could choose to be doing. They could be out causing trouble or hurting other people. But no, they're making love to one another? Why is that so bad?

Let's say your essentially right but where does the hostility come from? And don't men in fact fuck themselves over when they slut shame? They should strive for more sexually liberated women and then they shoot themselves in the fucking foot. And I'm not going to bother to get into the denizens of women that embrace our fucking pedestals and keep up the status quo of mother or whore.

You talk as if you are the ideal women. no offense I love you and everything but that's what that last sentence sounded like to me.

That's because, to me, sluts aren't desirable sex partners.

So you choose to use an offensive word because sexually powerful women intimidate you.

Sorry to put it so bluntly, but a woman can be unattractive to you without you having to insult them.

I agree with you. However being judgmental just seems to be human nature and I have no faith that that particular attribute will ever dwindle in any kind of noticeable way. So people either need to stop giving a fuck about the judgement of others or stop doing the things they're judged for if they care that much.

Yeah, judgement is a horrible part of human nature that we won't get rid of, but I think in time this particular kind of judgement will lessen and lessen. Maybe it won't ever disappear. Maybe it will. It'll probably be long after I'm dead when it does, though, so I shouldn't really worry about it, I guess. So, yeah you do need to stop giving a fuck about the judgements of others. That goes for almost everything you like in life. If you like it, do it. Fuck the people that want to judge you for it. You've got one life to live, so go live it on your own terms.

You can call the woman married with a healthy sex life and you can also call her a slut.

That's not to say she has to be married to not be a slut.

It is felt it was implied that by "has a lot of sex" i meant with a lot of partners. If that was unclear then sorry.

There's no point in continuing this discussion if you're going to consistently and willfully misinterpret my statements as attacks on sexually liberated women.

Sorry to put it so bluntly, but a woman can be unattractive to you without you having to insult them.
Women can be unattractive to me without insulting them, certainly, and I always try to refrain from insulting anybody (I've personally never called or referred to a woman as a slut for example)

However, this thread is asking for my personal definition of an inherently negative and insulting word; I don't expect to be denigrated for disclosing my opinion on the definition of said word.

That's almost all men, and not all of them use the word "slut" to describe women they think are promiscuous. Let's not kid around, even the most liberal of men have some kind of number or standard that they apply.

They might not use the term slut but it's implied in that kind of logic was my point whether expressly vocalized in a slur or not.

I did not start this thread, but the fact that you so willfully use such a derogatory word is astounding to me. In the worst way possible as well. Without any regard to the impact it has outside of whatever circle of influence you inhabit.

You are perfectly okay with describing a woman as a slut as a way to degrade them because of sexuality which helps to set back any kind of initiative to 'take back' the word as Steam has been espousing. You are the example that I was looking for to point to and say 'SEE!'.

Wait sorry... I'm still trying absorb what you're saying...

So you've never actually used the word, yet you define it so specifically?

I think we should strike the word 'slut' from the English language completely.
The word 'Strumpet' is just so much more effective.

I'd like to clear things with you and state that I never willfully choose to use the word slut outside of threads on internet forums where it's the focal point of discussion; I'm not sure where you got the idea that I do.

How you got that from that statement I have no idea.

"the denizens of women that embrace our pedastals"

What does that mean? what pedestals are so high yet so low you can let go and denizens of women can cling on?

"status quo of mother or whore"

I thought status quos change by the times.. But women have always been mothers. I don't really understand that.. You want women to not want to be moms?

You can perhaps regulate or discourage the use of a certain word but people's feelings, instincts, and preferences will always be their own. Men simply are territorial and posessive in that way and how much that can be controlled by culture or education is as yet unknown.

You're completely misunderstanding my point. I'm talking about women who hold onto sexist ideals that put our virginity and sexual monogamy on pedestals and slut-shame those who don't hold themselves to those standards. The dichotomy of mother or whore is still enforced against women by other women.

Certain behaviors curb a bit if people take a longer look at the language that reinforces such attitudes.
