what jrpg are you playing right now ?

Finished YS V.

Overall I'd say it was pretty mediocre. The best way I can describe the gameplay is as "a watered down Terranigma", it's really basic and the magic system may as well not have been there. I always been a fan of Ys storytelling (pre-Seven), but I felt this time the plot was took a nosedive once you get into the very last half.
Niena sucks

OST was excellent as usual of Falcom.

Started Lost Odyssey tonight. I HATE the MC design. He has a stupid looking face and WTF is he wearing?

So I thought I might hate it, but I'm actually really hooked. Still really early, just beat the first real boss, but I'm liking the skill linking, music, story (very little but what there is has been interesting).

And the 1000 years of dreams is pretty good too. It's too bad the translation is so awful, but the quality still comes through and several have given me goose bumps.

Etrian Odyssey 4 and Persona 3 FES.

On the former, Im at the third floor of the Misty Ravine, just starting. I think my party is a little overleveled since they are beating FOEs and random enemies without any problem.

Persona 3 on June right now. Just finished the boss of floor 59. That... creature was quite a pain.

Currently playing Lightning Returns on the 360. Man this game....

Persona 2 eternal punishment. I really hated how the first 2 hours felt exactly like innocent sin, but I'm growing to like it more and more.

Finished SMTIV and am a few hours into Dangan Ronpa with Bravely Default waiting in the wings. I love handheld JRPG gaming. I'm also enjoying having the free time to invest in these again now the kids have left for college.

Hmm...finished Innocent Sin PSP last summer and kind of hated it. I hear EP was much better, but keep updating as you play as I was really turned off.

Doing a low-level FF8 run. It's surprisingly fun. There's an up-front time commitment, but after that it's really enjoyable. Only a couple of times so far (about to go fight NORG) I've had to reset because I accidentally gained XP.

Nothing like having 3000 HP at level 7.

I picked up a Vita a couple of weeks ago, didn't much like Killzone Merc and Soul Sacrifice that I got with it so traded them back and got Ys Memories of Celceta. Does anyone use their Vita mostly for JRPGs? A couple of days ago I picked up Valkyria Chronicles 2 and Persona 4 Golden this afternoon, any suggestions of what else plays well on the Vita? I'm fine with PSone classics and PSP games from PSN.

Growlanser: WoT, Gungnir, Final Fantasy Tactics and Tactics Ogre are some examples of great TRPGs.

Regular rpgs, Legend of Heroes: TitS FC, Chrono Cross, Grandia, Suikoden are some great rpgs.

For action rpgs, I guess Dragon's Crown and Muramasa Rebirth works. I also like Legend of Mana.

Platinumed Nier, finally. Now doing a full playthrough of all Ys and Legend of Heroes games in order. Currently on Ys; The Oath of Falghana at the moment.

I'm playing Persona 4 Golden and Tales of Xillia right now. I won't be able to finish neither in time before Tales of Symphonia come out next week. :(

Final Fantasy VI. iOS. So güd.

I've been wanting to play FF6 for so long.. I've just told myself to play FF5 first.. but I stopped.

Currently playing FF3 on the Vita

I might have to replay this game doing the same thing. My current save is on Disc 2 at Fisherman Horizon. Been almost 2 years since I played. I probably need to refresh my memory.

Yeah, I have this bad habit of playing many RPG's at once.. then narrowing it down to 1.. then never playing the rest. All with the little time I only have..

Just starting Chapter 9 of Final Fantasy XIII. First time through. I'm looking forward to the game opening up relatively soon, and hopefully for more 3-party battles.

After that I'll continue Ni No Kuni, about eight hours in. From there, I'll start the vastly growing Tales of library I have in my collection.

Tales of the Tempest

I'm not very far in yet, but damn this game gets even the most basic things wrong. The menu is a complete mess, it's way too deep, a lot of stuff is done contrary to what you would expect from other Tales games, or other RPGs in general (like equipping involves first choosing the kind of equipment, then the character to equip to and then the specific equipment). There's other "minor" stuff, like not being able to turn the camera while walking on the world map, you have to stand still to do it. Etc. It's kind of strange, Tales usually have very nice menus, I don't know what went wrong here. This might become the first Tales game I don't like.

Why would you subject yourself to Tales of the Tempest. Even the fan translation readme straight up warns you it's a piece of shit.

...

I'm sure I'll play it at some point too.

Dragon's Dogma.

I have so little time to play these days that I have been working on it for months.

Starting on Hard was probably a mistake as a lot of early-game enemies could one-hit me. But I'm getting into the grove now and really enjoying it.

I switched from mage/sorcerer to strider for a while, and I have to say, the archery in this game is pretty rad.

None right now, but am eyeing Ni No Kuni very hard as the next game I play.

I love the game. The art is stunningly beautiful, especially the first time you hit the world map. I was in awe.

However, your party members AI is basically non-existent so you're stuck soloing most big fights because they make themselves useless pretty quick for the most part.

Edit: Forgot to post my game.

Have just started a new run on both Tales of Symphonia (GameCube version) and Final Fantasy 6 (slow-loading PSN version on Vita.)

Finally started Fire Emblem Awakening on 3DS. It's fun and will probably last me a while.

Also I've been thinking about getting the Zero no Kiseki Evolution plat before Ao comes out so I can carry over ~everything~

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story. Bought if for 15€ used, been enjoying it a lot. Game is fun, challenging and it seems to be pretty lengthy as well.

Grandia II.

No sense of adventure like the first Grandia, annoying lead characters, awful story and the text speed is Xenogears levels slow. It made me realize that no battle system can save an rpg for me if I hate everything else about it. Also happened with FF XIII.

Since it's supposed to be so short, I thought I might as well give it a try and it wasn't very expensive either. If it was the standard 40+ hours, I'd probably have skipped it.

I an playing Ni No Kuni and Tales of Xillia with my mom. We finished Kuni last night and now she is doing post game quests. So i have a question, what PS3 jrpg can you suggest me to buy for her to play, preferably with little combat and lots of exploration and side quests?

Don't know about little combat but if you enjoyed the progression in Ni no Kuni then you might take a look at White Knight Chronicles.

Didn't seem popular with the reviewers but I really enjoyed it. (can't say the same for WKC2...started but haven't gotten very far into it)

I'm playing Tales of Xillia now and having a blast. This was my first Tales game. I went out and bought Vesperia and preordered Symphonia Chronicles and Xillia 2.

Grandia II.

Don't bother with Grandia III then, haha.

Playing Tales of Graces f. Almost done with the story, doing side quests now.

The best thing about it is obviously the battle system. It's the first Tales game of the kind that I've played, and I really like it. It does get challenging too, for some reason I'm usually 10 levels below bosses.

For all I've heard about the story and characters being bad, I'm finding them simply bland for the most part. Not having that Tales token annoying kid character is a plus. It is also thanks to the skits, I suppose, they help shape out the characters pretty well. So overall, not really disappointed on that front.

What I liked least are music and dungeons. Music is just too simple and repetitive. Dungeons are actually also quite simple, but I don't mind that much without a map. Too many times I've ended up overleveled in a JRPG due to getting lost. However, besides being schematically simple, dungeons are unfortunately also visually nothing special and the whole package doesn't feel atmospheric at all.

Also replaying Final Fantasy XIII in small bits. It's quite boring, but knowing the story and the background makes it... a newish experience, I guess. I never mentally backtracked when I first played it to explain stuff to myself.

I'm currently playing megaman x command mission, suikoden tactics and a bit of soul nomad.

ff11 is also my mmorpg

It's my MMO too! I love it! Although in the summer I think I'm gonna give XIV a shot :).

And I'm also in the middle of replaying FF8.. Because I'm addicted to it o_o.

Just got P4G on the Vita. Haven't touched a JRPG since Final Fantasy 7 but seen all the great feedback on this site and decided to give it a go.

Absolutely. Actually, the original Grandia remains the best in the series.

Just finished Tales of Xillia... very meh ending. Thinking about picking up Ni No Kuni for 20 bucks... or building a PC and getting in on Everquest Next Landmark alpha.

I say go with Ni No Kuni since it's cheaper for a good amount of hours if you like it.

Currently playing FFIX, near the end of the third disc, in Terra about to meet Garland.

I recently stopped playing SMT: Strange Journey because it was really starting to drag on around the 4th zone. Did I make a mistake?

Just finished Tales of Vesperia. Probably should have spent more time exploring. Finished it just over 41 hrs but I feel like I missed a lot just after glancing over a few FAQs.
