I got back into Etrian Odyssey 3, which is terrible because my backlog won't stop.
It's not a JRPG but I want to play the whole P4A storymode, is it worth it?

Its fucking garbage. Its pretty much the same exact scenario for every character. I finally gave up after I did every story but Labrys.
I played P4A only for the story mode pretty recently. I found the overall story pretty decent, but it can be a drag. A lot of the individual stories rehash the same stuff. Still, I thought it was worth it.
I began Xenoblade yesterday.
The character models are hideous but the environments are fine for the Wii.
Dat music tho

I remember Coded Souls. I remember thinking the promo art looked good. Didn't someone note worthy work on it?
I just finished Ys Memories of Celceta. It was ok. I like Ys games because quite honestly they are pretty pick up in play. It's not like the combat is complex, it's just frantic. It's smooth and responsive so I can easily get into it. I kind of just ignored the story in this one and 7. Just not something I find really interesting.I did like the world and how all the parts of it didn't feel too copy and pasted. Though, I thought towards the end the game added a much un-needed deathblow thing that forces you to switch to Adol and thus kills the momentum of battle.
I've been playing Type-0 because of the Translation patch. Seems ok, though I think it suffers from the same problems XIII has. The story kind of just throws you into it without really explaining much. You aren't eased into anything, even the characters. The characters seem even more "teen anime" then usual, but then again I guess this is FF high school even though it's weirdly violent. The mace girl is obnoxiously cute and a obvious waifu character so I don't think I'll be using her.
I also have been playing Grand Knights History which is a very beautiful and classy jrpg.
I need to get back to The Last Ranker which really kind of feels like Lightning Returns the proto-type. It has a very similar battle system in how it's semi real time and you control one person. It even has a "break" mechanic.
But really I've just been playing a lot of FF14.
Thanks, this will help me keep my expectations low... not a fan of it being constant rehashing.
I'm not exactly sure what you mean by that. And yeah, it has nice and appealing artwork that's pretty unique!
The games you've been playing, if I try and play 3 RPGs at the same time it would be too much XD You're doing that and more.
Still playing FFX HD on the PS3. This time I managed to capture all monsters ten times and clear Omega dungeon including defeating Omega. What's left is 24 blitzball matches, grinding to fill up sphere grids, defeating dark aeons and monster arena bosses. It feels like after this point, the game is going to get more tedious. I'm not sure whether to do everything tbh.
There is a game with an old savefile that I decided to continue with. It's a 2008 game that was released in Japan only and sold around 2000 copies. I would be suprised if other gaffers played this game, it's Coded Soul: Uketsugareshi Idea.
My savefile is from 2010 and it had 12 hours on the clock. Fast forward about a week later, I've played the game for a total of 25 and am exploring the last dungeon.
It's basically a random generated dungeon crawler with monster collecting and an action RPG battle system . The monsters are from Folklore (PS3 exclusive)! The game has a unique take on its design decisions and mechanics, though it is also flawed and it was clearly made with a tight budget.
Its progression system is pretty addictive. The way you customize your weapons and monsters is done well. You fuse monsters with your weapons to make your weapons stronger and select which ability to pass on. The monsters themselves can learn new abilities through items and equip stat skills or skills that add effects as well. The game doesn't look bad and it doesn't sound bad either. It has a nice futuristic style to it and there is also a story that is voice acted pretty well, even though the story itself is one you've seen plenty of times before. I do like that even though the premise of the story is very predictable, it is about adults for the most part instead of kids. You have a time limit to explore dungeons but it's not as bad as it sounds because once you find orange teleport stations, you can continue where you left off and the time resets from that point forward. The teleport stations are spaced out pretty well, so I never really felt like time was much of an issue. Because the map becomes visible as you explore, it adds some nice tension and dynamic to reaching the next room.
That said the main character has a funny walking animation, he also walks slowly. I wish there was a run button somewhere. You also can't escape from battles (as far as I can tell) which can get annoying sometimes. There are like 5 or 6 dungeons in all with one main hub that acts as a town. The characters don't have a lot of animation or are visually expressive besides the 2D portraits.
It's a quirky game that despite not being all that great, it has some charm to it and I enjoy playing it. You don't have many of those kind of games being made anymore. You know, experimental RPGs with that kind of setting and not relying on t&a to sell a niche game.
Does anyone know if Remote Play (PS3->Vita) will let you change the resolution of PSone games? I have the Dragon Warrior 7 discs and I'd love to play it, but it's so stretched on the Vita screen it's just horrendous. I've tried to find an option to change it but I can't find it.
EDIT: Now that I think about it, I was only looking at holding down the PS button options, but I think you can hold down the touchscreen and get more, right?
Playing SMT: Nocturne. Currently at level 94 and grinding at ToK 3 with all 25 mag. trying to get a good team together for the final final boss for that special ending.
I'm working through Bravely Default on 3DS - and "working through" is the correct terminology. I'm currently on Chapter 8, since I didn't want to shortcut through to the end. Hoping to finish the game by the end of the day.
Such a promising game with such a fun job and battle system - completely ruined by the copy and paste nature of the later chapters. They should have cut about three chapters out of it; I got the "twist" of the game the first time it happened. The "remixes" that you encounter are fun, but could have been done much earlier in the game.
It has some key features I wish they included in more jRPG's: being able to set your encounter rate to whatever you want, no matter where you are, and useful job skills like "Obliterate" that make grinding painless and easy. But damn, they should have just gone with a shorter game, even if it cut out 10-20 hours of repetitive play time, and left things on a high note.
After this, I'm finally turning to "The Last Story" on Wii (it's been sitting in my backlog for a year), and someday I'll actually do a second playthrough of Xenoblade, since I deleted my original PAL save when it came out in the US.
Currently playing Xenoblade Chronicles for the first time. I started off loving the game, but I am getting close to YouTube-ing the rest of the story because I am not attached to any of the characters, the pacing is slow and the battle system has become tedious. Will play a little but more before deciding, though.
Edit: I kind of want to play something difficult on the NES such as Bayou Billy, TMNT or Abadox. Otherwise, I am considering jumping into something Damon's Souls, A Link Between Worlds, Valkyrie Profile or Final Fantasy Tactics.
Ni No Kuni
But i'm not really enjoying it, I find it somewhat childish, easy with a not so appealing combat system.
Not sure if I was expecting something else after all the rave reviews and such, or if I am just getting too old for Jrpgs.
