what jrpg are you playing right now ?

I'm currently playing Panzer Dragoon Saga.

Just made it to the second disc. I wonder though, the dragon you fight right before disc two, is that the final boss from PD2? They mention that it was defeated a long time ago but was impossible to kill and it looks similar.

But yes, it's a treat to finally be able to play this game.

Currently playing Blue Dragon and liking it more than Lost Odyssey.

Which is odd, because a few years ago when I first played them it was the other way round.

Tales of Graces F: Battle system-wise, probably my favorite Tales games. It's so good ! The crafting system is great too (and I usually hate/don't bother with crafting in most JRPGs).

And also Gungnir. Sting continues to make games that are great alternatives to the classic formulas of the genre they choose. Maybe less unique than Knights in the Nightmare or Yggdra Union, but still innovating.

why is that? I was the same way when they both first came out. I never actually gave blue dragon a chance because of kiddie nature of the game so i stopped very early in the game. What makes it that you like it more than lost odyssey?

Replaying Lost Odyssey makes me realise how slow it is. It'll regularly stop for a long cut scene, then a loading screen, then return control just so you can walk five steps for the next cutscene (preceded by a loading screen).

It's just so damn slow. Blue Dragon is a lot snappier in every way - loading times are better, cutscenes are more moderate, and battles are optional rather than forced (and load quicker when you do decide to take them on).

And for some reason the kids in Blue Dragon are less annoying to me now, whereas much of Lost Odyssey's cast was extremely annoying. Perhaps because Lost Odyssey tried to play it serious, but Jansen cross the line from jester to annoyance, the two kids spend most of their screen time crying, Sarah is vacant of personality and Kaim is monotone. If anything I now prefer Blue Dragon's characters, which are sincerely enthusiastic and upbeat.

Lost Odyssey is still good as 7th gen JRPGs go, but there's a lot of fat that could've been trimmed.

So I'm back on Xillia

quick question though. I just now received
Muzet
and my Artes shortcuts are all taken up except for the L1 2/2 Arte shortcuts. In battle I have tried holding L1 and up, pressing L1 then up, and so on. Basically every combination does not work. Am I doing this right or maybe the game wont let me summon here because L1 originally is used for a variant of Judes normal attacks. But then why would they let me equip
Muzet
to those shortcuts in the first place?

Hold L1 and move the right stick and any move you've set in that slot should work. I wouldn't think that move has any arbitrary restrictions like that considering I've used another character's summon with L1 + right stick up and it worked fine.

In total you should have 16 shortcuts. You are talking about the L1+right stick shortcuts. I'm talking about the L1+left stick shortcuts. My right stick shortcuts work perfectly but I cant seem to get the left stick shortcuts to work with L1.

Tales of Xilla
Atelier Ayesha: The Alchemist of Dusk

I've been slacking on Atelier Ayesha. Got it around when it was first released, but I haven't even gotten close to finishing it. Would like to before Atelier Escha & Logy comes out.

You have to hold L1 + a direction and then press O to use those shortcuts I believe.

Oh, them? I'm pretty sure those are actually on the 1/2 page. You actually have to use the Artes button as well with those. So it's hold L1, hold the left stick in the direction you need, and press O. I put that move on L1+neutral+O my first playthrough.

Sold my copy years ago. I was young and times were hard.

Been playing Lost Odyssey lately for the first time. Started off kinda slow but I'm liking it now, about midway through the 2nd disc.

Playing through P4G atm. What's up with Rise being a 15 year old pinup idol?

I find the dungeon music hiliarious and it cracks me up.

Also playing Persona 4 Golden right now (bought a vita just for it) and I'm having a great time with it. I haven't touched JRPG's in a long time now since I seem to have a short attention span nowadays, but I'm really hooked on this one.

Just beat FF13(which I loved) and now I'm on to FF13-2, which I'm also loving. I prefer the battle system and balance and challenge of 13 though.

Excited for Lightning Returns and Bravely Default. I'm in JRPG heaven lately.

Xenoblade sure has a lot of sidequests. I think I should just skip a lot of them and continue the story, but it sucks seeing a list of incomplete side quests =/

Tales of Hearts R - Mania mode. The artificial cap on the Soma Build system made me hit a wall. The first fight against
Chalcedony
is driving me up the wall because of those blasted SHIELDS. On harder difficulties, you really need to use your Artes to evade enemy attacks at the last second, and the AI is incapable of doing this. At least Jadeite keeps doing his job and avoids getting himself killed.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 - First playthrough. I like that it's more open than the original game and that there's no cap on the Crysterium.

The crafting system is great too (and I usually hate/don't bother with crafting in most JRPGs).

Dualizing is awesome. Team Destiny Tales games in general tend to have solid crafting systems. I know one person that went through the game and when I asked him about Dualizing, he said he never bothered.

I have to finish this. And 20 hours in...it isn't as bad as I remember it being.

Little tip if you dig the combat system: don't do sidequests (= grind) on Grand Pulse. The battles in the last few chapters are much more interesting that way, as you really have to use the battle system right.

Been thinking about giving FFXIII another shot as well. Now that I know what to expect, I might be able to tolerate it now.

Think my next one is Kingdom Hearts 1.5, which should be here soon. Was starting FFX-2, but might as well wait for the HD collection. It was blurry as hell on my TV.

yeah the last couple chapters is where the battle system shines. If you had to grind for exp during the story, you don't understand the combat at all.

Will remember that, thanks :)

Think that was my biggest gripe. X-2 was the first real dud imo. But from the E3(Lightning's train scene)trailer I was expecting God himself descending in omniform giving out morning coffees, croissants and morning BJs/Cunnilingus to whoever desired it. Now, I know it isn't so. And even with the games faults I've actually enjoyed my time so far with it.

HaHa, so true. It was one of my biggest disappointments last gen along with Silent Hill: Homecoming. I didn't like FFVIII at first, but then I took time to learn the junction system, and now it's one of my favorite FF. Have quite a few more problems with FFXIII, but I guess I'll give it another go.

another Xillia question!

Does anyone turn off the AI characters weaker Artes so that they can only use the newer moves? Because there is no way to see how powerful the moves are, so is it best to leave everything on or turn off the older moves based on the assumption that they are weak simply because they were unlocked early in the game?

hmmm. well, in every tales game, I just turn off the ones I don't want them to use.

Xillia's AI is pretty smart this iteration. Just turn them off; up to you really.

Finally, already chapter 3 in Raidou 2.

Almost half of my srw games have arrived; still waiting.

I remember playing the start of this years ago but never got around to finishing it, clearing out my backlog and wanted something nice and slow I can play while laying in bed, which this kinda fits perfectly. A few hours in..apparently it's 50-60 hours long so it'll probably take a while. Enjoying the animations and the larger scale battles, some characters are irritating though.
