What one year of Playstation Plus looks like.

I was honestly expecting there to simply be a picture of someone crying in front of a television with no games displayed on it. 49 games sounds good but the list is so-so. I get it, free stuff is wonderful when it's actually free but this is more like renting. As in you are paying to rent something you didn't ask to rent.

On XBox you are you paying for NOOOOOOOOOOTHING!

I think this is the core of my issue. Until PS+ starts doing substantial discounts on games day 1 I can't see myself ever signing up.

They do though.
There's even PS+ pre-order discounts.

Although whether or not they're "substantial" is an entirely a matter of opinion.

Zombie Tycoon II was free on plus on release day, which was pretty interesting.

Still don't know what they were thinking with that one.

I wonder what the PS4 plans are for the service. They cant give us free games at launch so itll be a tough sell right away...unless this Gaikai stuff ties into it somehow and they can start selling it as a backwards compatibility service.

PS+ on the Vita was rocky at first. A lot of us sat there in the first 6 months wondering wtf they were doing with it until they dropped that awesome game list on us in November. I bet they want to avoid that confusion this time around and get a lot of fresh PS4 owners involved with the service.

Shit. Dat backlog.

That I can accept. If you honestly find the value in the service itself and see the others as merely secondary benefits that's fine. I just find it weird that there seems to be this notion that getting games you may or may not have wanted somehow makes the service worth it on its own. It'd be like if Microsoft suddenly told people "Hey on top of Xbox live's normal features everyone will now get a free copy of Perfect Dark Zero (As long as they have live) with their sub".
Ehhhh... c'mon, man. You're comparing the selection on PS+ to PDZ? Honestly, you'd have to be the hardest of the hard core niche gamers not to find some appealing titles in the selection of free games. Between the discounts and the free/rented games, it's what a digital games subscription service should be. That's not comparing it to XBL or anything - that's just taking it on its merits.

Discounts on PS4 PSN games would be a good start. They could also tie some Gaikai stuff to it as well.

Free Indie games.

Would explain why Indie developers are flocking to Sony. Sony pays them to distribute the game free on PS+. Indie developers then don't have to worry about how high or low sales are going to be.

I'm not a big fan (at all) of paid services like these when it comes to games, but it seems like PS+ is an example of how it can be used for good.

Sony may get me to bite on this, mainly for the discounts.

It's an amazing service. I can't even begin to count the games I would have never played if it wasn't for PS+

Too bad some people are butthurt about the entire thing. Worst part are probably the Xbox 360 fanboys, saying it's just a rental service and you don't own any of the games. I don't think anyone actually cares about that if you see what kind of value you get for the money. You can even complete every game (100%/platinum) and if you ever want to replay it and your PS+ has run out, you just activate it again and the game will still be there. And you'll have another load of free games as well.

I don't understand how people can still defend Xbox Live against PS+ these days. I don't hate MS, but they're the only company asking payment to play online (excluding MMO's)... Hell, "greedy" apple doesn't even ask money to play iOS games online! And yet some of Microsoft's loyal fanbase prefers their service over PS+... (hurr durr at least we don't get hacked)

You pay for the ability to play online. That's it. It's a necessity and it sucks, but it's part of the hidden cost for playing a multiplayer game on the 360. Were PS+ required for online play I would obviously have it as well.

They do though.

I own every platform including PC. I get whichever is the best version of a particular game I want, and most of the time, if I'm excited for it, I get it day 1. It's a cool service but paying 50 bucks a year for like 21 dollars in discounts alone doesn't make much sense.

I believe that's everything since the announcement of the Instant Game Collection. So, yeah: 50 PS3 games and 17 Vita games, and a total of 63 games across both formats. Not bad for ÂŁ40. (FYI: the current selection is in bold)

If some of the sony ps3 games are cross gen, perhaps they could let people download the ps4 version for free on ps4+, games like last of us/gt6 if they decided to release those on the ps4.

Ehhhh... c'mon, man. You're comparing the selection on PS+ to PDZ?

Are you implying this isn't the greatest title ever released on the 360?

I believe Bobby Kotick was quoted as saying "God help us if Rare ever released a sequel to PDZ, We'd lose the entire COD audience over night."

I came to the PS3 late so PS+ is ideal for me, if I'd only got Arkham City, Sleeping Dogs, Catherine, Infamous 1+2, Vanquish and Limbo it would have been worth the ÂŁ30 I spent on a years subscription (which is about the same price as one new game).
If I buy a Vita it becomes even better as I'd already have a sizeable collection including most of the biggest games on the system.

In general I prefer to own my games but it seems publishers aren't as fond of that idea even if we pay full price, I think low-cost services like PS+ are the best compromise we have, we still don't own them but at least we pay a bargain price instead of being ripped off.

For a late PS3 adopter, this is a pretty amazing service.

Of course the bad thing for Sony is I'm tenative about buying games that might end up being on the service soon.

So play the games you have a vague interest in or have never really heard of. You may be surprised that you like them. I usually only buy games Im really interested in but Plus has allowed me to check out games I wouldnt normally buy.

People are still talking about free games.
The discounts guys.
Let's talk about the 20%-50% discounts on games that you get to keep when your plus is up.
Edit:
So play the games you have a vague interest in or have never really heard of. You may be surprised that you like them. I usually only buy games Im really interested in but Plus has allowed me to check out games I wouldnt normally buy.
This also.
I never would have got Demon's Souls, or either god of war, or borderlands, or tons of others were it not for plus. Maybe I'm just a pleb, but I can't just drop money on games for full price, plus is a god send for us cheap gamers :p

Maybe PS plus on ps4 will allow you to play many many ps3 games ( exclusive or multiplat) through PS plus, have to download the games and such and will be digital.

Maybe like 3 years after the release of ps4, like 90% of ps3 era games could be for free or something, that would be EPIC but very unlikely.

I already have a backlog of near 250 games that are either sitting in front of me in boxes or on steam. Why pay a yearly fee so I can maybe spend a tenth of my bandwith cap downloading Crysis 2 only to find out after 30 minutes, yeah, guess what, there's a reason I wasn't interested.

It's all good. Free games. Discounts. You feel like you actually paid for something of value instead of paying to keep the lights (online play) turned on.

This is the exact same situation I'm in as well. Hell just in the last few weeks I bought the D&D RPG pack on GoG which was 10 amazing titles for like 20 bucks. On Steam I ended up picking up around 4 or 5 games for around 40 bucks. It just seems cheaper and makes more sense when the savings are directly added into the purchase rather than split between the purchase and a subscription to get the savings in the first place.

Complaining about yearly fees, owns 250 games that'll never be played. eh at least you own them amirite?

PS+ is pretty great.

I don't know if it helps Sony or not, but it's creating a system where you literally never need to buy a game yet you end up with a yearly library that rivals someone spending thousands a year on titles.

Hey, I can't guess what your tastes in gaming are.
If you don't feel the discounts on day 1 purchases of guacamelee, journey, etc are worth it, what am I to say? As I said earlier, what is "substantial" is entirely a matter of opinion.

Yeah, pretty much. Honestly, if you look at the EU PS3 list and say "this isn't worth ÂŁ40/year period", then it's time to get a new hobby.

Really? Because it isn't. I'll bold all the games I already owned prior to them becoming free on PS+, or did so on another system. Italics for games I would never have tried, free or not.

Hey look, EVERY SINGLE GAME fits one of the two crieteria.

Looking at the lists you guys are putting out, I feel like PS+ is basically a console version of the steam sale.

It's the perfect companion for Steam. PC is my main platform and PS+ paid for itself in about one week as I instantly got a few exclusives for 'free'. After that there were months without anything interesting but the discounts and goodies add up. Like I always wanted to get Okami HD but never got around to it. Then is was on PS+, great! And when I eventually buy a Vita I won't have to buy one single game at first.

Well that's your fault then. I mean the backlog. Don't buy games Day 1 that you don't play. Since having PS+ I changed my behavior accordingly, so it's actually a good way to stop some people from wasting money.

And I like the cloud save feature.

I don't. The vast majority of those are older releases I grabbed on Steam.

I do think Sony has been doing a fairly bad job of communicating the benefits of plus, you know the community is doing most of the heavy lifting on it with threads like this. All they do is blog posts and videos. It would be nice to see a proper archive for both regions.

they're getting better at it, especially this year : every EU gaming mag is plastered with PS+ ads every single month, then you got PS+ sampling (1month free codes) and some effort thru social sites like FB, PS+ is also highly visible in store stands (front row screaming ads etc)

one thing that may be lacking is TV ads but looks like they don't need it

I wasn't aware those had PS+ discounts. How much off?

This is infinitely better than $50 a year for online play/online features.

It's a games console. Here are some free games.
