What realistically can Nintendo offer at this E3?

Now, this has been bugging me for a while, and it's only really crystallized into a coherent thought today... Do Nintendo even have much of note to bring about at this E3?

I mean, yes, we've heard that Zelda will probably be there. Exciting, yeah... but what else? What is going to appear that's at least going to turn some heads?

Let's break it down:

Hardware
  • Wii U bleeding out, but it's absolutely far to early to expect any replacement or official phasing out. Might hear about a bundle or two, but no sign of a shift in strategy beyond running down the clock.
  • 3DS tepid at best. No sign of any mooted successor in anything Iwata's said lately, and the revision that the 2DS brought about didn't have the desired effect.
  • QOL platform probably receiving most internal attention, but fundamentally unsuited to the event.
Newly Announced Software
  • Many of Nintendo's top teams and creatives- EAD Tokyo, Retro, Sakurai- have either just put out titles or are in the final stages of development. New reveals from any of these guys are unlikely.
  • Much of the software that should have been revealed at this E3 have already been revealed far, far in advance. Last January's Direct was one hell of a double-edged sword- Nintendo held themselves back enough to reveal Smash, 3D World and Kart at E3, but they've totally spunked their load on reveals for this year- the likes of X, Yarn Yoshi and SMT x Fire Emblem had absolutely no good reason to be revealed so long in advance, and anticipation for some of this stuff has fizzled as a result (admit it, you forgot about Yarn Yoshi, didn't you?)
  • Nintendo throwing every franchise they have at the 3DS and, to a lesser extent, the Wii U, has left them desperately short of stuff to show now. With Mario (both 2D and 3D), Mario Kart, Pokémon, Animal Crossing, etc. all having been pulled from the drawer, and stuff like Metroid, Star Fox and F-Zero clearly having been deemed to be too niche to be worth the investment of a modern budget, what exactly have they got left to pull from the drawer?
  • QOL concerns again: there's going to be some manner of software developed for whatever this platform actually is, and that's going to be drawing manpower away to stuff that, again, is not going to be suitable for an E3 presentation.
Actual Presentation?
  • Yes, yes, I know Nintendo didn't actually skip E3 last year. However, that really isn't the point. The PERCEPTION was that Nintendo skipped E3 last year, and E3 is all about perception. They need to absolutely come out swinging for the fences this time out.
  • However... can they really? I think that, in terms of actual content, this year's E3 is going to be less big for Nintendo that last year's. No new iterations in the megasellers, with the exciting revealed stuff already having been shown off last year. If they considered it worth their while to turn an E3 Presentation showing off Mario, Kart, Smash and Pokémon into a Direct, can they really go back to a stage show where Zelda's the only reasonably big card that they're likely to be able to play?

Now, they'll of course have interesting stuff- Zelda will probably be good, Smash will grab some attention, and I'm sure X and Bayonetta will be praised. However, in terms of turning heads, I simply cannot see anything apart from Zelda that they are even remotely likely to reveal- Animal Crossing Wii U is a possibility, but beyond that... I dunno. Third parties aren't interested, and there isn't a single title from one of Nintendo's core teams on the slate for either system? Am I missing something, or is this going to be utterly underwhelming in every sense?

Well, a new Zelda will probably turn some heads at the very least.

Personally, I just hope they show off X again with a story trailer + release date at the end. :)

Some future plans. I assume the announcement of an actual online service with accounts would draw more attention than a game ever could.

QOL is supposed to not involve video games.

Zelda
Metroid
X
More Smash Bros.

Some unannounced stuff, maybe another Mario game! *sigh*

Games, games, and games. We will learn more about games we already know (Smash, Hyrule Warriors, Yarn Yoshi, X, Bayonetta 2, SMT x FE, Zelda U) and they will announce some new games for both platforms. Do we even know of any first party 3DS games for the second half of the year other than Smash?

My chips are on stuff related to the next Zelda and Metroid; solid info on Monolith's game; GC titles on Wii U's Virtual Console - and the occasional HD remake.

More 3DS games because that shit ain't slowing down.

I also expect Zelda, Metroid, F-Zero, SSBWiiU/3DS, a new 3DS redesign, and some info about the WiiU as a whole.

Crazy prediction?
A look into the QoL shit they be working on.
Nintendo gonna be working hard to get that into the masses. What could it be?

Edit: SMT*FE will get a video. X will get a video. Yarn Yoshi will get a demo. New "mature" IP revival to get shit rolling.

I wonder if there's a chance of having another 3D Mario announced.
Even if they were to break their one per platform rule of thumb... who'd develop it? The 3D Mario tem just turned in 3D World, and the other EAD Tokyo team seems to be only big enough to handle NES Remix.
I'm just here to point out a minor nitpick. Sakurai doesn't really have a team.
Ah, yeah, of course. I'd got myself thinking that Project Sora was still a thing. Cheers, I'll edit.

Another price drop maybe?

I'd really like for them to announce a new mature IP but I don't think that will happen for a good long while.

Actual solid release date that they can stick too, as after Mario Kart 8 the Wii U line up is pretty much empty, none of the 2014 games have solid release date.

3DS revision (a proper one, unlike that 2DS crap) and a bunch of new 1st party titles. Also, still lots of localisations possible for the 3DS.

WiiU is dead. You'll see the same few games as always, plus a trailer for Zelda and that one NFC title.

I hope they at least won't show that QOL shit at gaming events.

They could actually show up this year.

Would be really stupid if they decided to not have a proper presentation again this year. They really need all the attention they can get at this point.

I think they're gonna go with the same approach as last year. Focus on games.
I hope that this Wii U/Next Gen Pokken Fighters game will be revealed and that it'll have a nice releasedate.

Apart from that; Zelda, Donkeydunnngngng, Hyrule Warriors, X, Bayonetta 2, SSB newcomers... and lots of indie support for Wii U.

Who knows they might announce Monster Hunter 4 for Wii U and or an Animal Crossing game. I hope the Fire Emblem x SMT game will be shown/trailer. And a new Metroid game is most definetly in the works.

Also; last year was all about new consoles. This time E3 will be all about features and content, games. So i guess we'll see a huge standoff between Sony, Nintendo & Microsoft.

I don't think anything new will be announced for Wii U besides Zelda U.

Miyamoto's new IP will be absent. At his usual E3 roundtable, he will say "Yes, I am working on a new game", and that's all we'll get.

I expect Nintendo to pay less attention to E3 than last year. Their strategy is mainly focused on the coming years with whatever weird tricks they have up their sleeves. (non wearable whatever)

NFC game has pretty much been confirmed for a showing.
Miyamoto's new game is very likely
Bayonetta 2
Zelda U has been confirmed
X
more third party collaborations( ala hyrule warriors)
hopefully some juicy third party exclusives.. but we shall see.

Going by Iwata's most recent comments, I would expect a focus on the NFC capabilities of the Wii U with a couple of titles to showcase: one from Nintendo themselves and the other perhaps a collaboration with Lego or Hasbro (Transformers?).

Just show me a new PROPER Mario game (akin to sm64, sunshine, and Galaxy), a new FPS Metroid, and a New Zelda, and you have my business Nintendo.

Wii U:
-NFC games
-Zelda trailer
-Tons of information about X and a release date
-New Bayonetta 2 trailer
-Smash trailer with multiple newcomers and a release date(counts for both Wii U and 3DS obviously)
-New update announcement
-Launch list of GBA and DS VC games
-Indie titles
-Possibly info about Yarn Yoshi and SMTxFE
-Release dates for Sonic Boom and Hyrule Warriors

3DS:
-Sequel to early 3DS title
-More eshop titles
-3rd party games being published by Nintendo in the west
-Release date for PLvsAA
-New update announcement
-3rd party games like the new Harvest Moon and Atlus titles
-One or two first party holiday titles to go with Smash

I'm willing to bet that we'll see new games that use the game pad in the same way Nintendo Land uses it.

Wait, they're doing a proper showing this year?

And X being released on the eShop immediately after the conference would make me pretty happy.
