Oh I could go on about the saturn. As for the system itself: It's good-looking, well built and reliable, I like the controller a lot. Save games are done smooth and fast. The ram cart gives it an excellent boost for replicating arcade games. And being disk-based, I can get a bootleg of any game that is just way too expensive to buy. My limit is ~$80 before I say fuck it and get a bootleg. I buy them with a case and a cover and all that. Some have nice printed discs.
Games: Many exclusives, reasonable $ to collect for despite some legendarily expensive games. Importing is fun. The library is a lot more interesting when looking at action and arcade games. PS1 had more of the complex games.
Overall: I don't look as saturn as much like the PS1 rival as I do a Neo-Geo killer, from the collector's point of view. I would love a Neo-Geo collection but starting now would be pretty expensive and of limited use. Besides, KOF and Metal Slug look and feel at home on saturn with a ram cart.
32-bit is my favorite generation, and I didn't get a saturn until they had clearly lost and were ending up in bargain bins, so it's an great way to dip in that still has a lot for me to explore. Solid console, as long as you have a taste for the library and don't hate the idea of playing some inferior versions to ps1 games.
