What the hell happend to The Order 1886 ?

Oh wait
So you raise a good question:

Is this an action game like The Last of Us, and adventure game like Uncharted? Or is it more like an interactive drama QTE game like Life is Strange and Until Dawn?

It's been quite a long time since I played the game, but I would say the majority of the combat is very much a "Cover Based Shooter". Think Gears of War, but with a lot more slower walking sections in between the action set pieces.

Also, there are certain stealth sequences that require you to sneak around and if you are found I believe you automatically die.

Fights against werewolves were riddled with QTEs. I actually don't mind QTE sequences in games, but they shouldn't completely replace boss fights. Having them during certain scenes maybe leading into a boss fight or finishing one off like in a God of War game can actually be a positive thing, at least for me.

Plus, sometimes failing them leads to hilarious deaths like these:

or this:

It's just that the game should also have some legitimate boss fights using it's actual in-game combat systems.

Only good thing about it was review thread in here. I got platinum on my first run in 5 hours, fortunately it was trade-in for old game and 2Kc with VAT (10 cent USD) on the top of that...

The gun play is more like Gears/uncharted, the melee and some stealth sessions is where the QTE style comes into play.

I got burnt with the limited edition lol. Rumors were swirling around that it was ridiculously short but I kept my preorder. I played it and just kept it.

Except for the repetitive fights with those wolfs, the game was excellent, reminded me of classic PS/PS2 era gameplay kind of RE.
The lore, graphics, story and mainly the setting was awesome.
Really hoping they get back into that world with a sequel.

Was really interested in this game when it was first announced and we got first details. Glad I held off though due to the poor reviews and the general reception it got. Picked it up on PSN recently for ÂŁ8 and for that price I would say it was just about worth it. If I paid full price I would have been pissed lol. As others have already stated, it's a graphically very impressive game, especially considering it came out early in the gen. Gameplay wise though and the pacing/length of the game was pretty bog-standard/poor.

Why didn't Sony tell the game developers over at Ready At Dawn to "go back and fix things", especially when it was going to be a Sony Exclusive? Did Sony not care?

The werewolf segments were so fucking bad. I mean, laughably bad. Something that should be talked about for the next 20 years for the worst boss encounters. They didn't know how to handle it at all. They obviously just couldn't come up with a fun mechanic for the scenarios and he had to do SOMETHING. The rest of the game was solid to me. Should have received a proper sequel because it seemed like the tech was what they spent the majority of the time on and built the game mechanics around that versus the other way around.
Yes those were complete shit, as were the QTE boss fights. Wait for thing to run at you and quickly shoot before it runs off! In what world is that entertaining.

The actual shooting was fine, though I thought the more gimmicky guns were pointless.

Aesthetics / art direction was very nice indeed, as was the overall setting. Just wasn't used well.

Its worth a playthrough at least imo. My only complaint is the length of the game and the lack of gameplay. I really like the setting so maybe im more forgiving cuz of it.

I'd rent or buy it for no more than maybe $10.
Ya know, my local mom and pop "video game selling and trading store" has it for $9.99. I guess I could pick it up. Being you're all saying it is so short, I could probably play through the whole game in under a few days and trade it back for the full $9.99 if it's so bad... I need to experience why it's bad to bash it

If you can return it, even better. Definitely worth the experience imo. I platinumed it in my only playthrough of about 6 hours

You can beat the game in one night if you wanted to.

Dont spoil it with YT vids, but you can beat the game in about 5 hrs. And about 2 - 2.5 hours of that are cut scenes.

The actual gameplay is shorter than even plowing through a Call of Duty SP campaign.

This video changed my mind about The Order

I think some of the best games we could of had were ones that got a chance to improve on the first entry. Its crazy how many IPs get annual releases that amount to basic reskins with extra MTX, season passes and release in a broken state, yet get praise or more than a second chance (Mass Effect Andromeda and Anthem for example).

Wait
What?
Sony did care -or- Sony didn't care?

I would think Sony would want to test run it and make sure it was a solid game if it's gonna be known as a Sony Exclusive.

.

Sony did care and Sony is known for giving freedom to Devs but after that or let's say now Sony Doesn't care .. for now
I believe RAD can't do anything about since TO1886 is owned by Sony .. and Sony never say something about it when It comes to Sequels

The Order 1886 was hyped from the first concept art well beyond anything the available information warranted. I remember seeing thread after thread about this game praising it as the second coming with even the smallest update. The bizarre thing it was for a new IP from a Studio that mainly did ports. The total build up of expectation surrounding this game was a complete head-scratcher to me.

Ok
Picked up a new copy of THE ORDER 1886 for $6.00 even! I have to see what this game's problem is.
I'll give it a spin on Wednesday-
I'll be back with my review sometime after

Ok so I'm on chapter 7 I think, and it's not bad at all. The story is great so far, and it looks amazing! It looks as great as Death Stranding and Days Gone!

And it's not too short at all!
I just played: Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice (Which is about 8 hours),
Uncharted Lost Legacy (which is about 10 hours),
Shadow of the Colossus (which is about 10 hours),
and What Remains of Edith Finch (which is about 4 hours)

But, I can feel why it's not amazing either.

I see now that it's a predominantly "cover and shoot" style game. The last time I played a game that felt like this was Gears of War on the Xbox 360 over a decade ago. So although The Order 1886 looks phenomenal, it feels very "last decade". I don't know what that's called. Perhaps "game mechanics"? (You guys can describe it better than me.)

Couple that with the Quick Time Events used to fight bosses and Lycan encounters instead of using some blocking, dodging, slashing, and punching, and it feels like this belongs as a great game for the previous console generation.

7 out of 10

They wanted to make movie instead of game.
People who play games are interested in playing games instead of watching movie.

The best way to establish a new IP is to target the lowest denominator of the time. For The Order 1886 - Mobile, facebook types and adults who bought a console for their kids.

Call them gateways games, if you will.

As much as I like the ideas behind The Order 1886, no one can convince me that it was game made for anyone on this forum.

Sequel for PS5 with the same graphical fidelity (loose the black boxes), 60 fps, semi open world (metroidvania), 20 hours story (10 more with sidequests), nerf the shotgunners, make the werewolfs more dynamic and no QTEs.

With those improvements I think the sequel could be one hell of a game.
Love the characters and the world!

I loved The Order 1886 for it's story, characters, setting and visual fidelity.

I hated The Order 1886 for it's crappy camera, painfully short length, shoddy gameplay, overly linear & repetitive level design and average shooting mechanics.

I see real potential in The Order 1886 in means of a sequel, but it will have to fix a lot of issues to win back the gaming demographic.

I'm still not over the very first reveal teaser from way back. It was teased almost like a L4D kind of coop game. It would've been a pretty good idea instead of what we got.

It looks amazing - like a thick rich world to play

but the game is kinda thin: basic cover and shoot.

It looks like a PS4 game but plays like an PS3 game or Xbox 360 game (Gears of War)

Apparently most of people aren't since game bombed.
One important factor was people complaining about it and people not playing the game because of that.

Every once in a while we have someone playing it for the first time and giving the game a good score.

The game bombed because people quickly critisiced it until death and a lot of people not even tried it.

The order 1886 AKA the xbox killer.

Little did they know the xbox was going to commit suicide anyway.

on a serious note, 1886 should be rebooted but in a bioshock X gears of war environment, a "rail shooter"/open world mix.

It's odd but...
I'm keeping The Order 1886

I bought 42 games for myPS4
I only kept 21 of em.

I've returned or sold better games than The Order 1886.
I just don't know why I'm keeping it? Perhaps because I bought it for $6 new and it's not worth selling and shipping? Who knows

Played through The Order 1886 again a few months back. It still looks fantastic with some potential in the world/lore to be expanded on, but there's no denying it's a generic cover shooter on the gameplay front. Having switched to ultrawide not long ago, also appreciated the aspect ratio used in the game too - remember it getting so much hate for that back in the day.

Actually wouldn't mind a sequel myself, but I guess Sony will now sit on the IP as they usually do when they don't become blockbusters.

Yeah
The "cover, shoot, repeat" is one thing, and the QTE boss fights are another thing that bring it down to a 6.5

Wait
I just played a game that had a story consisting of vampires, but I didn't get to fight any!?!
I thought finding and burning some coffins filled with vampires was some sort of foreshadowing.

Oh well. I guess it would have been a QTE vampire fight anyway
