What the hell is going on with Dark Cloud 3?

It's been rumored for several years now, Sony filed a trademark last year, there's this oddly specific forum post on GameSpot, and then in May Level-5 announced they were working on an exclusive PS4 game and the timing made it sound an awful lot like it could be Dark Cloud 3.

But then, E3 came and went, and not only was Dark Cloud 3 not announced, but no game at all for PS4 was announced.

Dark Cloud 2 was my favorite PS2 game and I have fond memories of playing the first Dark Cloud with my sister when I was a kid. I've been pining for a new Dark Cloud game for years and it seems like Level-5 wants everything and nothing to do with it all at the same time.
 
No one ever promised or stated a Dark Cloud 3 was coming, as far as I know. So...maybe you shouldn't expect things that were never announced?

Did I say I was expecting it? Just looking at the breadcrumbs and wondering why it's never been officially talked about one way or another.
 
I've been looking at Dark Cloud 3 rumors for 8 years now. If it happens, I'd be interested in even how similar it would be at this point.
 
Level-5's PS4 project still hasn't been revealed yet.

I guess it will be announced at the Tokyo Game Show this year?

It probably won't be Dark Cloud 3 though. :(
 
You posted up Gamespot forum fanfiction, a trademark that was likely intended for a PS2 Classics release in Japan and a random blog post tied to a likely unrelated tease.
 
Was not impressed at all with Level-5's PS3 outings. Ni No Kuni's charm was all it had going for it, and White Knight Chronicles 1 and 2 were some of the absolute worst games I had the misfortune of playing last gen.

Definitely hoping for a Dark Cloud 3, though.
 
Level 5 need to be blackmailed to get DC 1 and 2 remastered and re-released already @_@

Or heck just put up the 2 games as part of the PS2 Classics, one of them's already on JP PSN.
 
We also want Legend of Dragoon 2 and Rogue Galaxy 2 (or a White Knight Chronicles 3).


Or Legend of Legaia 3. I hope one of these rpgs will be announced for the PS4, because lately people love new installments to their nostalgia favorite rpgs.
 
There is no Dark Cloud 3. Level 5's new PS4 game is going to be NNK2 or a new IP. They're too big to be working on a franchise they don't even own.
 
I would like to see a Dark Cloud 3 but I don't think it'll happen. It's highly similar to MML3 in the sense that it has a sizeable, loyal fanbase but not nearly enough to justify a sequel. Big game studios aren't willing to gamble on cult classic IPs anymore.
 
Sony finally has a console that could do the idea justice, what, with it's randomized level layouts. The ps4's hdd and disk size coudl really let them go all out in number of rooms and complicity.

But it's probably never going to happen.

I do. I just meant that the rumor culture around it is silly and mostly, more than anything else, I just really want it to happen and shit like that post keeps popping up and digging the knife deeper.
 
Why on earth would level 5 do a work-for-hire deal with Sony for a sequel to a moderately successful PS2 game, when they're the top third party publisher in japan and rolling in Yokai Watch cash?
 
I still have the second game sat on my shelf waiting to be played, loved the first game though, which someone stole my copy :<

I really liked a LOT about Dark cloud 2.

But man, I HATED the boring,boring, BORRRRRIIIIINNNGGGG System they made where you have to clear 10 of the samey randomly generated levels to get anywhere, and then do it agin, and again, and again, and again....

I pretty much loved everything about the game except how they had the levels set up. A new one with a designed world? Where you dont constantly repeat the same lego level arranged slightly differently 30 times an area?

Man, that would be sweet.
 
Dark Could.... Man, good times. Loved the first one but sadly never got around to buy it (only rented it). 2 not so much. IMO the just over-blew the whole concept.
 
Oh man if they ever did announce it

and with all those other JRPGs in the works currently

there is no such thing as too many promising JRPGs
 
My sources tell me it will be announced roughly 12 days after Legend of Dragoon 2.
 
Dark Cloud 2 was really an amazing game. Playing it now, the combat actually reminds me a bit of Dark Souls in how it's a bit slower, more based in push-and-pull defense and offense.

I would really like to see a new game in the franchise, but I'm not really expecting one.

Dark Cloud 2 was a freaking hodge podge of ideas smushed together.

Honestly it was bit overwhelming at first.

What with the golf, the fishing, the fishing races, the photo taking crafting, the monster form collecting, the npc collecting and moving....

But I really began to enjoy the breadth of things to do... ANd began dreading going back for another grind through the same generated levels another 10 times to get to the next waypoint...

And oh god, the manual saving. I STILL remember the worst time I had with this game, I had just power grinded through what had to be around 20 forest levels, and got this boss, who I proceeded to curbstomp, and then the fight switched to protecting this npc from these flames, and I was wrecking them, I was wrecking the snot out of them, but.... she went off camera for a moment, and that was all it took, one touch, game over, And I hadnt saved.

It was a while before I fired it up again.
 
Tell you what - they can work on this after they get around to giving me a Rogue Galaxy 2 (plus a HD remaster of the original).
