What the hell is going on with Dark Cloud 3?

Honestly it was bit overwhelming at first.

What with the golf, the fishing, the fishing races, the photo taking crafting, the monster form collecting, the npc collecting and moving....

But I really began to enjoy the breadth of things to do... ANd began dreading going back for another grind through the same generated levels another 10 times to get to the next waypoint...

And oh god, the manual saving. I STILL remember the worst time I had with this game, I had just power grinded through what had to be around 20 forest levels, and got this boss, who I proceeded to curbstomp, and then the fight switched to protecting this npc from these flames, and I was wrecking them, I was wrecking the snot out of them, but.... she went off camera for a moment, and that was all it took, one touch, game over, And I hadnt saved.

It was a while before I fired it up again.

lol, how funny, I also had a horrible incident with DC2's saving (even though it totally isn't the game's fault). After playing about 90+ hours on one save file (I usually never have save files exceeding ~65 hours), I started a new game, and accidentally saved over my old one. I cried, then got over it after a few weeks and played it again.

Overall, I like DC2 more than DC1. It just has the charm that DC1 doesn't seem to have

I can't seem to think of any feature in Dark Chronicles 1 that was better than 2

DC2
-graphics are definitely superior
-male/female lead characters
-more side-quest content/activities
-deeper weapon customizations (granted, everyone just went for the end-be-all top weapon and ignored the rest)
-Ridepod!!
-better object placement with georama
-ranged attacks

The debatable ones would be some players preferring the quiet, isolated atmosphere in DC1 compared to the bright artsy colors in DC2. Not having to recruit characters, and being annoyed with picture hunting for inventions and the blasted golf game, spheda, are probably the leaning factors to liking DC1 more than 2

I've beaten DC1 once, and did multiple full playthroughs for 2

Edit: I forgot another one that DC1 has over DC2..... Toan>Max

I would quit gaming forever and live a happy life if I could just play Dark Cloud 3.

At least with games like Crash and Zone of Enders or whatever else, there's a hopeful, vocal fanbase.

But not Dark Cloud 3. I feel so alone in hoping for a sequel.

You could literally save after each dungeon.

Neither were perfect games and I don't think the second game managed to outsell the first by too much despite a larger budget. DC2 is one of my all time favorite games and I still have my 240hr save file. I was actually one of the dozen or so people in the infamous Kotaku article who emailed the director in support of DC3. Sometime after, a lot of that talent moved on so the dream is likely dead.

But I honestly think it's cancelled at this point, there's just not enough demand really. Their new game is very likely a follow up to Ni No Kuni.

Dark Cloud and Dark Cloud 2 (particularly 2) were some of my absolute favourite games of my childhood, up there with Shadow of The Colossus. I played through both of them multiple times and even have the Dark Chronicle (Dark Cloud 2) strategy guide.

I already went a crap ton of games on PS4 (when I finally get around to buying one) and Dark Cloud 3 would just be the absolute icing on the cake.

Dark Cloud 2 was a freaking hodge podge of ideas smushed together.

Everything was great! Georama, Golf/Spheda, Fishing, Fish Baits, Fish Battling, Fish Racing, Fish Breeding, Photographing and creating ideas, the numerous fetch/mini quests to acquire party members, the crafting of weapons and upgrading your weapon to create different weapons.

And of course THE MUSIC. Oh my god, easily my top 3.

We also want Legend of Dragoon 2 and Rogue Galaxy 2 (or a White Knight Chronicles 3).

Or Legend of Legaia 3. I hope one of these rpgs will be announced for the PS4, because lately people love new installments to their nostalgia favorite rpgs.

I think the world has had enough WKC lol

DC2 is hands down my favorite game on the PS2, and it's breaking my heart knowing we'll probably never see a third game. Last I heard anything it was said that Sony owns the IP, and that it's more or less up to them to do something with it. Time to spam Gio Corsi on Twitter (#buildingthelist)? :)

I would buy a PS4 the same day that an eventual third game would be announced.

Are you calling Dark Cloud a B-tier series?

There is no Dark Cloud 3. Level 5's new PS4 game is going to be NNK2 or a new IP. They're too big to be working on a franchise they don't even own.

Didn't people say the same thing when there were rumors of "Demon's Souls 2"? Which later turned out to be Bloodborne.

Dark Cloud is a superior game to Dark Chronicle IMO.

Yeah Chronicle had a million things to do, but none of them felt complete. I also greatly preferred the atmosphere and music in Cloud, and felt the city building aspect was more enjoyable.

There was a Dark Cloud 3 page for the PS3 on Gamestop years back that's gone now.

This rumor has been around a lot longer than "Demon's Souls 2".

Just because you want something really bad doesn't make it exist. Wishing doesn't make it so. To answer your question what is going on with it: absolutely nothing.

How much different is Dark Cloud 2 compared to the first? Bought both new, and I didn't really get into the first one.

I'm talking about the "too big to work on someone else's IP" part of his post, there were Demon's Souls 2 rumors, & people dismissed them because From Software were too big to work on a Sony IP, especially after they were purchased by one of the biggest media companies in Japan.

Youve also got to remember theyve been working on a SquareEnix IP for the better part of 10 years. They are definitely not too big for Dark Cloud 3

Yup. They're a 280 person company, just because they own the hottest video game IP in Japan doesn't mean that they're too big to work on other companies' IPs. It just means that they have a steady income.

I remember the CEO or someone saying part of the philosophy of making their games though is to have some kind of hook to really get the game popular like Ni No Kuni being also done by Studio Ghibli. In this case, it would probably mean that towns would be shared online and maybe even a dungeon builder mode as well.

Honestly, this is my number one dream game. I just wish more people would speak up about it. I try to mention it in as many of the "What game series would you like revived" threads and whatnot, just hoping that more people will remember it and present a visible fanbase so that a sequel (or at last a remaster, re-release, ANYTHING) would be considered

Sony hasn't even bothered to put the games on PSN classics, so I doubt making a sequel is a high priority.

Wish they would make another game in series though. Oh and a Wild Arms 6. Wild Arms 5 was fantastic and one of the best turn based battle systems out there.

What game would that be? Dragon Quest IX was 6 years ago and development started long before they even released their first self published game.

I was very firmly in the no Demon's Souls 2 camp, and it did turn out to be correct. Bloodborne being a new IP made a bit more sense than a Demon' Souls 2, but given how close it is to the souls series I still kindof think it was a bad business decision to make it together with Sony rather than publishing it themselves, but of course I don't know the details of FROMs financial situation and the contract for Bloodborne was likely signed before the Kadokawa acquisition, so they didn't yet have as much security.

I don't think Level 5 can really be compared to FROM software though. They were the top selling third party publisher in Japan last year and they're very good at developing new cross media franchises and milking them for all they're worth.

The fact that they're relatively small makes it an even bigger waste of resources to put a large AAA console team on someone elses IP

Tell you what - they can work on this after they get around to giving me a Rogue Galaxy 2 (plus a HD remaster of the original).

YES, Rogue Galaxy 1 HD and Rogue Galaxy 2 please. But if Dark Cloud 3 comes first that's fine by me.

Dark Cloud 2 was okay, but running through the dungeons was probably the weakest part for me. I have to agree with the "samey" dungeons and having to run them over and over was irritating. Still, the setting was good and I liked running around the town and stuff. Dark Cloud 1 was better...in my opinion.

It'll be interesting to see what they do with Dark Cloud 3. Hopefully they've learned about varied level design and will have some interesting stuff going on. Hopefully it's not just a rumor and actually coming out.

I'd really love a Dark Cloud 3, but at this point I don't think it's happening. For one thing, the last game in the series was 13 years ago and it's not like the series was a huge success even at the time. I'd question whether they'd just be better starting over with a new IP. I'm excited to see something new from Level-5 and it surely has to show up at TGS, but they're not the most consistent of devs and I hope that they're able to improve on the combat specifically from their last few games.
