What type of setting/mythos is appropriate for a new From Software RPG?

The more abstract, obscure and polarizing, the better.

I doubt we'll get that though, FROM gotta keep making that money.

The last thing I want is for them to go the Ubisoft route, where it's just Ubisoft the Game: Jungle Edition and so on.

Yeah pretty much (also one my worries why I don't want a direct sequel to any of their franchise like a bloodborne 2 or a dark souls 4 right now).

Like I think Souls 3 lore and story was kinda weak and I'd like them to explore a new theme, see what they can tell. Even if it's a totally different gameplay. Which is why I like the possible idea of something actually more mellow, calm, like Ico or Shadow of the colossus

But yeah I don't expect any big dev in the world to do that last setting i suggested :p

But the souls games and even Bloodborne have offered fantastic visual variety including abstract and surreal settings even while working within the frameworks of a set aesthetic. Be it gothic medieval fantasy or Victorian ghosts and ghouls.

Dystopian urban Cyberpunk in a vertical layered city ranging from the slums of the proletariat to the corporate ivory towers.
