What was the best Disney game?

The pinball in Jungle Games was the first pinball game to really hook me

Hah, same here. Although I never really got into it again afterwards I suppose, but I haven't tried playing pinball in years.

Loved that game to bits, but knowing that it was mostly a connection of simply minigames but with fancy graphics and voice acting it probably wouldn't hold up now. I seem to remember there being an Aladdin variant of that which I absolutely adored as well.

Epic Mickey was my favorite, though definitely not objectively the best.

It was basically a lost N64 platformer and I enjoyed every minute of it.

And Hercules (I couldn't imagine games looking that good back then):

Suddenly I have flashbacks of playing the demo on PS1. I really liked the 2D sprites on 3D environments. Seeing enemies and hazards move from background to foreground was really cool to me.

The original is better but I enjoyed the hell out of the Ducktales remake.

Absolutely beautiful, and still a blast to play aside from the endless cutscenes (props for getting the original voices but jesus christ there were so many of them). I wish they did more of them after this but I guess none have been announced.

As for an older game, nobody is going to name this as one of the good ones (those, like Aladdin and Lion King, have already been mentioned), but I was obsessed with Pinochio for the Game Boy when I was a kid. It probably hasn't held up but I'm not going to tempt fate and try it out again.
Seeing the DuckTales remake makes me even more sad that Alan Young is no longer with us (may he rest in peace). He did a fantastic job as Scrooge McDuck, & voiced him even in his 90's.

Wow it looks way rougher than I remembered

Came in here to post exactly this. :D

Did you play it on SNES or MegaDrive / Genesis? Because, after looking up Maui Mallard on YouTube, there seem to be quite a few differences between the two versions;
Level design, music and even the title screen.
Genesis. Heck I didn't even know there was a SNES version.

Personally? It's DuckTales Remastered, followed closely by DuckTales 2, then DuckTales 1.

If I were to ignore my nostalgia bias, however, the best Disney game is almost-objectively Kingdom Hearts (Or probably KH2, but I've never played it).

Capcom Disney and Marvel games.

Sega Star Wars Arcade

Dark Forces and its sequel

Original trilogy super series on snes

Kingdom Hearts series

Castle of Illusion

Tsumtsum

KOTR series

Virgin Lion King and Aladdin

Maui Mallard

The Hercules game was alright.

If we're counting pre-acquisition Lucas Arts games, this thread goes in a whole different dirrection.
What's Tsumtsum?

Considered writing a Retrospective series on Disney games in the past but never went forward with it....but Disney games I fondly remember are the following.

1) Ducktails & Ducktails Remastered:
This set of games are fantastic titles that take a Mega Man-esc mentality & feel (considering the original Ducktails was made by people that later worked on Mega Man 2) but with fresh mechanics that fit nicely with the series. Add amazing music and tight level design, and we have a classic. Remastered has some issues (not being able to skip the cut-scenes originally was an problem for some) but is a damn solid remake from WayForward.

2) Castle of Illusion (Original & 2013's Remake):
This title was SEGA's attempt at a mascot platformer before Sonic and man, is it a solid game. Beautiful sprite work, solid level design and overall interesting gameplay. The remake felt like a N64/PS1 game with modern HD visuals and I loved it for that.

3) Aladdin (Both, Super Nintendo & Genesis Versions)
Both versions of Aladdin are damn solid games, with the former (SNES) being a tight paltform with great controls/mechanics while the later one is a beautiful game with really great animation and sprite work.

4) Mickey Mania:
A Mickey Mouse Platformer that I really enjoyed playing in the past. Blending the different iconic cartoons from the past with amazing hand-drawn visuals & great level design makes a game I fondly remember.

5) Toy Story 2:
What a well done 3D platformer from Travelers Tales. One of the PS1's best underrated soundtracks, solid controls and fun level design making great use of the toys-come-to-life concept that the film presents.

6) Epic Mickey Series:
Well......its mixed for sure and really, only the first one is anything more than 'okay' but I still enjoyed this series warts and all. Made a very detailed breakdown of the series on 3WIREL, so consider reading that if you want to learn more about the games. But Its a series I enjoyed but have a lot of frustration toward. It could have been great but it just wasn't :(.

The Epic Mickey series for me. I really loved its style and gameplay.

Disney Infinity gets high points because it covers so many Disney franchises and allows you through Toy Box to interact with them.

Kingdom Hearts basically abandoned the Disney part matter in 4/5 of the way into the first game. Now it's literally background dressing.

I have an unreasonable fondness for the PC/Genesis version of Cold Shadow (or Maui Mallard in EU for whatever reason). Nowadays I think I only remember it for the arranged soundtrack on the PC version, but I still dig it.

Apparently the SNES version was completely different though.

And Hercules (I couldn't imagine games looking that good back then):

The first video game I ever played. Still have it, still love it, the Hydra battle blew my little mind.

Best Disney games are Kingdom Hearts, followed by all the movie adaptations on PS1 that had clips from the movie play between levels.

Tarzan was one of my favorites.

"World of Illusion" for the Sega Mega Drive. One of the best 2P Co-op games!

World%20of%20Illusion8.jpg

Yes! I came to post this. World of Illusion is easily one of my favorite co-op games, and perhaps my favorite Disney game. I played the hell out of this with a friend all the time as a kid.

If Kingdom Hearts 2 counts then definitely KH2FM. But that would be too easy so I'm also going with Aladdin for SNES.

Let's not forget about Goof Troop for SNES. Terrific action puzzler with great co-op.

My personal favorite is Magical Quest. Of all these games, it most makes me feel like I'm at Disneyland.

Tarzan was one of my favorites.

Tarzan was surprisingly good -- I got it expecting crap and really enjoyed it.

Aside from Kingdom Hearts, I'll go with Castle of Illusion and Quack Shot. Both are just two of the best games of the generation that have absolutely beautiful graphics.

Mickey Mania is by far the best looking game of Disney's hay day. I've never been able to get very far in the game though.

Honorable mentions:

The Magical Adventure trilogy on SNES is spectacular, and the last two feature some great co-op.

Castle and Land of Illusion on SMS are top tier platformers on the console. Haven't played the third.

Overlooked Mentions:
Donald Duck Going Quackers on PS1 is a really cool Crash Bandicoot clone. It's a surprisingly solid game that'll itch the 3D platformers itch quite nicely.

Mickey's Great Adventure in Tokyo Disney (SNES) is a Japanese only Mickey platformer with levels based on Disney park attractions. Hard as nails, but pretty inventive and different from the other Disney games of the era. Very cool to play if you're a fan of the parks.

I adore a lot of the games already mentioned (Ducktales, Chip and Dale, SNES Aladdin easily come to mind) but this hasn't been mentioned:

...and you know what, it's really good if you're looking for a shooter, not a platformer, and you're willing to get your head around what very much feels like a Gradius-style shooter in the Mega Man IV engine. The difficulty is all over the place but it's really underrated otherwise.

For me, it's either the first DuckTales or Darkwing Duck for NES. Not many people mention Darkwing Duck for some reason. It's as good as any of the Disney platformers out there.

Absolutely adored this game growing up, one of the best platforrming co-op games out there. You could switch between unlockable costumes that gave you different abilities and the bosses were so fun to fight.

I was also quite fond of how the overworld map looked despite it not making a lot of sense.

The Lion King for the Mega Drive is my favourite.

I also really enjoyed Extremely Goofy Skateboarding, but I've not played it in years, so I dunno how it holds up.

Monsters Inc: Scare Island by a country mile. Amazing soundtrack.

Runners up:

Kingdom Hearts II
The Emperor's New Groove Game
Disney Infinity 3.0
