What was the best Disney game?

villains.jpg

Does anyone even remember this game? Kid me loved it, was pretty tough too, at least for it's target audience anyways.
Edit: 8 and up? Now everything makes a whole lot more sense.

Oh hell yeah. Fighting Hook, solving the circus puzzle, and making potions was a lot of fun. Wonderland's level sucked hard though.
I remember a minigame with the seven dwarfs that I really liked too.

I think I still have this game.

Seing how it is difficult for me to choose in OP's list I'm now sad to realize that I haven't played a good Disney game for a long time :'(

Really I can't choose between:
- Chip'n'Dale
- Castle of Illusion
- Aladdin

I'd kill me :/

I'll have to replay them I guess ^^

My fave..

Castle of Illusion (Megadrive and Game gear version)
World of illusion (easy but fun)
Donald ducks playground (i used to love this as a young kid)
Quackshot & Lucky dime caper (both fun, just not great)
Aladding (great game)
Lion King (enjoyed but bit of a bore at times especially adult simba)
Kingdom hearts (kinda counts)

SEGA's Land of Illusion for the Master System.

Honorable mention to Pocahontas for the Mega Drive/Genesis:

It was developed by Funcom (the developers of Longest Journey) and it's one of the best puzzle-platformers of the 16bit era.

I have to agree with Aladdin for the Genesis. I loved that game so much when I was a kid. I remember trying the Super Nintendo version at a friends one time and I really didn't like it.
I liked Duck Tales as a kid, but I'm not a fan of the music in the remake.
Was actually the best selling non Sonic related genesis game.
Really? I never knew this. That's pretty cool!

"World of Illusion" for the Sega Mega Drive. One of the best 2P Co-op games!

Just beat this the other day... it was OK but I didn't feel it was as interesting as Castle of Illusion when it comes to level design. Plus I was a little disappointed that I beat it in like 30 minutes with only continuing once. Castle was a good deal more challenging. Graphics were very nice though!

My favorite Disney game would probably be the original DuckTales (haven't played 2 yet!) or Rescue Rangers (the sequel is good too but I do prefer the original slightly).

The most underrated game would have to be Shinji Mikami's Goof Troop. A 2 player overhead action puzzler with some fun mechanics and tricky puzzles.

World of Illusion is definitely considerably easier than Castle, no argument there. What makes the game really unique to me is how it changes depending on which characters you play as.

There's 3 level paths:
Mickey's
Donalds's
And Co-op

The levels aren't hugely different between characters, but they feature enough unique level design to justify multiple playthroughs. This was just an amazing feature to me at the time; very few games featured character specific levels, let alone co-op specific levels. It's one of the few games of the era in which co-op is a game mechanic in itself, and not just a tacked on 2nd player.

I wish someone would get the license to make Disney games again like how Capcom did most of the 80's games. Disney's library (without even including Star Wars and Marvel) is super deep. I would cry if there was a rebirth of 2D Disney animated games.

Chip 'n Dale definitely qualifies, great memories of playing through it with friends when I was little.

The NES/GB Darkwing Duck game by Capcom was AWESOME! Felt a whole lot like Mega Man.

Have to respectfully disagree with Mickey Mania. Definitely a love letter to the character with world-class presentation, but the level design was awful and made the game hard in a bad way. Too many cheap deaths.

Loved the MD/Genesis Toy Story game, good variety and solid gameplay.

I was super excited for Maui Mallard/Cold Shadow when it came out on the MD, but good god was it hard!

Left-field pick: the Hercules PS1/PC action-platformer. Really nice mix of 2D and 3D and pretty fun as I recall.

Darkwing Duck on Game Boy for me, but
It's probably because I love the Mega Man games and the Batman/The Shadow parody of the cartoon.
"I am the terror that flaps in the night! I am the winged scourge that pecks at your nightmares!" "Let's get dangerous!" Man, I haven't seen it in 20 years but still love those crazy lines :D

Quackshot on Mega Drive and Mickey's Magical Quest on SNES would round out my top three, I much preferred them to Aladdin and The Lion King, probably because they did their own thing rather than pasting a (admittedly pretty good) platformer onto as many film references as possible.

Pretty hard choice, but I'd probably give it to Castle of Illusion on Genesis/Megadrive. I see very few flaws with that game.

I have a real nostalgic soft spot for Castle of Illusion on the Genesis. Mickey's joyful, expressive walking animation is something that still makes me smile.

These are some games I have a great deal of nostalgia for. I have no idea if many of them hold today, but they sure gave me some joy in my childhood.

Something about the title paired with Mickey's expression and the scene around him has me both laughing and concerned.

FYI Mickey Mania on Genesis and SNES IS ALSO Mickey's Wild Adventure on the PS1. That version was only released in Europe. That version added an extra level not seen in any other version: A run from the Giant at the end of the Mickey & The Beanstalk level.

That game on Genesis was pure joy. Loved every minute of it.

The Genesis/SNES era was Disney's strongest for fantastic games. Aladdin, Lion King, Castle and World of Illusion, and Mickey Mania are all stellar games.

If KH is allowed, then Kingdom Hearts II easily.

If not, then the gameplay and design of Ducktales on NES holds up better than any other Disney game.

Disney 2D games (on Genesis) and 2.5D games (on PS1) were amazing! Most of them had good gameplay and fantastic graphics. They were like playable animations and I still play them sometimes. From Aladdin, The Lion King and The Jungle Book to Hercules and ...

Pick any of the NES, SNES, Genesis or 2D sprite based games.

Kingdom Hearts and company can count, but it's not the best. That is a fact.

Kingdom Hearts, if you can include it.

Otherwise, it'd have to be that Aladdin game I grew up playing. I'm not sure which one it was, it was a port for the Gameboy?

EDIT: Oh and Tarzan (PS1).
