If monster hunter is single handedly keeping the japanese Psp afloat what will it do for wii?

and does this mean that the console war is basically over in japan once this hits?

*goes back to playing wow*

Hey wow, I wonder if MH3 will be a fun game or not?

I honestly don't know. I think at least in Japan, not a lot. Just because I think it's more of a portable game anyway.

I don't care what MH3 do for the Wii, I just want to play the new console version of Monster Hunter, its been a while.

Well it's not like any more consoles can be sold than the ones being sold right now, so in terms of Wii hardware sales.... they'll keep selling out.

The console war is already over in japan. It was over like a year ago. This guy even wrote a book about why the PS3 failed.

From what I read Monster Hunter doesn't do so hot on consoles though.

and nothings changed.
Heaven forbid the thought that being on a Nintendo platform might be an advantage to a particular type of game. Market this to the Pokemon crowd and they'll probably buy it.

You never play monster hunter do you? The genres are different and MH is too difficult for casuals.

I'm not saying that that Pokemon and MH are similar at all, but Pokemon isn't a 'casual' game. They talked about this on 1up Yours last week and it was an interesting discussion. Nintendo have basically got millions of kids to play a hardcore, old school rpg.

Sales of the console versions always were pitiful compared to the Monster Hunter Portables. So not much, I guess.

Pokemon is still easy to get in to. Monster Hunter is not forgiving.

Oh yeah and I love it for that...most people not so much.

Give it a bonafide console MMO which I hope is approachable by anyone. This and or get Nintendo WFC in gear to handle a large amount of users online. My main concern is how Capcom is going to use the control scheme for gameplay.

Well, I'll have to take your word for it because I've never actually played any MH games. I'm just in here for the sales-age.

I was just saying Pokemon isn't really a 'casual' RPG.

And besides, you only have to capture 10% of that audience to make the game a success in the west.

Well, I mean, why dumb it down? They could certainly make the camera more accessible. But anything else would kind of take away the reason why the game is so good.

It's really like saying to Sega "Why not just make Virtua Fighter more simple?"

There really is no online game out there with the kind of combat depth MH has.

I think if they did something with the camera though, at least more Americans would get into it.

MH3 should do about the same as the PS2 versions, plus or minus 100k depending on whether there's a good online infrastructure, etc. It won't do anything close to what the PSP ones do though.

Don't forget, MH sold really well on the PS2 as well (just not quite like the PSP). Hopefully the next one will keep the mometum they've built up going...

If we're lucky, even the fact that it's coming for the system will make other jpn publishers feel like it's 'ok' to develop deeper games for the wii, aimed at the 'gamer' audience.

I don't think it will have much of an impact in the big scheme of things. For one thing, as has been pointed out, we've already seen that handheld popularity doesn't necessarily translate to console populaity, or at least not to the same degree. So it's not some untested idea.

In fact, we've probably seen some better examples that on paper look like they should have done much better because they were from Nintendo itself, and the marketing/demographics were far more aligned.

It will probbaly be a success, and make money for Capcom, but I don't think it will really put up the same type of numbers as the PSP.

Probably will do nothing but a slight bump. Wii needs a continued stream of hardcore Wii-obnly games of enough quality.

Yeah, because the Wii is so far behind in sales... Oh, wait, it is NOT.

Dos on PS2 did close to 600K. That's no slouch no matter how popular the handheld series is. Should the Wii version perform similarly, which isn't impossible, then that will be an impressive result.
