What will Nintendo bring for Wii in 2011?

I think the vitality sensor will turn out to be vaporware and will never see a release. It's really just not practical enough to have any marketabillity.

I think Zelda, Mario Party, another Wiicasual, and maybe a couple of fan-service titles.

I'd like to see an F-Zero update perhaps with M+ for more accurate tilt controls but that's probably asking too much. Or a Luigis Mansion 2 using the wiimote as a flashlight/vacuum combo, but not on rails.

I don't think they will have too much. Really who knows about vitality sensor? I don't see much and only because they don't need to do much. I see a price drop and thats probably the biggest thing.

Software will be solid but not great.

Hope we see the 2 big rpgs localized and maybe some more on DQX

how about new IPs

You'd better be first in line with me to get Steel Diver!

but if you think about it, its always the new IPs each gen that stand out & make me fall in love with them...last gen that was Pikmin, few others

I definitely felt that way last gen. So much love was put into Pikmin 1 and 2 (the encyclopedia!). You could tell that EAD had a blast making it, and it was Nintendo's best game for that gen IMO.

I would be interested in this too, it could be great. Do not want Artoon though.

All I really want is an announcement of an upgraded wii that can run wii games in 720p/1080p and future games will run at that resolution.

New hardware platform or not, the Wii successor needs to be able to do this.

Nintendo is the worst company to know because they keep their secrets INSANELY secure (SPECIALY compared to other companies) .... so i will just say my wishes

StarFox airwing game

F-zero WiiX

Luigi's Mansion 2

....unless it is an mmorpg ... but we all know that this either :

1- will not work because of wii internet history
2- kill the world economy because everyone with less than 30 years (in japan EVERYONE) will stop working/eating to play it =P

This. It's a shame all these wonderful games with timeless gameplay have not-so-timeless graphical output. Nintendo needs to find a way to futureproof their current crop of games so that they'll look decent for those playing them on more modern TVs. Hopefully the Wii2 will be able to upscale current Wii games to near-HD, like a backwards compatible PS3 does with PS2 titles. Also, they need to find a way to fix how blurry certain Virtual Console games look on modern TVs, such as the DKC trilogy...

(I have my Wii hooked up to an SDTV and my PS3 to a HDTV, so it's not an issue for me, but the fact DKC2 looks shit on a HDTV makes me not recommend it to most of my friends when I'd otherwise gift it to them.)

So... It looks like our master list of games is as follows:

- The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
- Mario Sports Mix
- Wii Relax
- Yoshi's Island
- Pikmin
- Wave Race
- Star Fox
- F-Zero
- Pokemon
- Mario Party 9
- Rhythm Heaven
- Another Code R
- Disaster: Day of Crisis
- The Last Story
- Xenoblade
- Fatal Frame 2
- Dragon Quest X

In a magical world where dreams come true, that'd be one hell of a year!

Maybe a Wii redesign? They finally integrated Motion Plus into the standard controller, so perhaps it's time for Nintendo to slim the main console down and make some improvements on the inside, like increasing the system's flash memory from 512MB to something bigger.

I don't know if I want a new Star Fox from Nintendo. All the remake/re-imaginings on the Wii have been whitewashed in terms of presentation (with the exception of Punch-Out!!, which wasn't much of an evolution anyway).

Redesigned to make it better? More like they'll start taking away features like with the GCN redesign.

I only hope for Xenoblade, The Last Story, another Code R, Zangeki no Reginleiv, and Disaster.

If 2011 is a light year for Wii releases, another relatively inexpensive way to keep the system afloat would be to renew Virtual Console support.

Let’s see the VC updated with Clock Tower (in the U.S.), Yoshi’s Island, Earthbound, Pilotwings 64, Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire, Mischief Makers, Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon, Iggy’s Reckin’ Balls, Clay Fighter 63 1/3, Space Station Silicon Valley, Bomberman 64, Body Harvest, Chameleon Twist, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, Donkey Kong 64, Excitebike 64, Beetle Adventure Racing, and so on.

And give us a release calendar telling us which Monday each title will hit, so Wii users have a reason to keep checking on their system periodically.

Hopefully for Europe
The Last Story
and
Xenoblade

I can't understand the hype for Another Code R here , but well maybe because I played it.
Definitly weak compared to Another Code for DS.

It was by no means an all-time classic, but considering how sparse Nintendo's lineup was in 2008, they really should have released it in America as well. Ditto for Disaster and Excitebots (in Europe)

It is one of the most beautiful and atmospheric games on the system though. I think you will agree with me on that one.

They better be bringing Last Story and Monado/Xenoblade.
+1, though I think it's only gonna be one of em, with Last Story being more likely.

Pikmin 3 is no longer a Wii title. You can spit at me and quote Miyamoto from this past E3 a dozen times over and I am fully prepared (and more than happy) to eat crow, but it still won't convince me nor change the fact that Nintendo have backed backed down or retracted such official statements in the past (though that quote, again, is hardly anything "official")

For gut predictions, if any mario-related game is released in the next year it'll be either be as others have said another Mario Party sequel (this one with WM+ features), or a WiiWare title (bolder prediction, Mario Paint WiiWare). The only reason I'm hesitant to predict a new Starfox title for Wii is that we've already got Starfox 64 for 3DS coming (presumably) in the first half of the year. If it does happen, expect it in christmas 2011 and it will be "second-party" developed/rebooted in the same vein as DKCR. More likely however: F-Zero Wii, but internally developed. Surprise announcement of E3? Metroid 3DS title (I could call it Metroid dread, but the actual game probably now falls under the same category of highly experimental prototypes/vaporware like Mario 128) Fall will also see Wii Relax and the Vitality Sensor (definitely the last of Nintendo's Wii peripherals, though not the last in the Wii ___ line). And many forget that DQX was announced AGES ago, though I see that one being pushed more towards 2012

Yes and no , simply because there are games with a similar or better symbiosis between atmosphere and beatiful design AND still added nice gameplay.
For example Okami,Fragile or Muramasa :)

Well even if it was a bit of a dissappointment , I will play it again someday.

And Disaster was just kickass , so yeah I agree in every possible way and vote for an NA release.

Arrrr both were so diffrent expieriences , Another Code a good game while having a calm day to be entertained quietly and Disaster was just pure and awesome action.

Well, of course there's a big difference between what we all want and what Nintendo expects out of the Wii from here on out. I would love to see a new Wave Race in time for summer, it'd be perfect. Let NST do it again, what the heck. But the reality is it'd probably be much better served as a launch title for Super Wii. It's already been nine years since Blue Storm :\

I just want Xenoblade and Last Story. For me, those along with Skyward Sword and Dragon Quest X would be enough to end the Wii's life on a happy note.

What? No! Another Code was a short and mostly boring game that basically stood out because of it's nicely done puzzles.
Another Code R is a beautiful adventure with actual characters that tries to tell a nicely done story. Sure, the puzzles are mostly easy and not as imaginative but besides that it's leagues better than the DS game.

This is my wish list, oh also Mario Sports Mix looks decent.

Mario Sports Mix
Zelda Skyward Sword
Wii Relax
The Last Story (I would think they'd localize this, Xenoblade is a lost cause)
Rhythm Heaven Wii (then again I think the DS one didn't sell that well, so they could skip it)

Rest will be announced at E3
Yoshi Island 3
Starfox
F-Zero
Wave Race
1080
Mario Party 9 Motion Plus
Custom Robo
Chibi Robo 4
etc

If they don't have much they could localize some games but I guess other than maybe Disaster they would all bomb.

I don't expect F-Zero to come back until halfway through 3DS' life.

If it comes out for wii it'll sell 300k tops and it will only bury the series harder.

Let's just wait for HD or 3DS for the next F-Zero. Not that I don't love the series, but I just don't believe there any developer has any chance of topping Amusement Vision's efforts with GX. It is the perfect game for the GCN/wii hardware.

Agreed. Unless they have a vision for it, I'd rather they hold off. I don't want them cranking one out because fans are begging for it, then it gets an 80% Metacritic, the fans backlash, and Iwata puts the IP aside for 20 years.

I live in europe, so Trauma Team.

I know that XenoBlade and Last Story are "??" for west, but I question the fact that Nintendo pays for big games like that and have no plan to localizize them.

I think your wishes are much more "lost causes" to the Wii. 1080 and Wave Race tanked on the Wii, they alsmost killed NST as a valid developer in Nintendo mind. They will not develop a new ChiBi Robo when the failed to localize the NPC ChiBi Robo. Fzero is a tech showcase game, so Wii 2 or 3DS. YI 3, it would be done by Good Feel, so it would take too much time (2012).

This year we learned about -- and then received -- such titles as Kirby's Epic Yarn and Donkey Kong Country Returns. I'm digging the 2D platformer renaissance, so I'm hoping it'll continue in 2011. How about a new Yoshi's Island? Like DKCR, it could be fully constructed of polygons. And like Epic Yarn, it could have an inspired arts-and-crafts aesthetic -- maybe cel-shading with crayon coloring? It'd be a great year-end release, and a fresh way to add another Mario title without it being just another Mario title.

The above is more fantasy than anything; we don't have any reason to suspect there'll be a YI title. But if Nintendo wants to make another 2D platformer, it's certainly a viable franchise to do so.
That's not true at all.

Nintendo of Europe: The gameplay mechanic of sticking out Yoshi’s tongue and shooting eggs at different areas of the screen is something that would really lend itself well to the Wii Remote. Are there any plans for Yoshi’s Island Wii?

Toyokazu Nonaka, Producer of Yoshi’s Island DS
: Any plans for Yoshi’s Island on Wii? Well, I think I will keep that a secret for now!

Nintendo treatment of WM+ is beyond comprehension. They went as far as creating a new wiimote, they bundle it with a B game (FlingSmash) and then there is nothing except Zelda to use it.

My wish list for 2011 in europe is just : Zelda + DQX + XenoBlade + Trauma Team (they published the first two in europe) + Last Story + KuruKurin/Wii Relax (there is a patent by Nintendo aroud it) + Ryrhm Heaven Wii + Mario Sport Mix + Kirby.

From this, Zelda is sure, Kirby is Q1 2011, MSM is January 28th, XEnoBlade/LAst Story/RH/TT are localization affairs. DQX is dependent of DQIX success. Remain RH and Wii Relax.

If DQX's happening in 2011, it's not happening anywhere else until 2012. Also, DQX happening in 2011 is something of a pipe dream.

Unlike Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo is pretty secretive about their upcoming lineup. We knew absolutely nothing about games like Kirby's Epic Yarn and Donkey Kong Country Returns until E3 this year. Hope they will have something in store for 2011 other than Zelda.

I agree with this. I'd have loved an F-Zero Wii a few years ago just because I wouldn't have wanted to wait so long for another game in the series. But now that we have waited so long, we might as well wait a little longer to get HD or 3D. Both would be great additions to the series.

As for the thread's topic, I'm not really expecting much. I sorta expect the Wii lineup next year to basically be Gamecube from '05. Whatever Nintendo or Microsoft or Sony want you to think, this gen's winding down. There might be a few nice surprises left, but I think next year is gonna be dedicated to a good 3DS launch, while 2012 is gonna be about the Wii2.

I am pretty sur Iwata does not want the Wii to finish like the GC. At the end of Gc life, most stores did not even had GC games on shelf. IF they do not do anything, it will be like this, just because of lack of releases.

Actually, the PS3 looks like it's the only one going really strong next year. The Last Guardian, Twisted Metal, (probably) Uncharted 3, LittleBigPlanet 2, inFamous 2, Ratchet: One 4 All, Sorcery, FFvXIII, Killzone 3, Motorstorm: Apocalypse, Disgaea 4, Resistance 3, SOCOM 4, Yakuza 4...

I mean, even if some of those don't make it (like Twisted Metal, Last Guardian, and Uncharted 3), that's still a pretty damn strong lineup.

True, but that's making up for a pretty atrocious year this year as far as the PS3 lineup goes.

Nintendo is all about raising the bar in visuals.

Mario Sports Mix is out in January in Europe and that's a big surprise. There's Kirby in February or March but Kirby games aren't considered important releases here. That leaves Q1/Q2 open for Zelda, the game could hit as early as March or April. Pikmin 3 could be the E3 reveal, but I doubt it'll show up. Nintendo hinted at Wii Music+ and there's a bunch of Japanese titles. For Europe/US we're probably looking at something like this:

Q1 2011
Mario Sports Mix
(delayed Kirby)

Q2 2011
Zelda SkyWard Sword
Rhythm Heaven Wii

Q3 2011
Mario & Sonic at the Olympics 3
The Last Story(if they bring it over)

Q4 2011
Wii Music+
'core' game(Pikmin/Yoshi?)

(Q1 2012
Wii2 launch)

Looking at the gap between Nintendo's awesome releases extravaganza that ended in April 2008 (Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart) and the Wii's second wave of great games (New Super Mario Bros.,Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid: Other M, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Zelda Skyward Sword) that started November 2009 they'd better launch the next wave of awesome games on Wii2 by 2012/2013. For launch Nintendo could easily generate interest in Wii2 by releasing some core franchises in HD. F-Zero HD or New Super Mario World HD would be incredible releases alongside Wii Relax or whatever the next big casual thing is. An online Animal Crossing like world for Mii's build into the console would also be a great killer-app for the casual side of things.

Well that concept was absorbed into Super Mario Galaxy 2 for what it's worth.

But for all the complaining people do about Nintendo needing to create new IPs, it's easy to forget that the Mushroom Kingdom universe is actually full of many quasi unique IPs. Luigi... Donkey Kong (to a lesser extent)... Wario... Yoshi... the Princesses... etc etc.

We've had a Wario and now a DK platformer, the odds are in the last two years of the Wii's life there'll be SOMETHING else from the Mario universe mined into a successful new game/platformer.
