Whatcha Been Playin': Black Friday 2010 Edition

Finished Vanquish and Enslaved recently, so I was thinking about completing Fable III, but I realised I hadn't completed Fable II. I started the game and I'm struggling to get through it, it's just some of the game mechanics are annoying.

Other than that, Fallout: New Vegas of course, I've put 120 hours in :)

Steam has completely fucked up what games I was working on. I'm perfectly fine with this, of course.

Guwange (360), Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood (PS3), Alpha Protocol (PC), VVVVVV (PC).

For some reason, I have been playing Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Not the collection, just the Xbox version through backwards compat.

Reminding me how brilliant this series is, and how much I love the simple joys of platforming, navigating a room and solving spatial puzzles. I love this shit - Tomb Raider is another brilliant example. Could do with less fighting though, there are just too many dudes per encounter, gets really tiring.

I even have the movie to watch this afternoon on BR. Should be a nice tie-in :P

Been playing a bit of Shadow of Destiny/Memories. I've had the game forever, but I've yet to see all the endings so I decided to give it another whirl:

360:

  • Super Meat Boy - such an amazing game, I'm at the last world before the boss and planning to beat the shit out of him today and start the Dark Worlds.
  • Vanquish - At the end of Act 4 in
    the no-gravity Unknown fight
    ...GOTY contender IMO.
  • Deadly Premonition - I'll probably start the game this weekend, from the little I've played I really liked what I saw.

Wii:

  • Goldeneye 007 - I expected a shitty game and I got a really really fun game, loving this so far - btw the controls with a classic controller are so much better.

Working my way through Deadly Premonition and Kens Rage. Maybe I'll even stop totally ignoring Front Mission Evolved and play that abit more. Also won a copy of Quantum Theory so I'll probably give that a look.

Played through Heavy Rain and am surprised by how much of a game it is. There's such a finely tuned ramping up of challenge, while gradually introducting new little interactions. It's cool. I'm not sure I want to play it again. The story I got out of it just rolling with it was already quite satisfying.

Started Enslaved, shook my head for a while, waiting for it to become tolerable. Finally gave up on Wednesday when I hit the robo dog boss fight. Fuck this game. Not worth playing.

Did Vanquish in poop-sock mode, two sittings and I was through. So good. Now I want to do it again on God Hard. I like what they did with the weapon upgrading system, really rewards you for sticking it out with weapons you want to use.

Played another act of Bayonetta. Still great. Everyone knows this, right?

Haven't played dick since my TV fritzed on Wednesday. :'(

That said, my current rotation includes:

Demon's Souls
GT5
Deadly Premonition
BFBC2
MLB 10
Dante's Inferno

Playing through Dead Rising 2 currently. Still have Castlevania and Vanquish shrink-wrapped on my desk and Fable 3, Halo Reach, and AC Brotherhood on the way from Amazong.

Juggling a bit too many games at the moment:

1. Gran Turismo 5 (have only managed a couple of hours since Wednesday)
2. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (the perfect complement to GT5)
3. Vanquish (finished it earlier today, amazing game)
4. Fallout: New Vegas (have spent ~55 hours so far in the game, and I still have to finish it! Too bad some bugs are bugging me, no pun intended)
5. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (since I don't find the game very captivating, it's on the backburner for now)

Assassin's Creed 2

Picked it up for $15 at Gamefly a couple months back. It pays to stay one year behind the new releases! Brotherhood will likely be my 2011 black Friday game.

Mostly Black Ops, but not nearly as interested in it as I was MW2 a year ago.

December 7th is coming soon - I really don't want to resub to WoW but I have the collector's edition on preorder from Amazon.

Finished the main game, but I'm now returning to levels to get all the Kong letters. Need to beat all the hard K stages. Game's so awesome, you have to do and see everything. I'm considering getting a classic controller now that the homebrew fix is out.

I won't get GT5 until next week so i've been playing this:

Had this on my backlog since like 6 months ago. Enjoying it so far.

Just finished up The Witcher after buying the download for 6 bucks at Amazon last week. Just as good as everyone says it is. And funnier than I thought it would be - that bit where
Geralt and the King are haggling about the price of killing the last Big Bad and Geralt says "I'm a witcher, not a hit...OK 10,000" :lol
Combat was not very good though. I hope the second game improves on that aspect quite a bit.

I'm seriously considering picking up Witcher 2 CE's with the stupid bust (not because I want the bust, but I love the "decision" artwork in the first game and I'm hoping the artbook for the 2nd game is filled with the same sorts of images). But oof, expensive.

Black Ops- Running through this on veteran, and by running through I mean getting mad that my team runs up to a point, and when i try and run to them they dont bother killing the enemy standing right next to them that kills me

Crouching is your only friend in this game.

GT5

Picked up Mass Effect 2 and Kane and Lynch 2 on the cheap but there's no way I'm going to be playing them any time soon. GT5 is just too good.

I bought the Dragon Age Ultimate Edition and catching up on the DLC, I just finished Darkspawn Chronicles and it was the worst one so far.

Just picked this up as well for $20. I never read a single thing about the sequal after being so burned by AC1...only to learn not that it is a really good game :D

World of Warcraft - Patch 4.0.3a

Loving every single change that has come with The Shattering, and my new dwarf shaman is all sorts of awesome :D Dec. 7th can't come fast enough.

This will be my whole weekend, essentially.

Also beginning my third playthrough of Red Dead Redemption, this time with the mini-map and aim-assist turned off, trying to play through it on an authentic level of difficulty.

All on PS3.

Gran Turismo 5 - Just starting out, getting my first B license. Love the game but the install/loading is insane.
NBA 2K11 - Playing my association with the Spurs. Currently 7-2, love the challenge of the game without feeling (too) cheap.
Pac-Man Championship Edition DX - Have only gotten to play it a few times but love it, just like I did Geometry Wars 2. Great fun.
Batman: Arkham Asylum - Just about to unwrap and start. Got it recently for $14.99.

Heavy Rain- Kicking myself for not playing this sooner. Things are getting pretty crazy in the story and things it has me doing. So many moments where I am saying, "Damn. I have never done that in a game before!"

Metal Gear: Peace Walker- After about ten or so missions I have finally started to enjoy this game more. Mostly because I figured out which controller scheme I want to use, and understanding the basics of the controls as well.

Metal Gear 4- Been a while since I played through it. Still as great as I remember it. I never listened to all podcasts that you listen to while playing the game so I should make that as one of my goals.

I picked up GT5 but I am having a hard time getting into it. Not my type of game I guess. Will probably trade it towards Golden Sun, or Mario Galaxy 2 (which I have yet to play).

^^ This is filling the adventure game void quite nicely.

i should probably note im not actually playing it, but watching a video walkthrough of someone playing it at gameanyone.com since its not out in NA yet.

Plus some Halo Reach and PES 2011 here and there as usual.

Just got Kinect Sports, Dance Central and New Vegas, can't wait to get into those.
