What's on the horizon for 360?

Himuro said:
I didn't say I want to rent them. But if pressed, I'd certainly rather rent than buy.

Shit, man. Just sell your 360, it really doesn't make you come off as less of a troll to own both systems. Buy some PS3/PC games. Have fun.

Himuro said:
I didn't say it wasn't strong everywhere. Didn't I say one of my biggest problems this gen is the lack of original content? The difference is, I actually WANTED to play Uncharted 2 whereas I could give two craps about Halo ODST.

So the 360 has plenty of good exclusives but you dont like them. Great. Sell your 360.

Himuro said:
It definitely is. That's one problem I have with this gen and why I find ps3 and pc more appealing: original content and new ip's. I was hoping 360 would have some stuff under the radar I haven't heard of but would be appealing to me, but apparently, according to these lists, I was dead wrong.

Your asking for the impossible. Asking people to list 2010 games that are under the radar yet exclusive? Nobody has a clue what ''under the radar'' games will be released next year because they are under the radar :lol.

As for original content try looking in the XBLA and Indie games section.

Play Gears 2 then. Uncharted basically ripped the cover/shooting mechanics from Gears anyway (Operation Winback yeah right) and seeing how Uncharted 2 is about 75% shooting you should enjoy Gears 2.

The overwhelming majority of that list, sans Alan Wake, ARE sequels. So why are you arguing this? Alan Wake is the one exception, in which case, my bad. But I still rest my case. Acting like there's NO POSSIBLE WAY EVER that someone who really doesn't follow games news so much anymore but is still a fan of games doesn't know of those games is really cutting it.

If you dont have a problem with PS3 Sequels, but have problems with Xbox360 Sequels and just cant find compeling conent there. Just sell the thing. Its the prudent choice.

Dax01 said:
Whether or not it's disingenuous. He just labeled all the games as "sequels" and said, "Meh, I don't want any." Reach could be a new take on Halo's multiplayer (and it looks like it will), so the distinction can be there.

Not really. In any real sense, it's a sequel; they made Halo, then they made this for people who want more. Narrative position and new tricks are irrelevant, unless you want to argue that there are no sequels in Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest.

There is zero reason to own a console if you own a pc.

Playing a console on a 65" Plasma while sitting on the couch is more convenient and comfortable than a playing on PC. There's one reason. Nyeh!

It's certainly possible that it can be pulled off, a Japanese developer going from announcement to release of a port in 9 months just isn't very encouraging at all. Hopefully we'll see some play impressions or a demo before launch.

You cannot move the characters with the analog sticks. The d-pad is used because you're doing precise, digital directional input, which as implemented really does need to be precise and digital.

Final Fantasy XIII was announced for the 360 in June of 2008. It will be 21 months from initial announcement to shipment in NA. More than enough time.

Seriously. Gaming is supposed to be fun and stuff. Any one who frequents GAF regularly won't likely get blindsided by an amazing game out of nowhere. Everyone knows what's coming out. You hate Live you hate Halo you hate every popular 360 franchise. It's clear, as I said, the 360 is not for you. If you need the money, sell it. There's no secret games on the horizon being hidden from you or anything. It is what it is.

Himuro said:
I'm not. But I know of them. Sorry for expecting 360 to have more low key releases that appeal to me?

I picked out my favorite. Since when can you see anything low key on the horizon?

I yield to the Big Comfy Couch.

I've been seeing a lot of retailers bundling PCs with couches lately.

:lol Don't try and change the definition of a prequel or a sequel, because the "real sense" is that, since Reach takes place before the first game, it's a prequel.

FFXIII for 360 was announced in June 2008. It ships in March 2010. That's not 9 months. Not to mention that we're assuming they started porting when they announced it. Didn't they tout Crystal Tools as a highly modular engine, which would make multiplatform development easier?

You cannot move the characters with the analog sticks. The d-pad is used because you're doing precise, digital directional input, which as implemented really does need to be precise and digital.
Because it's so difficult to use analog sticks to click on menu choices in FFXII, or, hell, any JRPG since? This makes absolutely no sense.

This guy is a (not so) stealth troll. He's pretty pathetic.

He claims to have both systems...but a crappy 3rd party game not being exclusive to PS3 hurts him. He wouldn't buy GTA on the 360. He would rather not play Bayonetta than play it on the 360.

Don't bother responding to this loser.
..but still you went through all that trouble to find my posts. I thought my "side" was discovered ages ago.

Why didn't you include this one http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=18978736#post18978736 ?

I play my multiplatforms on the PS3, why? 360's 20(13GB) HDD is full thanks to Forza 3 and I don't want to listen to that horrible DVD-drive and I prefer the DS3.

But if you're so butt-hurt, I can take a picture of my 360/games when I get home this wednesday.

That "loser" really got me.

Not a surprise.

That really isn't true. I frequent GAF regularly, but before Braid came out, I had never heard of it -- I found out about it, I think, a week or so before its release when some friends mentioned it. It had completely escaped my notice. Similarly, Darksiders (a game I'm now interested in) was completely off my radar until very recently, and if you look at the official thread you'll find a bunch of other people that had also completely dismissed it mentally but are now planning on buying the game.

There are plenty of games that are under the radar in the sense that they're not the huge blockbuster tentpole releases everyone here uses as part of the hyping console wars, and it's fair to ask about stuff like that.

Mandoric is pretending to operate under the theory that Square Enix didn't begin the porting process until FF13 for PS3 shipped in Japan, even though when Square said this is what they were doing it was a lie, not only because it completely defies common sense and proper developmental practices but because the game was in testing for 360 well before the PS3 version shipped.

Wouldn't that put it at 4 months then? FFXIII must suck if they can port it in such a small amount of time. Hopefully it takes FFXIV longer to get ported so that it's better.

I could've sworn it was an '09 announcement. If it's '08, that makes the best case a bit better and the worst case a lot better.
On the other hand, that still leaves the confirmed cinematics and voicing downgrades, and potential control issues; it's still not going to be the version you reasonably buy if you have both consoles or neither, just good enough if you have the one.

No, I'm honestly stupid and remembered it being from E3 '09, which would leave 9 months from announce, 9-21 from serious planning work starting. I've been corrected, it's 21-33 which is more than enough, and I'm far more optimistic about it being perfectly servicable now.

IIRC, they stated at E3 that the porting process began in April 2009 around the time the demo was released in Japan.

Bullshit.

i have all the consoles and a gaming pc, I agree with his statement,

heavy rain is the only "cant get it on my pc" game im even looking to buying next year.

i bought uncharted 2 and demon souls, cant get into em, although demon souls id prolly like more uncharted 2 just seems like abercrombie raider (i wasnt gaga over tomb raider back in the day either).

wait maybe dead rising 2 also (unless thats gonna be on pc).

i would have had buyers remorse on my ps3 if I actually paid for it, luckily I got the 80gig bc mgs4 bundle in summer 08 with mah stimulus money. Ive bought most of its exclusives (cept resistance) and eh just doesnt do it for me, I like pain though in short burts. And heavy rain should be decent, and I havent kept up on it, but I assume the ps3 version of ff13 will be the best one, no?

Wait someone want to confirm this analog movement thing? This is really important to me.

And how in the world is digital input more precise than analog movement in a 3D game?

You don't control character movement in battle, you just enter commands on a classic FF-style menu. You do, however, move with the stick on the map; I'd specified battle in my first post about it but it kinda got lost in quoting.

Weird. Are you sure they don't let you use the stick or the d-pad? During battle is the stick used for something else?

Because it's so difficult to use analog sticks to click on menu choices in FFXII, or, hell, any JRPG since mid-PSOne? This makes absolutely no sense.

I honestly haven't tried the stick, I can't imagine anyone ever wanting to use it with its tendency to register accidental diagonals or an opposite direction springing back from a press. :lol It's definitely listed in the manual as pad only for battle commands, stick only for map movement and summon commands. Summon commands are only entered from a special submenu that doesn't use the pad, though, so it's not a conflict issue.

Edit: Just booted it back up, stick is definitely nonfunctional in the main menu and in the battle menus.

Did 12 let you? I can't remember. I know 11 was pad only for menus and stick only for movement too.

I play my 360 (sometimes) but I wont buy alan wake for remedy's selling out (unless its released on pc).

So, Yes even though I own a 360 and would have liked to play alan wake, I will not. I dont reward failure. I did the same about MW2, and as you can see from my lists (and steam list) I stuck to my guns.
