What's the best console this gen for Local Multiplayer?

I dunno, Wii's multiplayer games are great and all, but I've probably had just as much fun, if not more, with co-op games on my 360. The only really notable co-op game on Wii is Brawl's Adventure mode.

PS3 for sports games, 7 controllers > 4 controllers.
Buzz with 8 controllers is fun also.
More people playing is better than watching and taking turns.

Team Fortress 2 in my uni's games room is the best local multiplayer I've had since SSBM on the GCN =)

TF2 is a great game (I have it), but it's not a game you can conveniently play in a room with 3 friends. You need more than one computer, and the room to fit them all. Consoles will always trounce PCs for local multiplayer because they're way more convenient to use for that purpose.

It's okay though, I still like TF2, but that's an online multiplayer affair as far as I'm concerned.

On topic, even though I already said it: the Wii.

Definitely, but if you have the means to do so - like a room already set up with computers more than capable of playing it - then it's a blast and I'd highly recommend trying it out.

Wii definitely has more diverse local multiplayer options, I suspect. From a personal standpoint, though, the Wii was dumped by the wayside by all my family ages ago so the only time I play local multiplayer is when my family comes over to play 1v100 on 360. I suspect they'll get bored of that in a few weeks too.

My friends occasionally play Street Fighter IV and UFC too but that's it

I'd probably say it depends on the preference, but for party type games, the Wii for sure. PS3/360 are probably about even with a slight edge to the 360 for having certain exclusives that are coop/multi (like Gears of War, Halo, etc.) Most of the great PS3 games are generally single player experiences (Uncharted, MGS4, Heavenly Sword, etc.) save for LittleBIGPlanet.

As a general rule, the Wii. 360/PS3 multiplayer games are generally not geared for split screen, and are more apt to online. The Wii on the other hand is tagged as a more social console, since the experience also exists in the room, and not just on the TV.

Yeah, when I think local multiplayer, I generally think of party games or anything suitable for 4 players. The 360 totally has the overall edge regarding coop, and the 360/PS3 are where the fighting games are this generation.

Well, I hardly have the means to do it, and only got one friend who has the game like me, so... :p

Wii, even though it's weak in big multiplayer genres like fighting games and shooters. Nintendo puts a bigger emphasis on local multiplayer than any other publisher.

Wii

Though all 3 are sorta lacking atm (two of the 3 games I listed aren't out yet, though I have the jp version of scramble), the Wii is still the clear winner

Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Melee! Pokemon Scramble
New Super Mario Bros. Wii

These 3 games will keep any group occupied until the end of time. There's also the whole cube library. FourSwordsAdventuresmirite?

The Wii, especially with a combination of Virtual Console + GCN b/w compatibility you're golden. Wii Sports Resort is a must buy.

OMG THAT'S A GREAT IDEA! I've never played it before, but it sounds fucking awesome. It's definitely gonna me the next game I pick up.

I'd say PS3 if mine had PS2 backward compatibility.

Otherwise, Wii, I guess. Haven't done much local mutliplayer much this gen...

Wii
tons of multi retail games plus tons of multi Wiiware games plus megatons of super-awesome multi VC games plus tons of supercheap great GC games

no contest

360 how is that even a question? Do you know how many great arcade local multiplayer games there are?

Wii.

With the focus of the Wii (social gaming) and the backlog of fantastic local multiplayer titles available on Virtual Console, it's really no contest.
