What's The First Game You Played On An HD Tevelsion?

Just booted up Soul Calibur 2 for the heck of it. Yep, still looks good (even if it was a 4:3 720p)

Final Fantasy XIII my eyes have been spoiled since. Man that game looks good. Then a week or two later God of War 3 came out and I felt like I was in the next generation.

Back in 2005 when I got my big Sony 46" rear projection (which lasted through college but became too much of a hassle to keep moving around).

It was an SD game. It was on the GameCube. It was with composite cables. It was Resident Evil 4. And it looked...hideous.

I ordered component cables that day. I've never used composite against since, for anything.

i believe it was Mario Galaxy in 2007.

the fact that it was a 32 inch plasma helped a lot since, at that size, Wii stuff looks pretty good.

PGR3

Got a cheap 720p HDTV a few months after the 360 came out. DOA4 was the game that really sold me on it, though.

Had a gigantic 32" Samsung 4:3 CRT (in mass, not screen size) that I used to play my GC, Xbox and PS2 on. So probably a Gamecube game. On that.

Well, I played COD2 demo at a store prior to the 360 launch, but at home I believe gears of war....

Here was my setup in 2005: (27" tube)

I've had a 27" and 32" LCD HDTV as well, both "olevia" branded...

Now in 2012: ( I actually have a center channel and 2 rears now) -- (47" LG LED backlit, not edge lit)

Hoping my next tv to either be a panny plasma or wait for OLED to kick off.

King Kong. On my wonderful $300 iLo TV from Walmart. Thing had 1 component slot and was generic as hell.

But yeah, that'd be it.

Call of Duty 2. Remember playing it for the first time on a HDTV in a shop and falling in love with it. Ended up walking out with a 32" LCD, 360 and some games. :D

We bought our first HDTV during the last generation so DOA3 was the first game I tested and I remember being completely floored.

Super Mario Galaxy in 2007 on a 32" Samsung LCD. The first true HD experience I had with it was when i got my first 360 in 2008 with GTA IV.

I think it was most likely Unreal Tournament '99 @ 1024x768 but I might have played Quake 2 on my SLI Voodoo 2 setup at that resolution, granted I think both were only 16bit colors.

If were are talking console only, even if it isn't 720p, I would count VGA out on Dreamcast's Soul Calibur.

I think the first real HDTV "in home" experience for me was Xbox's MX Unleashed at a buddies house.

Running on my own gear, it had to have been Gears of War.

I believe it was LoZ: Twilight Princess, and it looked like shit. I would later find out that all Wii games look like ass on a 57 inch plasma.

Still loved the game though.

Surprising how many GAFers did not get into HD until this gen or even deep into this gen.

Not sure what you mean.

This gen is technically the first real one offering HD graphics by default(OG XBOX not counted nor something like GT4 on PS2). I guess I played my XBOX/PS2/Dreamcast on my HDTV but I don't think that was the intent of this thread.

If you brought PC/monitors into the equation I am sure it would be much much earlier.

I'm not entirely sure. I know for a fact that my 360 was always hooked up to an HDTV, so I'm thinking King Kong or Perfect Dark Zero here.

Either Lost Planet or Gears of War sometime in early 2007. Think I had already played through both games on an SDTV then played through them again in HD.

Dead Rising. I thought the reports of people saying you couldn't read the text on an SDTV were exaggerations, found out they were wrong.

MotorStorm on PS3 EU launch. Already had a 37" Sharp Aquos (1080p) a few months before that. Needless to say it was glorious. First HD-movie was the free Casino Royale I got from Sony as well.

First game I remember trying on an HDTV was Gran Turismo 4.
Turned out to be even worse then I already expected. Horrible image quality compared to my CRT-TV (I didn't have a component cable though, so a part of the blame might go to that).

The first HD game I played on an HDTV was Virtua Fighter 5 which I bought together with my PS3 in 2010, shortly after followed by Final Fantasy XIII and God of War 3.
Looked decent, but certainly not special since I had been playing PC games in HD for nearly 10 years.

I'm thinking Xmen: Legends on the OG Xbox was like 480p or 720p or something. That's the first one I remember anyways. I had an HDTV before the video games really caught up.
