Yeah, I gotta say this is just ridiculous.sn00zer said:Fucking China...what is with them and ripping off everything? Is it a cultural thing?
They have the IP laws now. It is more a matter of enforcing them.demosthenes said:A lot of chinese businesses take advantage of the lackluster IP laws in their country and copy what they see in the outside world. They do this b/c it's easier than starting from scratch. They have been in fact doing this for decades. China is not a developing economy anymore but a developed one and should get their IP laws in order. The reason this gets so much attention is most likely b/c China isn't a developing nation anymore.
Has that worked with anything else?speculawyer said:The rest of the world needs to collectively lean on China and get them to enforce IP laws.
The only good thing to come of this?balladofwindfishes said:The geniuses in the TF2 community are already working on a "Final Combat" pack which ports these models to TF2 xD

Hardly. A lot of these games may look similar, but the mechanics are very, very different. That other TF2 "clone," HAVE Online/Microvolts actually plays a lot like a 3rd person Unreal Tournament game, despite the trailer aping TF2 for all it was worth.TheOGB said:Other than a vanilla-TF2 alternative for individuals who are not fans of hats?

you might as well just play TF:C thenAbsoluteZero said:If they can make it like Vanilla TF2 I'll play it.
They threw too many variables into mix in the current iteration of TF2 and it completely turned me off to the game.
Yup.speculawyer said:They have the IP laws now. It is more a matter of enforcing them.
It will cost you a lot of money to get some operation closed down . . . and then it will just re-open under a new name.

It's funny seeing people trying to defend them though.

No. There are tons of cosmetic items, to be sure, but they don't really account for all that space. There have been many bugfixes, new maps, new weapons, and new features (a replay editor and a coaching system are the newest additions). At launch the game had 6 maps built into the client, now it has 50.fizzelopeguss said:Went to try it out again the other day and noticed it's a 10 gig client, is it really bloated to fuck with all that hat bollocks?
Haha. You caught me off guard.webrunner said:Look, it's a hamper full of "cosmetic items":

There are four or five weapons that are imbalanced, but the vast majority of them are pretty balanced with their vanilla counterparts. Have you at least read up on how the game has changed since the medic update? During the first classes updates the only way to get the new weapons was to hit the achievement milestones. You can still get them that way (and most other classes have much easier achievements than the medic ones), but you also get 6~12 random weapons each week just by playing. You can also trade and craft weapons using weapons you don't want. If you're still too impatient for that you can also buy weapons from the in-game store with real money (most people don't bother). It should never take more than a week to get any particular weapon. Hell, most people will give you weapons for free if they have an extra one.Zefah said:I stopped playing TF2 when they did the first class revamp (the Medic?) and started adding in alternative unlockable weapons.
I'll just stick to TFC, where I can at least expect a level playing field.

Anyway, TF2 being "big" pretty much already came prior to hats. Besides, peopel clamoring for Vanilla TF2 pretty much forgot how unbalanced that was.
bananabread said:If by Vanilla then you mean at launch (when soldiers only took 60% damage from their own rockets and pipes could still impact on players on the first bounce) then I'd be forced to agree with you.
TF2 just after the medic/goldrush update remains one of the most tightly balanced games ever though. Everything after that is downhill.
Ookami-kun said:You mean post Engineer. Since after medic still has weird shit like Demomen.
lol came in to post exactly thisConfidence Man said:Will probably be better than TF2 without weapon drops, hats, and all the associated bullshit.

Hold on, that sounds wrong. Here, do the math yourself, I'm too lazy. It's nowhere near half anyway.

DarthWoo said:Be that as it may, that still makes you feel justified as labeling all Chinese as counterfeiters? (And by the way, monetary value isn't necessarily the best indicator of volume of good, considering that a huge amount of relatively cheap goods would presumably be from China, including textiles and low-value items.)
