What's up with all the FFXV hate?

I was actually totally intending to buy it until I played the Platinum demo. Game feels like absolute shit to play. Like, no hyperbole, it just feels straight up bad. I don't think anyone would be trying to defend it if it wasn't a Final Fantasy game; if it was just some new IP and it played like this you'd dump it straight away. It's exactly the wrong mix between turn-based RPG and action gameplay. You either hold the buttons down and watch while the game plays itself, or you tap the buttons and suffer through the most unresponsive action game you've ever played.

I mean, maybe it gets more complicated when you have more abilities later in the game, but I wouldn't know from that fucking E3 demo they showed. A giant man swipes his forearm at you and you dodge it for three straight minutes. I couldn't believe they'd picked that part to show on stage.

Yup, game feels like hot garbage. All I could think of while seeing the demo boss fight where the guy kept getting smashed by the giant fist was that the two second input delay was probably messing his dodge rolls up.

As a massive Final Fantasy fan since the SNES days and even enjoying FFXIII games, even I have my doubts to the overall quality of this title.

I just don't think it'll be anything like one of the best games of this gen or the best FF game that Square seem to think it is.

It looks like it's gone through development hell and it shows especially in the recent demos and showings at E3.

I am looking forward to finally playing it but nowhere near as much as I felt with past FF games. In some ways I'm looking forward more to the FFXII remaster and World of FF. The last ten years have literally taken the steam out of it for me. A lot of games have surpassed it already from the looks of it (from a gameplay perspective) look at what Witcher has done for open world single player RPG's for example.

Trouble with the way they've showed this game is they've made it out to be this amazing open world game but a lot of games have come and gone that have been doing this type of thing better years ago. What they are showing now is nothing special. It's just taken so long to come out it's become "yet another open world game".

I expect negative criticism from the camera, framerate drops, nonsensical story, and actually not a lot to do in the game seeing as it's open world once reviews hit.

We'll see but I expect mostly 7's and some 8's from reviews which is a shame but it probably deserves it and certainly nothing like what Square wants i'd imagine. But it's completely their own fault for not listening to fans and losing track of what makes a FF game.

Holy god I just discovered they just redesigned another character Gladios dad and its disgusting.

You know what, for once I really don't get it. I've enjoyed the demos so far, as well as the trailers and demonstrations sans the Xbox conference one from earlier this week. I don't find the framerate or image quality to be particularly bad, and I've been primarily a PC gamer since Half-Life 2's launch, with a steam account to prove it. I really don't get the suspicion and negativity surrounding this game, and if that makes me the minority for once then...cool. I think it looks fun, and what I've played so far was not only fun but even brought a smile to my face.

I'm noticing a stark contrast between what I read about FFXV on GAF/reddit and what I read about it on my twitter feed. I guess the game's doing a poor job demonstrating competence to the more enthusiast forum crowd. Everyone I personally know who likes RPGs is nothing but hype for FFXV, but at the same time it's probably safe to say that none of them are as discerning as the typical user you'd meet on here.

they showed us wayyy too much before release. So many wonderful surprises are now wasted.

After a bad E3 showing we are just jaded now.

Well for one we never got the name of that character in the 2013 trailer. Many actually assume it would be Noctis's uncle cause of the Hamlet motifs.

Secondly there's nothing wrong with that design except for the fact that you've grown attached to the Versus/Nomura designs.

Looks exactly how I would image Gladios dad. Red eyes just like him and long hair.

You see this guy at Regis' side in the 2013 and 2014 trailer. This is Regis' right hand man and is confirmed in the movie to be basically the same role, but now he is buzzcut and looks just ugh wth

The leaker even stated that the image I posted of the old design is gone.

You do realize there are just as many games that doesn't have Nomura as the main designer since VII and it's his games aside from one have the best sales and some of the highest ratings right?

Nomura - VII, VIII, X, XIII.

Not Nomura - IX, XI, XIII, XIV

You listed XIII twice.

But yes, I'm aware. Nothing in my post said otherwise. Nomura's mallcore j-pop aesthetic certainly has its fans, but I'm not one of them. I enjoy VII and X in spite of Nomura's designs, not because of them. Frankly, Cloud and Sephiroth looked cooler when I was 13. Whereas Locke and Terra still look appealing.

So what is it about FFXV that makes it not an FF game?
They've added in all this stuff in the game that no one asked for. Road trip story that looks boring, making it a driving simulator in some of its sections with annoying party members, open world seems empty, controls are laggy and sluggish just for the sake of it being "more realistic". Combat system is something more akin to Devil May Cry and it doesn't seem anywhere near as good either.

Damn. I really loved the original design, and was so curious to see how the character was plot relevant. I can't say the replacement design does much for me, and does seem to continue the FFXV trend of sons looking nothing like their fathers. I'm now waiting for the plot twist reveal of both Noctis and Gladio being adopted.

Now he looks even more like Noctics' evil uncle lol.

I don't have hate for it, other than their demo this E3, and the VR stuff looked garbage. Part of that demo sucking was the person playing was awful, but the fight itself was just another example of how often fighting large bosses can be boring to actually do.

It's hard for me to get too excited for the game, because each time I see it they show some new weird thing that alters my impression of what the game is even going to be. Intriguing is what I give it more than excitement, and I'm probably going to wait on the inevitable PC version.

weird, I must be out of the loop. not only did I not realize there was any hate for xv, but at this magnitude. I thought the first demo was pretty neat, and the e3 demo looked pretty cool, but then again I haven't invested that much interest in versus 13.

Ugh damn Phone. Meant XII.

And you did say that when you claimed Nomura dominated the series since VII. When half of the content is not his then he has not dominated it at all.

They changed too much from FF Versus to carry all that hype however FFXV is still certainly looking amazing.

Graphics - phenomenal
OST - GOAT
Story/Characters - still captivating

The only iffy thing in this game is the battle system, which despite having 2 demos, has still not won we over.

But again, we don't if it was him or not.

Do we know whether this rumor of FF XV's disastrous development has any merit?

Im starting to think so.

Gonna compile the spoilers together and show how much proof is in it with images text and links to Tabata himself confirming many of the rumors.

Whoever this leaker is everything is becoming more true especially as of this redesign of Gladios dad.

im still excited for the game, if people want to hate on it, then let them. It means literally nothing until the game actually comes out

People have this weird notion that they need to join a bandwagon of hype to enjoy the game, and thus they freak out if the game doesnt have that hype. I remember when Brink was the īnternets darling before it released. literally none of this means anything until we get to play it.

Well, i love it and it's my most wanted game this year, but i kinda understand why so many people are turn off by this game.

First of all, FFXIII-Trilogy was terrible, second, the way FFXV was demonstrated, it kinda pissed people of. I still can't understand why the hell did they put out that platinum demo? Did they really think, people are gonna be hyped after that? Then the E3 presentation was just awful, GC last year was awful. The combat system isn't that good, and now we have wait mode, they are just trying to please everyone, and i'm not sure that will work.

Personally, i still think this game is gona be awesome, and i've been waiting 10 years to play a good ff game... ff12 was released in 2006, the last really good ff game.

Every game in the series has things added to it that a previous game didn't have that no one asks for.

There isn't a list of arbitrary check marks that need to filled that quantifies what constitutes an FF game considering how each game in the series outside of some notable naming conventions and monster designs, usually has a different world, characters, and setting every time.

I was just playing the platinum demo and my ps4 died. Jumped into the water, then hear a loud pop and the system is just dead now.

You could say I hate it for killing my system... I'll still get it though... Though I may just wait to buy a Neo first. :/

You're primarily a PC gamer and you don't see how awful the image quality is? This from the latest batch of PR shots.

To be completely fair, SE have been horrid at their PR shots. Its like reverse Bullshots with them. Its been like that with this game since its reannouncment.

Hmm...a loud popping sound?

Do you have a 2.5 HDD lying around. If so, do you think you could replace the drive in your PS4 with it.

Hold down the power button on the PS4 and continue to hold it down until you hear a beep, and then another beep 7 seconds later. This will let you get into the Diagnostics Menu for your console.

If you cannot do this this will eliminate the possibility that your console is truly dead. and narrow down that the HDD in the console just crashed instead.

I think our old friend Final Fantasy 15 is getting a lot of unnecessary hate guys. Yes Zelda and Persona are phenomenal. Yes the game has been in development for like a decade. Yeah yeah, I watched the same Xbox One demo reel you did. It was pretty bad. But it's actually here. Final Fantasy Versus XIII. FFXV. It's coming out in like 3 months. And not only that, but it's incredible.

the almost complete lack of deserved hype for FFXV after this E3 makes me sad. It really is an amazing game, that you might have to actually play to truly appreciate.

I am sure that game will be in the NeoGaf top 10 of E3

Correct. Maybe I'm just not sitting close enough, and I'll readily concede that there must be problems with it considering what a common criticism it's been on here, but I haven't felt my enjoyment hampered in the slightest by the game's image quality and don't personally see what all the fuss is about.

Personally I haven't liked the look of it ever since Versus was first announced. A combination of things since (open world, the character designs, no character switching, the batmobile) have only put me off more

Don't have a 2.5HDD laying around.
Can't access diagnostics. I sometimes get the system to do the start beep, but then it immediately shuts off. other times I can't even get that start beep.

You're right about the IQ being a dissapoitnment, but judge that area in motion.

Some games don't screenshot so well and this is one of them.

Yeah, I always look at screenshots and think "that looks bad", then go play Episode Duscae or Platinum Demo and think it's all fine. And I usually play on PC with 980ti so it's not like I'm not used to good IQ.

Well.. When FF7r got revealed some complained about how Barret and Cloud look rediculous now which i find hilarious. I think there's a portion of the western fanbase that wants the series aesthetics to mature and grow alongside them. Which is why you get so much love for the Kingsglave cast but mind you everyone is entirely wearing black lol but since they don't look "anime" all is fine.

Huh. People complained about Cloud being too skinny but I don't think I've seen the same kind of complaints about FF7r's overall look myself. Which I've assumed was because it's more visually consistent with it's deliberately deformed character designs(similar to what the Arkham games did).

Nah.

FFXV is a failure of a pet project that took years to get off the ground due to idea tinkering and flawed engine.

If anything, I can't wait for XVI to be made on a completely clean slate. I cannot wait for the XV nightmare to be over and us Final Fantasy fans can finally move on from the failure that was Yuichi Wada, closed theaters, and Fabula Nova Crystalis. Thank Christ this shit ends in three months and we're finally free, people.

Agreed.

I'll enjoy it for what it is but the series is in desperate need of a clean slate.

Except the iq's been a mess in person ever since duscae and it's only gotten worse.

i already thought it was bad before the screens were released.

what. this is probably the nastiest footage i've seen yet in terms of iq lol. but i'm blaming it on youtube compression because it always ruins detailed videos in motion.

and it still looked bad in the hq upload on gamersyde.

I'm happy I'm on blackout so still expect to be blown away.

I'll only be worried if the final game is getting really low reviews and bad user impressions.

FFXV hate is to be expected to be honest since no one trusts SE but I've liked their recent outputs.

Have you guys seen this ps4 version of the titan demo from e3? She played so much better than the SE rep.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaCmM3KTPjk

So awesome!

<insert witty fanboy remark of PS4 playing better>

I only played the platinum demo and the game looks really good in motion, sure it suffers from ailising issues alot. But the day to night transitions looked sublime.

I think I am going to enjoy the game, but I hope to play it on PC.

They wasted an entire generation on XIII and its sequels last gen. The recent demo was extremely awkward and technically unconvincing. And while I love the concept and artdirection, I have zero trust that there will be a plot somewhat decent at this point. This is what Square sowed by treating their franchise like this. If it is a good game, I will celebrate it loudly, but I am not hyping myself for it. I do, however, hope for the best.

Also, I absolutely can't handle the chibi stuff in WoFF, so that one is not for me, unfortunately.
