What's up with all the FFXV hate?

I don't really feel that way about the chocobos in Final Fantasy XV. The reason why, is that there is lots of wildlife in the game, and chocobos fit in, in that sense.

Also: no doubt you will be traversing areas where your car can not reach. So, it makes sense that then, you will ride a chocobo because you have no other option. Them dressing like city boys doesn't have much to do with it.
I think that we only ever see them in their city-boy clothes is what kills the believability factor.

Yeah am not that excited about the game anymore but am buying it day 1 just for all the years of waiting plus am sure its going to be a fun decent game.

Yeah, that's true. I've seen videos where they are wearing slightly different clothes, so I think there is some level of visual customization. I do think that they will mostly always be fancy clothes, though. It would be really nice though if you could dress them up however you want at a certain point in the game.

Identify what is different.

It will be interesting to see how this game is received. Even on launch Final Fantasy 13 had a lot of people criticizing it. However, the Final Fantasy name was influential enough to guard it from too much criticism critically. I don't know if the name still has that kind of power. I could see FFXV being a much better game, with a few problems, and receiving far lower scores.

Hopefully it is just unquestionably awesome and everyone loves it.

Noctis and his bros riding chocobos is no more ridiculous than seeing someone like Cloud riding a chocobo.

There's some major nitpicking going on in this thread.

Play and anticipate games for what they are, not for what you'd want them to be.
I think that's the problem of many people here, and the main issue "Final Fantasy" has.
Bitching bitching and bitching instead of accepting games for what they are; we haven't played it, stop being biased with irrational thinking that happens because of overthinking, take a big and deep breath, relax, wait until the game releases... don't make assumptions or daydream about how you'd like the game to be.

Enjoy it for what it is when it releases. If it ends up being an 8/10 game? oh well... maybe next time. It ends up being an excelent game but you'd like it to be somewhat different? go play another franchise and/or wait for the next installment.

FFXIII faced the same problem, before it was released people already decided that they hated the game and most couldn't enjoy it for what it was.

lol nice try with the tiny, blurry ass photo.

The difference is that the cast of characters are all dressed similarly because they are a part of the same royalty. It makes total sense within the game, even if they are dressed unusually.

They are also incredibly bland looking, and lack any sense of variety.

I am still super bitter about no character switching.

Given how simple the control scheme is and how much resources they wasted on non essential shit like movie, anime and fucking VR, this only tells me that Tabata didnot have his priorities right.

The variety in character switching could've saved the combat. Its even more essential than the airship tbh which will probably be an awkward gimmick when it comes to core gameplay.

I will always count this ommission against him.Its a major sin.

That might be true, but it is in context to the story and setting of the game. Which is why cherry picking this in comparison to the other games makes no sense.

It's also nice to have a change of pace. Sometimes the Final Fantasy games' character designs are all over the place...my biggest gripe is with Final Fantasy VII, even though I love that game. It's such a weird cast.

So the context is fine, but it wouldn't be hard to justify changing their clothing during the story. In fact, it may make more sense. The characters don't look that way because the story demands it, they look that way because the creators wanted them to.

It does suck that there's a lack of character switching...however, it's not just about budget, it's about time. Square Enix can easily pay another team to develop something entirely different, while there are only a set number of people that can work on the battle system. And because of this, it would prolong the development of the game by a lot. That is my feeling anyway.

Also, to put things into perspective, The Last Story had the ability to play as other characters throughout the game, but it always felt a little bit lopsided. The battle system is designed around Noctis' abilities, the same as how Last Story's system was designed around its main character and giving commands to your teammates. It's a shame, but they had to sacrifice some options for the sake of being able to finish the game in time.

Nah I think it's fine. Noctis is literally the OP character we've seen because he can use all the weapons and it makes sense as part of the game.

the game looks like a mess. you're being lenient if you don't think the characters and the world are polarizing and extremely jarring. i'm not a big fan of final fantasy but this looks like the least cohesive in terms of identity.

Never had a problem with their outfits or how they looked BUT one thing I think the team should've added in was maybe one or two more out fits you know just to give the road trip feeling more weight. Like how in the desert area we saw noct with his jacket off well maybe when they get to a colder area they put on warmer clothes.

The all black garb of the cast. There IS a plot / lore reason. Folks may not like it, but it is what it is.

Each game in the series has it's own plot specific nuances. People from Lucis wearing black is just a FFXV specific nuance.

https://forum.finalfantasyxv.com/discussion/496

There is a plot reason, sure, but I sincerely doubt it will be so ironclad that they quite simply couldn't have had them wearing different clothing for the majority of the game. I sincerely doubt the aesthetics of the game are determined based on the story and plot...

We will see, I suppose.

You could literally argue that about any game ever made.

Speak for yourself :P

How come chocobos don't fit XV's world? we are talking about a world that has Behemoth and a snake with a mask as a face as a normal wildlife in it

I like you Dark Castle, but you are nitpicking here

I think that we only ever see them in their city-boy clothes is what kills the believability factor.

People in this life can be seen wearing modern cloths and riding camels, horses and elephants either for fun, hobby or just tourism

nothing is unbelievable about that.

Yeah this would be cool. Hopefully there will be something like this, so at least you can change some of the clothing. Long sleeve, short sleeve, etc.

You apparently have the option to have a jacket or with out Jacket Noctis, I think I say it as an option during one of Tabata playthoughs at E3.

Yes. Absolutely. That is why no game should be let off the hook for having bland looking characters.

Now, that doesn't mean that you have to agree they look bland. You can think they totally look awesome. I can't argue against your subjective opinions. I am just saying that they don't look that way explicitly because of the story, they look that way because the creators thought they looked cool.

It was a choice. A choice that some people feel makes the cast of characters look very boring.

Sure, but it has importance to the story and setting. Many of the Final Fantasy games in the past have characters that look the way they do just because...but in Final Fantasy XV, their clothing choice is actually directly influenced by something specific to the place they are from.

The demo yes. The near finished game, not anyone yet, except for in-house Square-Enix testers.

We're almost the end of June. So that gives them almost all of July and August to wrap things up with polishing, meaning the game goes Gold the beginning of September were discs are pressed, documentation and adverts are printed for store signage, manufacturing, distribution and shipping to retail.

We are almost there, but not quite. Soon enough though.

I don't think it's cherry picking considering that all of these are FF casts. And each of them are colorful, filled with variety and personalities. Everything we've seen from the FFXV crew is incredibly one note and a bit soulless.

FFVII has 3 women, a black man, a wolf like creature and a vampire like man as playable characters. All incredibly colorful and unique. FFXV has a k-pop band. I know, my avater is a k-pop idol.

This incredible party of 4 black clad rich boys...isn't doing much for me. It's incredibly static and soulless. I'm still hoping one of them gets replaced by the end, by Lunafreya to add some spice, life and variety.

If SE wants me to keep that preorder...show me something. Some me variety. Tell me Lunafreya will get her DLC. Something. Show me a Red XIII. Show me some spice. Tell me this is more than a k-pop band adventure in emo land.

I mean, maybe that will be strong enough to justify the sameyness of the character designs. It feels like a weak excuse for me. However, I can't say for certain until I play the game.

That being said, when I was younger I would have loved how they look. I used to use a gameshark to make all the Final Fantasy 8 characters were their SEED uniforms. I get why some people would dig them.

Still, I think the cast's look has been divisive from the onset for a reason...

What's emo about..well any of them.

lol at 8/10 being a disappointing score
