What's worse: stuffy nose or runny nose?

Both are awful, but stuffy is worse.

You can "deal" with runny by using lots of tissue. Nothing you can do about a stuffy nose; and not being able to breathe totally sucks.

Stuffy for sure. Can't smell, your voice sucks. Unnacceptable. When I'm runny I just need tissues or whatever.

Stuffy. Just the thought of not being able to breath normally. Ugh. Runny nose, whatever. Wipe, wipe, wipe, wipe. Sniffle and snort like crazy and piss everyone around you off!

EDIT: I'm thankful everyday that I don't have any seasonal allergies. Excuse the brag.

Hmm.

Stuffy is mostly just uncomfortable.

Runny actually can hurt because it can cause a sore throat, which is super miserable.

I'm gonna say runny is the worst.

Funny you should ask... I've been fighting something the past few days, and I actually have both... both nostrils are totally uncooperative, I can't breath and yet they are also running... it's a double whammy!

Anyway, took some decongestant once I got home... I feel like... 25% better I guess... still sucks

Worst part is work was way busier than usual today by multiple factors. Fate was definitely NOT on my side. And to make it worse... co-worker called in so I had to stay 4 hours late... I don't know what omnipotent power decided that today was my turn to experience hell but hopefully my turn is over with for a while.

Definitely a stuffy nose. I hate not being able to breath well through my nose, and being forced to breath through my mouth. It makes sleeping a chore.

I can't stand a fully stuffed nose. I use those sprays to try to break it.

I almost can't function with a stuffy nose because I obsess about it.

I'm pretty used to stuffy noses, but not so used to runny, so I'll go with that.

I hate the feeling of my upper, wtv it's called, being slightly wet...

Stuffy nose. Having one nostril closed off completely and then trying to sleep, but never being able to because you're constantly trying to breathe through said nostril.

Seasonal allergies have caused many hours of lying awake in bed, making a half-sniffing, half-snorting sound every five seconds.

Stuffy nose makes me feel even more sick and you get tired from a lack of oxygen so yeah. I've had it all summer until recently due to grass allergies or something. Sucks.

runny, stuffy, whatever the case may be... I hate being in public when I have symptoms :( I feel terrible, especially if I don't have a choice in the matter. The worst part is when I have to use the train. I take great strain unto myself to keep composed and not act all gross next to the other passengers. For one I don't want to spread anything if I can avoid it, two I don't want them to think I'm being careless and spreading germs carelessly, three I think blowing your nose next when someone is in the seat next to you on the train is something that, if you CAN avoid it, do so, for their sake because it's courteous

Do you think I take this line of thinking too far? One of my mottos is "death before discourtesy" but clearly most other people couldn't give a rat's ass about courtesy

Runny for sure. You can function as a member of society with a stuffy nose, but once your nose is on faucet mode, you're basically a leper until you can get it under control with medication or something.

It's cool that you're thoughtful and are concerned about the well being of others, but everyone has their moments and part of courtesy is understanding that. What are your other mottos?

Stuffy nose by a landslide.

Getting a runny nose feels like paradise to me because its so much easier to deal with.

Stuffy nose is like death; just constantly trying to create some air flow and waking up in the middle of the night because you can't get proper sleep.

Block one nostril and blow till it hurts.

Also I have a problem with one of my nostrils so the stuffy nose is even worse. The medication don't do jack.

I agree with Loofy. Stuffy nose is *terrible* when you're trying to sleep, but a runny nose is downright awful in class... even worse if you're taking a test and have no tissue. It's just awkward and you're wondering who sees you and... ugh.

When my nose runs, I'm powerless to treat it. Just have to wait it out. When it's stuffed, a shot of decongestant nasal spray will clear it in minutes and keep it clear for hours.

All you had to do was add a brand and it would have been a brilliant commercial :P

I use the cheapest drugstore stuff - 0.1% W/V xylometazoline hydrochloride, with added moisturizers. Couple of sprays up each nostril, wait a few minutes, and I'm all clear; if a little dry. It's the only way I can preserve my sanity when hit by a cold.

Lol :P I really I don't have anything, so I have to live with a stuffy nose until morning.

Runny.

Sore throat + wiping your nose so much that the skin ends up red and sore.

With a stuffy nose you just have to get some methol sweets/candy and it'll clear up.

Don't understand how anyone can say stuffy. You can still breathe with your mouth and it'll go away on it's own soon enough or you can take one of those sprays that helps clear it up.

Runny you need a tissue at all times, everywhere. It's embarrassing in public and the runnyness never stops. Way more frustrating as there is no 'breath with your mouth' alternative to alleviate the issue.

Runny. I'll just mouth breath for a while with a stuffy nose. It's so awkward running around draining your nose.

I used to take a self-defense class a few years ago. The instructor was showing how to break out of a mouth-cover. An effective way somebody may try and cut off your breathing if your head is on the ground is to put their hand upside down from your chin to your nose. The fingers are on the chin, and the base of the palm is on the nose. He did this to me when I had a real stuffy nose. My body reacted and his palm was covered in snot in about two seconds. It was the most snot I've ever released. Like, it was probably enough to cover a piece of toast.

Try breathing with your mouth when sleeping. It fucking sucks waking up every 30 minutes because your mouth is dry and having to drink water.

Runny nose. There's nothing worse than being stuck at work or in class and hearing some asshole have to sniffle every 5 seconds.

runny nose is the worst. having to blow it so much and then your nose gets sore no matter how soft the tissue is. it's bullshit. stuffy nose is just a little annoying.
