What's your all-time favorite anime game?

Yeah, gotta be Astroboy. Didn't even need the license to be an amazing game.

Wow, really? I know it's been a lean gen for JRPG's, but we did get Xenoblade & Vesperia. Personally, nnk really lacks substance.

Played Xenoblade and loved it. Playing nnk and loving it. Why the warm reception? It can be a bit simplistic, but I love the fantasy in it!

The question is about anime-based games right? because if the "got an anime after" point is valid then my favorite anime game is Super Mario Bros.

This one so much.

Also if it counts

Super Dragon Ball Z - Likely as close as we'll ever get to a "Capcom-style" Dragon Ball fighting game (natch, since ARIKA and Craft & Meister are both made up of ex-Capcom talent), and a fun game in its own right. Too bad it didn't take off as much as it should have. One of the few times I wished that a DBZ game got an infinite amount of sequels...

Super DBZ is the best DBZ game period. Some other games from the franchise come close but they still can't touch the greatness this game provides.

Honorable Mention List

Gundam Wing Endless Duel/Battle Assault 2/SEED Destiny
Naruto GNT EX Special
DBZ Burst Limit/Hyper Dimension/Ultimate Budoten
Bleach Blade Battlers 2/Versus Crusade
Sailor Moon S/SuperS
Fist of the North Star (Arc System Works)
Yu Yu Hakusho MT/Forever/120%

Honestly, I think Treasure did an amazing job with making full use of the license on top of the amazing gameplay. The game is just an absolutely amazing tribute to Tezuka's creations. From minor cameos to optional boss fights or entire levels, the game filled with nods and the little history thing lets you know a lot about every character you encounter.

I assume OP means games based off anime and not just games with anime style, because that could be like a billion games.
My favourites would be Mai Hime: Unmei no Keitouju, Toradora Portable, the Super Robot Wars Series, and Gundam Musou series.

Technically more of a manga game than anime. But go figure that the only people who can create a good SSB clone is Nintendo themselves.

How playable is Famicom Jump? I watched Arino play it on GameCenter and I'd love to try it out.

You definitely need to know Japanese or have a guide of some sort. I played when I was 8 with a walk-through guide. It was so satisfied to interact with many characters from my fav anime and have them in my party. If you're not born in that era or don't have appreciation to those anime, I don't think you will have much fun with it.

That would be Tatsunoko vs Capcom.

It was so good, so much and still has a much better artstyle than Marvel vs Capcom 3.

Where's my sequel, Cacpcom?!

Based on an established anime license? The Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm games are fun.

Ace Attorney, as well, since there's a manga now.

Amazing game, I actually owned this game twice an sold it both times. If only I had known how rare it was going to be. The sequels are great too, too bad they never made it to the states. I hope by some miracle we get Red for 3DS.

Probably the Bleach DS game from Treasure. It's the first and only game I've ever imported. I haven't played too many anime games, tough.

Haven't gotten the chance to play those yet :P they're on my backlog list :) But Id agree a lot of tropey elements are at play in NnK but the sense of imagination, the beautifully rendered art style, and genuinely poignant but so to triumphant tale of fantasy was ultimately refreshing for this cynic's black soul.

Just to clarify, this topic is talking about games based on an anime?

Then yeah, I'd have to go with the Bleach DS games. Unbalanced as hell but still fun and somewhat reminiscent of Guardian Heroes.

There are some really good visual novels with anime adaptations but I can't think of any that began as an anime.

J...j-jj-jj-j-j.... JoJo, Kenshiro, Goku, Luffy in the same damn game!? Smash clone!? Is this DS version the best version of this game? Is it region locked, how impossible is trudging through the japanese text, and how money do I have to spend to get this now!?!

If we're talking licensed games then Jump Ultimate Stars hands-down. If any games with an anime art-style are fair game, the only thing on my shelf that's close is Zone of the Enders 2, so that.

I don't think there's a version besides the DS version??? but yes. It's not region locked (I'm playing it on my american 3DS RIGHT NOW), you can find an english guide online (i'll try to find one and post it here), and I think it cost me like 50 bucks when I got it several years ago. Make sure to get Jump Ultimate Stars, not Jump Super Stars.

There's only the DS version of JUS, original DS games are region free & GameFaqs is all you need to play through it.

This was my first experience with a non-english game which was on a ROM dump disk for the N64 Ddrive that was imported for my Uncle.

I never really got far but the girl character was extremely OP and could throw explosions that killed everything.

I heard there was a jump something smash clone for gamecube, ps2 or something, and I wondered if this was a port of that? Just not sure what the DS is capable of in speed and graphics.
But yeah, if this is even halfway decent, I could play the hell out of this.

Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3 for the Wii lol

Persona 3 (since it is a anime now) ;3.

Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 for the Wii was everything I ever wanted out of a DBZ game. It had literally every character that I could think of (ok there were just a few missed ones). I know that it had a lot of recycled abilities between characters and I recognized that, even as a kid. But, god damn was this game made for the fans.

My brother and I would just sit there and recreate battles from the series for hours. We knew the characters were wildly imbalanced and so we used the team battle system to create our own balancing (5 weak vs 1 OP). It was incredibly fun.

Tenkaichi 1, though was pure shit. Please never play that trash. If a 12 year old can tell it's a cash grab, then it's really bad.

Gungrave on PS2 was awesome arcadey fun back in the day. It also had some cool anime cut scenes.
It hasn't aged well but is still fun to pick up and blast gangsters in 360 gun movements and then knock them down with the giant coffin strapped to the characters back!

Jump Super/Ultimate Stars. Tons of content that treated the seemingly endless source material with respect. Probably the best Smash Bros.-like that I've played aside from the real thing, too.

Thinking about it .hack//G.U. even if others don't enjoy it I've always found the world they built in the anime and games to be interesting.

This. The gameplay systems and world they had in GU was great and it's a damn shame they ditched them for LINK.
