What's your favorite Final Fantasy Job?

FFXI was my first MMORPG and it solidified PLD as my favorite job. Subsequently, have loved Paladin in every MMO I've played that's offered it, too -- and I always spec to tank if it's an option. :)

I want to say Blue Mage but that job has only been good in Final Fantasy XI.

It was okay in VII, lol in VIII, Terrible character in IX, and lol in X.

Lol in VIII? WTF are you talking? Mini Missle, Degenerator, Ray Bomb, Homing Missle
IX has the be the best. Quina one of the most lovable in the series and not to mention she has some good shit like Matra Magic, Auto-Life, and Frog Drop.

The only problem with X is that it was tied to an Overdrive and most of the time when you used it is when the game gave you a test drive for learning a new, but Quistis and Quina are among the top of their classes. V and VI I don't remember much about.

Red Mage. I just identify with this job a lot: red outfit, classy hat, fencer, quick caster and jack-of-all-trades. It was a very good healer/support in FFXI too (it was my main job back in the days). I wish they would add it (or the Mystic Knight) to FFXIV.

As the avatar indicates, I'm a fan of Dragoon, but my favorite has to be Blue Mage. The concept of using your enemies' attacks against them has always been cool to me (see also: Mega Man).

Edit: It's also game-breakingly good in FF5, so that helps.

RDM because of they can use swords along with black and white magic.

Red Mage in Final Fantasy XI is the best version of the job due to the combat stats system and the amount sub jobs you can pair them with. In other games they were terribly gimped

It was crazy good in V. VI was okay, but Strago wasn't a spectacular character in most regards.

In FFXI, loved playing Paladin...nothing cooler than holding agro and tanking while other people womp away on a monster, and getting props after the battle.

Been a Dragoon since day 1 in FFXIV and will never change class.

Kain (4) ,Cid (7) and Freya (9) are three of my favourite characters in the entire series and are all absolute badass Dragoons
I totally agree on the second part. But for FFXIV it's White Mage all the way.

In concept and aesthetically, I like BLU. But actually playing it is kind of annoying.

In practice, I like MNK. FFXI MNK is wonderfully passive and relaxing. My favorite job/class in any MMORPG ever.

1. Red Mage because I like being able to dabble into anything, plus the hat.

2. Blue Mage because it basically came and ate Red Mage's lunch.

3. Samurai just because it's fun and you get to do some sweet attacks.

These are all based off of FFXI's universe, the one I spent the most time in.

Samurai all tha way, mostly for design.

Time Mage, Geomancer, Blue Mage are my favorites.

Time Mage because it's just a cool idea in general, Geomancer because it tends to be almost useless which makes me want to root for it, Blue Mage because using enemy skills against them is just too much fun.

Freelancers are awesome because of their malleability.

Also Squire, Ramza's version specifically. Yell and Scream my way to victory.

Dragoon, though I also like Samurai.

Just really like taking to the air. Even played a dragoon in FF XIV:RR, despite its being my first (and only) mmo, and despite my knowing DRG was broadly reviled. And I don't regret it for a second.

Blue Mage, hands down.
I want to say Blue Mage but that job has only been good in Final Fantasy XI.

It could carry you through Disc 1 and most of 2, though (in FF7, I mean). You're also forgetting FF5, which was the height of ridiculousness.

Tie between summoner, black mage and white mage. My favorite chars have always been in those categories.

Either nuke everything
Summon something to nuke everything
Or just heal everything and call it a night

Blue Mages always felt really exciting to me. It had me thinking about how I would approach my enemies and figuring out which ones to keep alive till I can learn their abilities. Sometimes I would have to use "control" to get them to use their spells. I also liked how the spells themselves lend themselves to more situation-based usage. It meant that I had to put some thought into which ones I would use depending on who I was up against.

Mighty Guard and FF VIII's Degenerator are two fantastic Blue Magics.

Holy knight of virtue, protector of faith, defender of the innocent, the unbreakable bulwark... PALADIN

The series needs more of them.

Paladin is hands down my favorite class in the series. Cecil's transformation into one takes him from being something of a liability to the party (sure, Darkness was great, but also you fight hordes of undead enemies at that stage in the game and the Dark Sword is worthless against them) to easily one of its most reliable members. Given the best defensive armor and the ability to wield Knight Swords, bows, a limited degree of white magic and the Cover technique, Cecil is a versatile, sturdy guy. The two types of cover (automatic and manual) also make it so that Cecil can shield most of the party from real damage.

Later on Paladins gain Holy Sword skills, negating the one 'shortcoming' they had compared to Dark Knights. Shoot, by the end of FFT you have three Paladin-types in your party and any one of them is a serious advantage to you on the field. Taking a class that can shrug off some of the worst hits, deal out massive amounts of damage just with their swords, and then giving them ranged, magical sword skills is how you wind up with people called Thunder God.

Paladin is still my favorite job in FF14. It kinda doesn't have the best damage dealing anymore, especially compared to Warrior, but it can still take hits, and the job's relatively simple toolset makes it a good one for being able to support others without having to make serious sacrifices.

Dancer is my other favorite job in the series. There's something really goofy and weird about using dance moves to damage and defeat enemies, and the moment Dancer becomes a thing in FFXIV I'm dropping all my other jobs and taking up the sash.

is a lot better

At representing jobs? lol, it's not even debatable.

Black Mage doesn't have all elements and kills Ifrit using fire, Summoner is a DOT job that doesn't even use real summons, Dark Knight is a tank.

The game can't even have jobs like BLU or RDM without butchering them due to the trinity system.

in Final Fantasy Tactics I really like the Summoner and Calculator. Time Mages are also pretty awesome. Actually I just like the non-red/white/black magic classes.
Yeah, it was pretty sweet being able to summon magic in large areas without damaging your team. I also don't remember the calculator except that he was hard to get and pretty op.

Samurai because I'm a fucking weeb.

But then like Ranger/Archer/Beastmaster (sometimes these are mixed). The primary bow using class of whichever respective iteration. Although I did main Bard in FFXIV I wouldn't include that among this category.

Then fencing types that use magic. Elementalist, lesser extent Red Mage, etc.

While my main in FFXIV is a white mage, I really love the concept of the dragoon, even though I NEVER play them in the offline games lol
Black mage is probably the most badass job.

This thread is showing how Final Fantasy XI made every job so good. The majority of the best iterations come from that game.

well, except Puppetmaster

Tying jobs to weapon equipped really was a disaster idea for a mechanic. They should have scrapped it in ARR and added a real job system, or better yet a job/subjob system so every class isn't just repeating the same tired rotations over and over.

I think that FFXIV needs a rehaul regarding the different roles and party composition.
First, they should add a "Support" role and finally transform the Bard and Machinist into this role, and expand their buff/debuff abilities. This would also open up a room for the Red Mage's return (and maybe even Blue Mage's).
I think they should make 5-men dungeons, allowing a 1 Tank, 1 Healer, 2 DPS and 1 Support composition. Dungeon queue for DPS/Support jobs would be shortened (well, that is the ideal scenario), and it would allow more new and challenging fights.
