What's your favorite soundtrack this gen?

Bioshock easy. The 'Welcome to Rapture' part with the violin gives me chills every time.

And I don't want to go for such an 'easy' pick, but I was playing campaign scoring last night on Halo 3 and my missus piped up and said 'I really love the music in this game'. I was suprised she paid that much attention, but was chuffed anyway.

Some of Uncharted's music was great, but some missed the mark for me. Flashes of excellence...

I am shocked that no one has mentioned Enchanted Arms. If there was one great thing about that game it was definitely the soundtrack.

By all that is holy in the world please let this be sarcasm. I can honestly say that Enchanted Arms holds the title as the only game with combat music so bad that I could not keep playing the game. Even now, over a year later, I can remember the monstrously melodramatic repetitive combat song.

ionno.
But soon it will probably be Valkyria Chronicles. (Sakimoto)
Oh, and MGS4 will be awesome for sure... Harry Gregson Williams rules.

Easily.
Every single song from SMG is amazing! :D

It crossed my mind, but then I couldn't remember any of the tunes so I guess it wasn't memorable enough.

I'll go with my top 3 soundtracks from this gen (Oh and I loved Bioshock's soundtrack just as much, but more for its atmosphere than its actual composition) and my top 3 songs from each of them.

Super Mario Galaxy

1. Gusty Garden Galaxy
2. Buoy Base Galaxy
3. Space Junk Galaxy

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
1. Hyrule Field
2. Midna's Desperate Hour
3. Lake Hylia

Special mention goes to the awesome remix of the Serenade of Water used for Queen Rutela.

No More Heroes
1. Main Theme
2. Bad Girl
3. Heavenly Star (if it counts)

That was actually going to be my 3rd choice but i just love the Heavenly Star music whenever you're in a store.

Great song though. Totally got the adrenaline pumping.

"Fuuuuck you little prick!" :lol

I love that game.

Favourite Tracks from Halo 3:

"Farthest Outpost" - The title fits completely, it begins with a sort of acknowledgment of the unknown, then winds down to music fit for "going to business".

"Gravemind" - Skip to 4:18, the classic Halo theme appears with some neat modifications.

"One Final Effort" - Another rendition of the classic Halo theme, albeit more exciting and complex.

"Follow Our Brothers" - One of my favourite Halo 1 themes (Brothers in Arms), and Marty improves it in so many ways.

"Never Forget" - Ah, Halo 2's Unforgotten, definitely one of the series' best pieces of music. Haunting and memorable.

"Greatest Journey" - The opening piece of music, gah, just great.

"This is Our Land" - Personal favourite, especially the second piece, just oozes epic.

"This is The Hour" - Probably the most epic piece in the game. Loud, climactic, <3

"Out of Shadow" - Slowly transitions into one of my favourite Halo 2 songs, the buildup is just excellent.

"Brutes" - Crammed full of excellent pieces, some classic Halo 1 songs are there as well (Perchance to Dream being my favourite in here).

Really? It's been awhile, I honestly can't even remember the combat music. I just mostly remember several of the tracks for certain areas being quite good. This is coming from someone who doesn't listen to game soundtracks when not playing the games themselves though.

The only other game that came to mind as a real stand out this gen is Mass Effect and thats been mentioned a dozen times.

Heh I ranted about SotC and God Hand and then read the title again...

No More Heroes is nice, tho too many remixes of the same song. Killer 7 and God Hand are better, but not relevant here. Metroid Prime 3 had many great songs too and the whole game was golden audio-wise.

off the top of my head:
Lost Odyssey
Mario Galaxy
Super Smash Bros Brawl
RS: Vegas 2
Bioshock
The Darkness
Mass Effect

everything i'd have mentioned has been mentioned , i think.

Interestingly, my favourite "Soundtrack" was using the Hystereo album "Corporate Crimewave" for Ridge 6 via custom soundtracks. It's obviously not the usual Namco tracks, but it fit the game even better than the Namco tracks for me.

... not really of much use to this thread, but thought i'd mention it. I now associate the album with Ridge.

I thought that was what made it great. Same goes for Brawl actually.
Other than those two, I think my picks have already been mentioned... Lost Odyssey (Clash on the Big Bridge reborn as An Enemy Appears = fuck yeah), Galaxy, Crisis Core.

1. Super Mario Galaxy
2. Super Smash Bros Brawl

Uncharted, Zelda TP and Metroid Prime 3 also nice just not in the same class
